Great swimming lessons for kids
Great swimming lessons for kids, however they are not very helpful when wanting to temporarily change times and days. My partner is having surgery so she is unable to bring the kids to their usual 4.30 slot for 3-4 weeks (Recovery time), I work till 5pm so needed to change times, only option was another day at 6.30pm, which is fine, however I won't be able to change them back unless there are spaces on their original day and time. I find this absurd that they can't be empathetic towards someone who needs surgery and make a temporary change.

We are able to make changes for a minimum of a month but we cannot reserve/save the space in another lesson - as this means no other customer can book onto either class. So technically if you have 2 children, instead of them just taking up one space each they would be taking up two spaces each.
Our swim school is very popular and we want to ensure that all our customers can access the classes so whilst we understand your frustration, no customer is able to reserve more than one space unless they have an additional membership.
We hope your partners surgery is a success!

No substance to swimming course.
Swimming lessons for my oldest for 8 months, they did the same thing every lesson, I never saw anybody progress to the next group (the only children I saw move were new starters who already knew how to swim without armbands but were automatically put into the beginner group) and he was still in 3 armbands, occasionally the teachers would take one from him, but then ultimately give them back. He has ADHD and the lack of challenge meant he was becoming bored and starting to mess about during lessons when we decided to stop them. Initial boost to his water confidence without needing us there was great, but in reality after 8 months I'd really expect to see some kind of progress towards independent swimming. I also felt very uncomfortable that the children weren't really taught floating or other basic water safety. There was a 'water safety week' but they just all swam back and forth as one big group, my son didn't know what they were trying to teach. It just feels identical to the 'martial arts' groups that don't really teach anything of substance and just want you to keep coming back so they continue getting money.

Disappointing return to the gym
Poor return to the gym. No equipment cleaning kit and no staff to ask in the gym. Found someone from staff who said that there was no kit on site. Some was on order and should be here soon. Hopefully my next visit will give me more confidence regarding gym equipment hygiene and infection cross contamination measures.

Membership explained very well. The facilities are excellent. Spotlessly clean and there is a variety of classes as well as gym or swim. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Gym induction training was booked and then cancelled by Better via email which wasn’t a good start to my membership. Disappointing that no discount given to members who wish to book badminton sessions

As a member you do get a discounted rate on Badminton when you book. For non-members, the price for a 60-minute session is £16.80 and the same session for a member is £11.75.

Expensive Garbage! AVOID!
Been going here for the last 5 years, have seen increase in prices yet the gym faculties remain poor, if not deteriorated over the years. the apparent misuse of the increased fees is very frustrating.
Instead of allocating resources to improve the existing the equipment & gym spaces, you have opted to invest in unnecessary amenities like a malfunctioning turnstile entrance and a children's play area. These additions do not benefit anyone !
I will no longer be a member of this gym, it’s a shame because I used to like it, now it’s just expensive garbage!

We are very sorry to hear that you are cancelling your membership due to the Annual price review.
The price increase is an annual occurrence that reflects economic inflation. As a charitable social enterprise, any money we make goes back into the business. This can be in the form of training our staff, improving our centres and services and supporting athletes through our GLL Sports Foundation. Most recently we have launched the warm spaces initiative where we provide a warm space for members of the public to have a safe area where they can get out of the cold, grab a cup of coffee and socialise.
Further to this we have to look at the long term viability of the centre. With increasing utility and other operational costs we have had to make the decision to increase all membership fees by a minimal amount, to ensure the survival of the centre and that we are able to support the community for years to come.
As a staff-owned charitable social enterprise, GLL’s mission is to ‘give back’ and improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of local communities right across the UK. Any money we make goes back into the business.
We offer discounted memberships for seniors, those on benefits, students, key workers and customers who are registered disabled. As well as GP referral memberships. Moved by the plight of the refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine, we set up a scheme offering all refugees in England and Wales free membership to leisure centres, gyms and pools for a six-month period. To date, we have set-up more than 5,000 memberships. This continues to be available to anyone granted refugee resettlement status in the last twelve months.
We are very sorry to lose you as a valued member but would love to welcome you back in the future if you change your mind.
