Swimbies with Better
My son has recently started swimming lessons with Better Leisure Centre! And it’s much more affordable then Water Babies, where I used to take him.(by 5X!!!!)
The swim coach is great! Really hands on and informative yet makes the lessons fun, just as good teaching. He's enjoying it, and doing well. The group is a decent size, 7-8 parents. And the water is often relatively warm.

poor customer service
Really poor customer service from the attendant at the front desk at Clissold Park leisure centre. Possibly the most reluctant example of service I’ve experienced. I felt I literally had to coerce any service from her. On reflection once we got home we decided to use a different gym altogether if that’s representative of how poor the service would be. If management cared they should consider reviewing how their staff treat customers/potential customers..

Swim lesson
Quincy is 4, so this is his mum! He absolutely LOVED his very first swimming lesson at Clissold Leisure Centre and can’t wait to have his next one! Total success he smiled from ear to ear the whole way through!

I have been coming here for a while…
I have been coming here for a while now. The gym is fantastic and I enjoy the new HiiT classes. I think maybe you could do with a new body conditioning teacher on a Tuesday as I really miss the old Michelle. ( I find the new one very hard to follow)
The Dance Michelle is fabulous, as is Myriam and Roni.
My children’s swim teacher Tilden? Is absolutely fantastic and has the patience of a saint.
But the space in the changing cubicles is tiny and I have to leave the door open so I can change my children. The floors are often filthy too. I wish you could redesign that area as it’s probably the worst part of the sports centre.
The changing rooms outside HiiT are pretty filthy too especially when someone has just had a shower and left hair and dirt everywhere. Maybe the showers should have just been left downstairs.
All the staff are lovely and it’s a lovely place to come and keep fit.
Also I wish you would put water downstairs in the gym hall too!

Great Teachers!
The classes are the best thing about the centre because the teachers are so good. Particular shout out for Viktoria's Zumba and Powerpump classes which are world class. I wish we had more of Viktoria's classes at Clissold; she is such an inspiring teacher, and really pushes us to achieve our potential.
Kefilwe on the Better helpline was also tremendously helpful with a complicated membership problem I had, and managed to resolve it for me quickly over the phone.

Cold pool and cold showers - lesson cut short.
Booked baby swimming lessons. The pool has been very cold and our last lesson was cut short as the babies were getting upset due to the temperature (and parents!). The showers were also cold. The teacher was distracted due to a school group needing our space in the pool. We were only in the pool <20mins. Tempted to cancel future lessons if these issues continue - not a fun experience trying to wrestle a cold, wet baby into a wetsuit for only half a lesson!

My enquiry wasn't solved. In my email to customer service Clissold Leisure Centre, I explain the issue. I was told the technical team is looking into the problem. I was told that I cancelled my membership. Well, I did not. No one get back to me at the end despite of me writing emails to customer service.

Overall I am satisfied with my experience of Better, particularly considering the price point and facilities available at Clissold.
However, there are a few things I would like to feedback. The changing rooms for the pool are a bit tired and dirty, and the pool itself often has clumps of hair / plasters / other litter or detritus floating at the bottom. I think the pool staff could be a bit more proactive in fetching items out of the pool to remedy this.
I have attended a spin class and a HIIIT class. I found the HIIIT class to be quite disappointing, the instructor started late and ended the class early (which was only 30 mins) and the routine was very uninspiring. She also read the routine off her phone, and kept forgetting what the next step was.
The spin class was similar - there was very little interaction from the instructor, or timings to indicate how far through / far left in the ride we had to go. This mean the class was pretty uninspiring. Also, the movements and choreography also were not timed to the beat of the music. It seemed a little out of touch from how spinning is taught properly in studios across London. Perhaps Better could invest in training instructors on this model, particularly as the Spin Studio at Clissold is new and to my understanding, underused.

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of everything.
The changing rooms are clean and you have cubicles for privacy.
The pools are amazing. I am not a sports person and I loved it. Will definitely go again and often.
The only thing I would change would be to have hooks in the cubicles to hang clothes.

Our second swimming lesson was…
Our second swimming lesson was cancelled after the kids had already arrived and were waiting by the pool for their instructors . We were all ushered out explaining that there were no instructors for the day. No prior warning or emails were sent. Definitely no apologies for wasting our time and upsetting the kids.

Ok but BETTER could do better
It's ok in general but the level of cleanliness is lacking, not due to the staff but due to the size of the building, it needs more cleaners and at the moment the swimming pool is just about warm enough to get into without feeling freezing but it can be really cold.

Should be called WORSE
CLISSOLD LEISURE CENTRE
This company is completely disorganised and has terrible customer service. Joining was a nightmare. To start,
they did not process the referral to Healthwise from my GP. When I eventually got an assessment, they seemed more interested in taking my bank details and filling in a form then assessing me. They gave me information about fees, booking etc which turned out to be incorrect and told me to look at the app for suitable activities. Then I was given the wrong type of membership so could not book the class I wanted. I tried phoning but nobody ever answered so I left a voicemail and sent an email but got no response to either.
The only reason I gave any stars at all is because when I eventually made it to a class, after almost 6 months of hassle, the trainer, George, was very good.
