Beesley & Fildes were established in 1820, and it has taken nearly two hundred years to turn the once small firm into the large enterprise that it is today. In the early 1800's it was common practice for a son to follow his fathers footsteps with regards to his chosen profession. This was not the case for 21 year old Robert Beesley. What made his decision even more unusual was that his ancestors were all professional beer tasters! Robert Beesley decided that a beer tasters life was not for him, and in the 1820's set himself up as a master painter, plumber, and glazier with a shop in Prescot. In 1841 Robert Beesley's son James joined him. After operating from the same premises for almost fifty years, James decided to move the business. The extra space allowed James to expand his range, and also began to sell to other tradesmen in the area. On his death in 1887, James passed the running of the business over to his sons, Joseph and William. After WWI William's son William-Joseph who was injured whilst in service, asked his brother-in-law, expert craftsman and grainer James Fildes to join him. The pair pooled their gratuity money to expand the business, and as a result the Beesley & Fildes name came into being. In 1947 William's sons, Jack and Bill joined Beesley & Fildes. Then in the 1980's Bill retired and Jack Beesley was in turn joined by his three sons, John, Paul & Gerard. In 1987, the family expanded the business by opening a new yard in Huyton, where a purpose built timber yard and mill were opened. New yards were acquired in Liverpool in 1995, Birkenhead in 1997 then Chester and Prestatyn in 1999. The year 2000 saw the opening of a new dedicated plumbers & tile merchants and a bathroom showroom in the Liverpool depot, which imports tiles directly from manufacturers in Spain and Italy. In 2001 HSS Agency Hire Shops were opened in the Huyton & Prestatyn branches. In 2003, a new roofing centre was built in Huyton, a new branch in Warrington was acquired. In 2004 the Prestatyn branch was sold also in 2004 Colin Myers Timber Ltd was purchased. In 2006 the extensive refurbishment of the Colin Myers Timber site was completed, a new roofing centre was added to the Warrington Depot and James Whitakers Garden Centre in Prescot was acquired. Back in the 1820's when the young Robert Beesley decided to give ale testing a miss and set up on his own, he could never have anticipated that the firm he founded, passed down from father to son through the generations would still be trading today

I have been using Beesley and Fildes…
I have been using Beesley and Fildes for many years and must say that my recent dealings with the websale customer service has been absolutely first class. No messing around, a lady called Faye has been extremely efficient, quick response to my enquiries, great products, good prices and I would highly recommend.
Above and beyond.
Big thanks to Faye in websales she was extremely helpful in making sure the branch I went to put the product needed aside as I was making a long journey for it.
Very reasonable price (cheapest I could find). Just a very pleasant experience - well done 👏
Would never use this firm again
In these troubled Covid-19 times it is…
In these troubled Covid-19 times it is understandable that companies sometimes can't offer the same selection and service as before. Taking that into account there is still no excuse for treating a customer as if he was an inconvenience.
I phoned the Warrington branch number and somebody who obviously didn't want to be there took my order for timber....not a major amount of stuff....just a DIY project. He asked for my mobile number and told me that he'd ring me back when he'd checked whether or not they had the timber I needed. He never phoned back. After unsuccessfully trying a few more merchants, I phoned Beesley & Fildes a few days later and went through the exact same process with a different man. He didn't phone me back either.
I know that there's a big demand for timber and perhaps a short supply but all it needed was a phone call to say why they couldn't fulfil my order.
I got everything I needed from a small family owned timberyard at much cheaper prices and with fantastic service.

Had a bit of a mix up but now it's been resolved .
I would like to thank the manager who called me up, he was totally professional and explained the problem , I would also hope the young lad I spoke to is was very genuine and likeable is ok .
Thanks Beesley
Excellent service
Excellent service, excellent product knowledge I recently bought a kitchen & bathroom from the Liverpool branch and the staff could be any more helpful
Delivered the wrong type of brick
Ordered 876 alrdige multi rustic bricks. Driver delivered the bricks on the agreed date. A month later they called to say that the bricks they've delivered aren't what I've ordered or as described on delivery note.
Some of the bricks got used in the build and would thus require replacing with the correct brick.
Raised a compliant but no response and have now had to get my credit card company involved.
Terrible service, would never buy again. I have found that there are cheaper more reliable builders merchants with far better standards of customer service.
Bathrooms and Kitchens
Very pleased to give Beesley and Fildes a 5 star rating. They have just supplied the bathrooms and now will win the kitchens contract. Good service, good choices, good quality and competitive pricing. I had to go through a search and quote cycle a number of times before I found them. There are clearly advantages using a well run merchant who can source from a range of producers. A breath of fresh air.
good communication, beware of product description on website
Brought double bullnose bricks. Overall service was great and the product was really nice. Communication with staff was also good. The website said the bricks were solid, even so I called to confirm this and the advisor told me they were actually not solid (despite what the website said) they were perforated. If I had placed the order and not called to confirm I would have been a very unhappy customer. However everything else ran absolutely smoothly.
More Delivery Drivers Needed!
Placed an order via the website for one bulk bag of decorative aggregate on a Tuesday. I received an email with an expected delivery date of the following Tuesday when the depot is only around 5 miles away from my house! I called to see if it could be brought forward and was told no. I've used other building suppliers before and they usually deliver either next day or the day after. I think Beesley and Fildes need to employ more drivers.
Rubbish, lazy service. Just poor experience.
I ordered and paid for a bag of golden gravel from your Birkenhead branch to be delivered on 12/9. On 11/9, I received a call to ask if delivery could be postponed because you were short a driver. Because I'm a nice person, and I had the time and help available the following weekend to put the gravel down I said yes that was fine. On 19/9 - the agreed delivery date - as I had heard nothing, I called a couple of times. The phone just rang and rang. So I went to the branch, the chap I spoke to, to be honest, was polite but couldn't really be bothered - he was eating a sandwich to be fair - and after looking on the computer he told me it was out for delivery. I asked him why the phone couldn't be answered and he said that there were only two of them in. I guess it is difficult to do two things at once. It's now 2.15 and of course nothing has been delivered. I work away in the week, my time is very precious and you have let me down. I am very disappointed.
Incredible service and attention
Placed order - got it wrong - received phone call and they put it right for me - fantastic

Building materials for DIY project
Purchased a number of items recently from B&F and it was a pleasure doing business. I phoned in to discuss my requests and the two people I spoke to, one regarding building materials and other timber requirements were very methodical and discussion on costs was instant with no messing about. A pleasure to do business with and since I have actually visited a branch to order other materials as my build progressed. Very professional, knowledgeable and sincere.
My timber order was short 2x4.8 4"x4" and a quick phone call and the material was with me within the hour, on a Saturday (I never expected that level of service - outstanding). Highly recommend. Experience from initial phone call to delivery was amazing.
