I am an over 60 member at Swiss Cottage leisure centre. I have been coming here for over 10 years.
The centre is great and the service here is exceptional specially the reception staff are very helpful.
The centre is clean and the atmosphere is great.

I find very disappointing that once you go inside the gym you can’t come back again just every 4 hours
I’m smoking and I went out once than shocked me that I’m not able to open the door with my membership

I don’t know how they passed their hygiene for the steam and sauna is beyond me Trust me, if you have breathing problems, please do not go to the steam a sauna so at each end there is changing rooms, male and female as you enter the steam and sauna. It smells like urine men’s urine when I walked in there it was the most horrendous smell When I spoke to a member of the staff they even said yes it does smell like the men’s bathroom, but when I was leaving, I spoke to the receptionist and tried to make a story up which is bizarre The receptionist tried to tell me It was to do with the sauna and that it has been like that for years If it’s been like that for years, they need to close it down and refurbish it because breathing in that smell that smells like men’s urine Is very unhygienic to the point I had a headache and felt sick and I even spoke to a few of the male member and he even said that the men change your room smelt like urine Even speaking to females that went in the steam and sauna also stated it smelt like Urine I have never been to a bad Jim where the snow is so vile that it made me sick and have a headache is very appalling that where your gym is based the location that you’re allowing this to happen and I have been To a lot of the better gyms and never experience that

Women swimming change rooms were closed because of maintenance, it’s a week ! Also my friend had some problem with he online booking unfortunately the customer service at Swiss cottagw was useless and without any knowledge.

Paint flakes have been dropping to the…
Paint flakes have been dropping to the bottom of the adult pool since as long as I can remember. They are never hoovered up. This week, finally, Better installed a pontoon on the pool and built a tower. However, they did not fix the ceiling - they installed a sensor! The anger and disappointment among the regulars at the pool today was palpable. When will Better fix the ceiling and hoover the debri from the bottom of the pool? They possibly comprise a health risk.
Update: the paint flakes were removed overnight from the bottom of the pool. Much appreciated. Please do this regularly as the ceiling paint is continually falling into the pool. Thank you.
Update: paint flakes once more on the bottom of the pool. Better: please repair the ceiling ASAP - you have shown that you can erect a scaffolding on the pool. Failing that, please hoover building debri off the floor of the pool on a regular basis. It is concerning to see a pool full of children with paint debri on the bottom of the pool.
Update 1 Feb 2025: there are paint flakes from the ceiling at the bottom of the pool. The pool is full of children and a pregnant woman. The paint from the ceiling may be from the 1980s and looks water-based, so it is not unreasonable to suppose that the swimming pool water is a very dilute solution of components of paint. It is unclear to me why Better continues to take health risks with its customers. It has shown it is able to erect a tall scaffolding tower, as it recently installed a sensor on the ceiling of the swimming pool. Why is it not possible to erect a tower to strip and repaint the ceiling above the swimming pool - or even install a fine net to catch the falling building materials?

Possible health hazard

The paint on the ceiling of the main pool and children’s pool has been flaking into the pool for months and, for months, there have been flakes of paint all over the bottom of the pool. This is a possible health hazard, particularly if the paint is water-soluble (unknown). While it may not be in the operator’s control to fix the ceiling, it can and must as a matter of urgency clear the debri from the bottom of the pool EVERY DAY.
Update 21 August 2025: the situation is now very much better. While the ceiling is still peeling, there is seldom debri at the bottom of the pool. Bravo.

I LOVE Swiss Cottage sports centre
I LOVE Swiss Cottage sports centre!
The pool is fabulous - especially as the two slow lanes are kept extra wide for nervous swimmers.
I love the cafe which serves good salads.
I love the atmosphere of the place which is vibrant with people of all ages and for the children there’s the new jungle gym.
And I love the fact you have to swipe in at the front desk and actually say hello to someone. The staff are really helpful and look happy to work there.
I now look forward to coming to swim and work out, and to catching up on work with a cup of tea in the cafe afterwards.
This is a seriously good community space! And it’s connected to the library (Swiss Cottage library is to die for if you’re a reader!); and there’s plenty of bike rack space.
Thank you ! Seriously well thought out space, really well run.
