In July 23 I purchased 4 new tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, ATS recommendation) along with the 4-wheel computer alignment for an Audi A5 Quatro. On the 11th of July the tyres were fitted at the local ATS and the 4-wheel alignment process was carried out at the same time. In October 2023 I returned to the Evesham branch for a MOT and to swap the tyres from the front axle to the rear and vice versa due to the fact the rear tyres had worn by 3 mm in just over 4000 miles whereas the fronts at the time had only worn by less than 1 mm. As I was happy with the handling of the car, I queried why such a high wear rate had occurred and was told “A5’s are hard-on tyres”. There was no offer or suggestion by ATS to check whether the tyre alignment was correct.
As part of the ongoing service of my vehicle it had been booked into Listers Audi (Stratford Upon Avon). They informed me that the rear tyres had worn down to 1.4mm or less and produced a video showing the tyre depth measurements (after a further 5000 miles from my previous visit to ATS making them illegal (no issues reported with the front tyres). In addition, the Audi technician checked the haldex system along with the rest of the vehicle and everything was reported to be operating correctly.
In February 24 ATS replaced the 4 worn Michelins (at my expense) with the same make and type as the Audi Quatro system requires the tyres to be within 2mm all round and again there was no offer or suggestion by ATS to check whether the tyre alignment was correct. I was not happy with the explanation provided by ATS why the excessive wear had occurred so after the tyre fitment the car was booked into Listers Audi in Stratford 3 days later.
In February 24 Audi found that the setting for camber, caster and toe on the front axle were within Audi specification (5 minutes of arc or less of the ATS setting) and the rear camber and caster were also in spec, also within 5 minutes of the ATS setting however the toe on the offside was set at 43 minutes (max Audi setting 15 minutes) and had worn 0.77mm across the face of the tyre from outside to inside edge and the near side set at 22 minutes which had worn 1.05mm across the face from outside to inside edge.
In court the ATS representative claimed that the tyres where only good for 8 to 15K miles, being set so far out was insignificant and the wear across the face was minor. Due to my inexperience in court matters the judge decided that the burden of proof was insufficient and dismissed the cast.
If statements like this are made in court, what chance do you have of getting any justice.

Fast and efficient service

The process for replacing a battery was prompt and well explained. The operative clearly both understood and knew the subject well.
