Very good service in the store. Everything explained clearly.

The delivery was on time. The delivery men were polite and helpful. They took the 2 boxes upstairs for me. Good service.
On the outside of both boxes it says
“Box A + Box B = a set”
The boxes are clearly labelled
“Box 1”and “Box 2”
No mention of Box A or Box B anywhere.

Extremely disappointing service – guarantee feels meaningless when you need it

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Bensons for Beds and would urge anyone considering purchasing a mattress from them to think carefully about the after-sales support they may receive if something goes wrong.

I purchased a mattress from Bensons for Beds in March 2022. Over time, it developed significant dipping and lost its support, to the point that I was experiencing problems with my back and ultimately felt I had no choice but to purchase a replacement mattress at a cost of £900.

I raised a claim and arranged for an inspection. The technician’s own report recorded that the mattress “doesn’t offer any support and just sinks” and, most significantly, stated that the mattress was dipping and was “not within the manufacturer’s specifications”.

Despite these findings, Bensons has repeatedly refused to offer a remedy, relying on small marks on the edge of the mattress to invalidate the guarantee. The marks are away from the areas where the dipping is occurring, and the technician did not explain during the inspection that these marks could invalidate my claim. No attempt had been made to clean them or establish whether they could be removed.

What I find particularly frustrating is that Bensons has focused on the presence of these marks rather than properly addressing the actual problem with the mattress. Its subsequent responses have also failed to satisfactorily reconcile the technician’s written findings with its assertion that the mattress does not qualify for a claim.

I understand that guarantees have terms and conditions. However, when a mattress is reported to be dipping and not providing adequate support, I would expect the retailer to investigate the fault fairly and transparently, rather than relying on an exclusion to avoid addressing the technical findings.

The experience has left me questioning how meaningful the guarantee is in practice. From my perspective, it feels as though the guarantee offers little reassurance when a genuine problem arises.

I have spent considerable time trying to resolve this matter, received repeated refusals, and incurred a further £900 expense replacing the mattress. I am now pursuing the complaint through the appropriate independent dispute resolution process.

I would not expect a customer to have to go to these lengths simply to get a retailer to properly address a reported product fault.

This has been a deeply disappointing experience, and based on how my complaint has been handled, I would struggle to recommend Bensons for Beds.

Bensons for Beds means a good nights rest.
The staff in the York store explained everything to us and the purchasing system was easy to use.
We received lots of messages informing us about the progress of our order.
The delivery team rang 40 minutes before their arrival. They asked about taking their footwear off before entereing the house.
They installed the bed in the room of our choice and took away all the packaging.

We went to look for a new mattress.
Left alone for about 5 minutes, then a gentleman came over, introduced himself and said any questions I'm happy to help.
Sorry I forgot his name.
Anyway we tested a few mattresses out then seemed the gentleman for advice.
He was such a jolly friendly helpful guy. Very likeable indeed.
Very professional with plenty of knowledge about the different types
I wish I could remember his name to give him the praise he deserves.

We had very helpful and knowledgeable sales assistant who explained the differences between various bases and mattresses so it made our job of finding the right bed much easier! He was very helpful!!!
