My experience of Better gym.
I used to be a member of Better Finchley Lido for many years but stopped using the facilities after covid.
I have now rejoined and attended a number of classes.
My frustrations are
Classes are so difficult to book as not many spaces are available. Iam constantly looking at my messages on my Mobile for cancellations so that I can book some classes.
Maybe a better system needs to be adopted.
The air conditioning in the studio only works in one half of the studio. (Ongoing issue for years)
No one seems to know when it will be fixed.
In this hot weather it is not ideal to be using he studio without air conditioning.

Affordable prices
Affordable prices, easy process , helpful staff. The only reason I didn't put 5 stars is because some children /parents are using changing rooms as their own private changing rooms leaving their stuff there and heading to swimming pool instead of using lockers . We struggled to find an empty changing room to get changed . Most of them were empty but with someone's personal belongings all over the place . I saw many frustrated parents trying to find where to get changed . I asked my son to go inside regardless of someone's personal belongings inside otherwise we wouldn't be able to get changed . Apart from that , very straight forward process and easy to navigate even for a first time client .

Clear focus on technique
We just had our first lesson, and was so much more than I had expected. We had been at at a small pool near my son's school in Finchley N3. He had been there a while and his development had just plateaued. It was great to see that there was an assessment of my son's swimming capability on before he was assigned to the right level. There was a clear focus on technique throughout the class, and for the first time in a long time, my son came out feeling happy and exhausted!

They increase my membership by £10
They increase my membership by £10. The gym machine are also rundown and it did not maintain well. The lady in the reception is so moody she could do with a smile and by the way she’s quite rude too

Cleanliness should be better
I have been bringing my son to your swimming course for a long time and I come to swim myself from time to time. In fact, I recently became a member and intend to come more regularly. However, both I and my other friends who come to your facility think that you have a major hygiene problem. More attention should be paid to this issue.

I came to finchley lido swimming pool…
I came to finchley lido swimming pool with my two children and their friend today. My son who is 8 and a better swimmer than there friend swam the length so he is able to go in the pool on his own. We have been loads of times and he always gets a armband. He has just been moved up to bronze hat in his swimming lessons but because he did doggy paddle for a really short time (he mainly did front crawl as I was watching) the lifeguard refused to give him an armband. He tried again but because he was crying so much he couldn't do it and after another try he wouldn't let him do it again. My son is distraught. This has never happened before. I feel it was really unfair as I was told as long as they swim the length it is okay. Really disappointed and we had to leave. We will never come here again and I'm thinking of cancelling their swimming lessons even though they are at a different pool.

We are sorry to hear of your recent experience at Finchley Lido.
Whilst we do understand your frustration, our customers safety is paramount and the lifeguards can only judge on how the customer swims on that day.
The customer will need to swim to one end of the pool and back to demonstrate they can get back to their original starting position safely. If a customer is unable to complete this satisfactorily, the customer will be asked to stay in the shallow end or move to a more suitable pool for their skill-set.
We hope this does not lead to you cancelling as it sounds like your son is doing well in his lessons and we hope he continues to improve!
