Signed Up for a Trial, Stuck with a Headache
I signed up for a free trial and forgot to cancel it, and now I’m having trouble deleting my account. So far, no one has helped me with the process. This doesn’t seem like a great marketing strategy—frustrated users trying to cancel their accounts and receiving no support at all.
Rubbish
Rubbish. The selection of books that are free is extremely poor. You need to pay top prices for anything worth listening to. And they make it incredibly awkward and difficult to cancel. Have used it a few times now for holidays but I'm done with it now - really, really poor. No wonder there are so many negative reviews.
Audible don't have booksmarts
Books that I paid for were removed from my library. I wasn't given any notice this was going to happen or that it had happened. My first attempt to resolve this was a failure. The second interaction resulted in a refund - except I was refunded with book credits, I wasn't asked if I would like a cash refund which I wanted. I'll never use Audible again and would advise anyone interested in Audiobooks to give Audible a miss.
Audible fraud or data breach
On 4th July I asked the CSR to put a complaint against Audible for fraudulently charging me for $14.95 on my credit card account. Initially I was told that all billing issues should go via Apple. This was incorrect and was later confirmed by a manager once I managed to get one. I am tired of being told they know how I feel. It is incredible that the UK organisation are incapable of raising this issue with the US marketplace. It has taken over three hours out of my day and it is still not resolved, I have now submitted a full complaint and raised this as a fraudulent activity. My card is cancelled and I now have additional inconvenience due to Audible. I will be continuing to raise this issue with Audible and Amazon management. UPDATE I have now cancelled my credit card, rejected the payment as fraudulent and raise again the issues with Audible.co.uk. Your marketplace holder in the US does not have authority to take this payment and if necessary I have screenshots of this. The confirmation from Apple on the 3rd July. A day before of the cancellation. Your own cancellation on the 30th June. Audible has been blocked by M&S credit card and Mastercard of taking any payments. I will now contact Amazon and I will not update my credit card details on their account until they acknowledge the fraud by one of their subsidiaries.
FURTHER UPDATE. I have now submitted an SAR against Audible UK because they have zero integrity or competence - they cannot be trusted. After hearing nothing from them since early July they trot out the same lies. They tell me they cannot communicate with the US, another marketplace. But the US is allowed to defraud me through the UK subsidiary. This is either a serious data breach or fraudulent activity. Audible you have 30 days from today to provide me with all data in my name including internal communications, phone calls or emails to me. If not received by the 22nd August 2025, I will hand this issue over to the Information Commissioners Office as a GDPR breach. By submitting a Subject Access Request against this awful organisation it commits them to provide all data including recorded calls and internal records involving my name or account information. Next stop rogue traders or Martin Lewis on the TV. UPDATE TO AUDIBLE’s REPLY - you are obviously unable to read this Audible! You have a Subject Access Request against your organisation. You have 30 days to respond. If not I will report you to the Information Commissioners Office for non compliance. No need for more emails from me! You’ve had my complaint from 4th July 2025. As of yesterday, the 20th July you have done nothing despite your empty promises. Now get on with it
FURTHER UPDATE
Good morning.
I served a subject access request against you via customer support and a phone call.
I have not received the information as requested so I will now contact the Information Commissioners Office for the breach of statutory obligations.
This is in response to failure of Audible.co.uk to investigate a fraudulent charge from my credit card account of $14.95. I had to cancel my credit card and claimed this unauthorised charge from Mastercard via M&S bank.
Please also note I had a recent notification from Audible to update my card details so you can continue to charge me.
Amazon, Audible UK and US will never be trusted by me again.
Please ensure you provide me with the required information, including copies of text, email and phone recordings soon so that I can continue with the action against Audible. Avoidance culture is unacceptable against UK GDPR regulations.
LATEST UPDATE
Hello Ian,
Thank you for contacting Audible.
After further review, we see this email address was enrolled in an Audible US (Audible.com) membership. A 30-day free trial was started on June 4, 2025. The title The Great Cholesterol Myth, Revised and Expanded was added to your library on the same date. Since the membership wasn't canceled prior to the trial ending, it rolled over to a paid membership.
We have canceled your Audible US membership. In addition to this email, you will receive an automated email with the subject “We’re sorry to see you go.”
We have issued a refund of $14.95 back to the same credit card. Depending on the bank, a refund can take about 7-10 business days to appear in your account. If the card has been canceled but the account is still active, the refund will still be issued to your account.
If you need more help, please let us know.
Sincerely,
THIS IS A RESULT
Use the Subject Access Request as a method to resolve any issues with Audible. I never got my date from them but it forced them into a result. Important points. Membership cancelled but I’m still able to access my books.

DO NOT SIGN FOR FREE TRIAL of Audible
DO NOT SIGN FOR FREE TRIAL of Audible.
I did, didn’t like it, and cancelled right away — which wasn’t easy. Still, I got charged €9.99. Super disappointed.
Total scam
IMpossible to UNsubscribe from AUDIBLE uk
Thanks for nothing Amazon - saw I'd been added to Audible Premium somehow through Amazon Prime (UK) this week & have been trying & failing miserably to cancel the subscription ever since - it would have been easier to run The Grand National on foot & win, than to cancel an "AUDIBLE SUBSCRIPTION" - I really hate how you've deliberately mentioned how easy it is to cancel ..UNTIL we TRY TO CANCEL & that's where things start feeling UNCOMFORTABLE about your website & app!!
It all feels too much LIKE A SCAM IMHO.
So, I eventually got the contact phone number for UK CUSTOMER SERVICE only to find I am Infact talking to someone in the USA (who's accent was painfully hard to understand - so, after many security checks we finally started the rigmarole of cancelling the subscription - you sent an email link for me to cancel & as I clicked on it, I got instantly cut off???
(WTF' I THOUGHT)
*AS FAR AS I CARE I HAVE NOW CANCELED THE SUBSCRIPTION THAT I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR & Amazon has lost alot of the trust I had in them, if this is the sort of nonsense we'll all be having to put up with in future?
You've wasted me a whole week of worry & I'm still not 100% positive that it has actually been cancelled or not, still...I'll NEVER USE AUDIBLE AGAIN, NEVER - you are scammers!
Palaver!!!
It's al very well having free whatever for however many months but it's not clear on website what you have until when and how much being charged. & obviously don't get me started on the whole "pause" "cancel" membership palaver!!!
Ripped offAs with so many audible customers I am…
As with so many audible customers I am dissatisfied with audible customer service. I’ve had several problems so I neede to talk to a human being. But was not given a correct phone number. I’ve been locked out of my account so can’t access account to cancel. The only thing I can do is cancel the automatic debit with my bank and dispute any charge audible attempts. I have fifty audible books I purchased to which I no longer have access. Feel as if I have been ripped off.
Well I thought it was just me …
Well I thought it was just me … but I see here that by far the majority are giving them one star! My experience is they take money out of your account and yet it appears when you log in that you are not a member! Don’t use this company/service you will be ripped off one way or another … look at other reviews for the multiple ways this is being done. Reflects badly on amazon who own this ‘service’ so I have started to use amazon less!
That advert what a load of crap for audible is terrible
That advert for audible is terrible. It doesn’t make me want to purchase anything
Terrible
Terrible, ordered and paid for a book. Half way through the book disappeared and now if I wish to read it, even though I had aid for the book, I have to upgrade membership to carry on reading it ?
I’m a daily listener - just wish the price was better.
I’ve seen all the negative reviews here and just wanted to add my experience. I enjoy using audible - use it everyday - and find it quite good. I wish they had a greater range of books which you can listen to for free as part of your membership. The section you get included is also hard to find on the app, maybe that’s just me. However, I find it quite pricey.
Sometimes I cancel my membership for a period when I’m having a break from using the app - it’s too expensive not to.
Unethical or simply incompetent? You decide…
I have had an audible membership off and on for several years and on 24 May they offered me a 3 month membership for £3.99 per month which I took advantage of. I received an email today (21 June) saying that my membership would renew in 3 days at £8.99 per month! So they clearly lied about the 3 month offer. I am fairly certain that enticing people to take up offers and then withdrawing them is an infringement of consumer law. At the very least, it is unethical. AVOID! There are better services out there.
Time to stop using Amazon
Cannot easily pause or cancel subscription via mobile app site
Have to think twice if I should stop buying from Amazon
It is not worth it absolutely
It is not worth it absolutely. Many books and useful info are on YouTube for free. And YouTube information is often much more valuable than Audible low rated books. Also, once you get paid subscription on Audible, it is impossible to unsubscribe: the mobile app doesn't provide such an option.
audible allows duplicate purchases of…
audible allows duplicate purchases of the same book by the same author, sometimes even with the same narrator. then refuses to refund if you dont notice within 14 days.
totally unfair as the purchasing of duplicate titles should be flagged by the system but isnt.
Changed to 1 star as their customer service was awful. there is no way of complaining other than to a chat person which is very copy/paste/trite responses and less than useful.
I was about to cancel Audible!
I was about to cancel Audible to cut down on my outlay. I had one credit left but purchased the wrong book by mistake. I was able to return it, get my credit back & chose the book I'd wanted. That is excellent service! For that reason alone, I am now keeping Audible.
A great range of books & the app is really easy to navigate. Being able to set a timer is brilliant. Problems can be addressed quickly. I feel now it's well worth the cost & I would miss it so much at bedime when I use it to relax.
Not worth the trouble
I cancelled after my free trial. I had downloaded a free audiobook which I was really enjoying but half an hour into it I got a message saying it was no longer available as a part of my membership which didn’t make sense. It would not let me continue this book which I’d already downloaded for free unless I’d pay more money. And my free trial hadn’t even ended! Why would they disallow me to continue with my audiobook in the middle of listening to it? After reading other people’s reviews I decided it wasn’t worth the trouble. I’d also hoped more audiobooks would be free and it’s very difficult to ask questions and make a complaint. Wouldn’t recommend.
Scammers
So, my audible account was set up on an old email and phone number associated with a job I am no longer in. The bottom line is, I can't cancel it.
I am stuck with an account I can't access, can't use, and keep paying for and am so sick of paying for it, it is money stolen in my book - I am so angry about it and they have been no help!
Not as bad as their parent company yet.
Amazon took over Audible and the customer service took a dive and as Amazon customer service declines so does Audible's. But despite this it is still far above what Amazon Customer Service delivers.
