I arranged a catflap for my elderly…

I arranged a catflap for my elderly mother in her French doors and I have to say we were so impressed from start to finish. It looks fantastic!
Clear communication, nice and simple to deal with, they arrived when they said they would, and honestly did a first class job!
Their pricing is also very competitive. I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone who is looking for this kind of service.

Great job for first time cat mum

We’ve never had a cat and all of a sudden have a senior fur baby, from the moment I contacted BlueStar, the communication was clear and made everything very straightforward. The fitting was arranged within 8 days and a time slot given. Nathan and his partner let me know 45mins before they’d arrive and pulled in where I’d suggested right on time. When I told him we’d never had a cat before, he set the flap up for us to work with the microchip, demonstrated how it worked and the different settings. The fitting was quick, no fuss and they swept up after. Nathan even took a look at the door for us and recommended something for our windows. Payment was easy through BACS with the given bank details and exactly what I expected for a cat flap as I researched it. Great experience from start to finish, would definitely recommend and use this firm again.

Poor communication between office and…

Poor communication between office and engineer. Delayed fitting due to several reasons. Arrived late for fitting and demanded money to be paid whilst they were there, no invoice given, only a scrap paper of bank details. Once payment provided, communication cut off.

I’m ever so sorry that you feel the need for a two star review because we got stuck in traffic and arrived late for your appointment which we did call and explain and you were happy with this at the time. We came out of our way to still get you done quite late. Our office was closed later so they couldn’t contact you.

As you can see from our other reviews our before and after sales communication is excellent. I’m not sure what you mean by cut off as we have had zero communication from yourself regarding any issues. If you have a problem you can contact us anytime and we would be happy to discuss abd resolve any issues that you may have.

Regarding payment it’s our company policy not to leave without payment. This is purely down to it being a full time job to chase people for money owed so our policy is to have none owed. I really don’t see anything wrong with this as you wouldn’t go to Asda and take food without paying would you, nor go to a petrol station and take fuel without paying. I’m not sure why you feel compelled to complain about us asking for payment when we have completed a job in your home, it was also you who gave us ‘the scrap of paper” to write this information on to. As previously stated our office was closed for your invoice to be sent over. Invoices saying paid in full would automatically be sent out the day after when the office was open. This is the first time someone has complained regarding paying us for a job that we have actually completed, again I’m sorry that you feel this way but I do feel that this is quite an unfair review but everyone is more than entitled to their own opinions and that’s what trustpilot is designed for…. fair and honest reviews!

Cat Flap

We had a cat flap fitted by Blue Star. Excellent service - measured and fitted within 10days - they even went the extra mile to straighten the pane of in glass our other patio door. Good communication, friendly service and good value. Thank you!

Dog flap

A couple of years ago we had a dog flap fitted in our patio door by Nathan. It has been just what we’ve needed for our two labradors!
For some reason or another, the window had slipped and the beading has got trapped with the window. Nathan and Luke came out to fix it and has made it as good as new again for us!
Whenever I’ve needed anything throughout, they have responded very quickly and acted quickly too. I can’t recommend Blue Star Developments and Nathan enough!!

Needed a dog flap fitting urgently

Needed a dog flap fitting urgently, they were able fit us in within a couple of days of contacting them. We were unable to find anyone in the north wales area, very thankful they travelled for this job. Once the dog flap was fitted we needed a minor adjustment, after informing them they were back with us within a day. Sophie in the office was brilliant, always quick to reply and answer any queries we had. Great service from the whole team, would highly recommend!

Velux window servicing

Had my velux window serviced and resealed due to a leak. Quick, clean job - window is as good as new.

I'd been quoted by another roofer who insisted replacing the whole thing was the way to go but was assured this was not needed. Nathan is very knowledgeable on best practices for Velux windows and offered some great advice on maintenance and what to consider if upgrading to motorised or replacing.

Untrustworthy

Nathan will turn up & tell you everything that's wrong with your roof & windows but he is the person who can fix it all, you will then be ripped off. The repairs carried out on my windows were condemned by Velux technical department & Blue Star gave a partial refund. If this review is disputed, Velux have the evidence. One word of caution, Velux will only rectify defective work carried out by an approved installer if its a new installation, you will not be covered for repairs

Update to correct Blue Star Developments inaccurate response

After completion of the so called 'full service' ? & payment had been made I took a more detailed inspection of the works & found that clear mastic had been used around the windows & one of the metal flashings had been forced up to apply 'blobs' of mastic to the screw heads so I contacted Nathan with my concerns' he stated that 'all the flashings had been removed & new seals applied'.

I left it a couple of weeks & contacted Nathan again & asked him straight - 'have you installed new seals around all the windows' to which he confirmed 'yes'. I also told him that all the missing screws he said he had replaced were not missing as I had found them on the roof & in the gutter when he had obviously dropped them

He said look, the works are guaranteed for one year so if there is a problem I will come back & fix it, so when the windows started leaking I got him back

I pointed to where the the water was coming in, to which he responded 'impossible' so I slowly poured a 1 litre jug of water onto the glass which ran down onto the bottom seal & in came the water, not just a drop but a continuous trickle, so there we have it - not all the seals had been replaced despite being told twice that they had.

At this point he blustered that he need to order some parts, his office would contact me to arrange for him to return & then he could not get out of the house quick enough

This was Oct '22 & I have never had any contact from Nathan or his office since so this is why I contacted Velux direct

Couple of other points

He mentions using bigger screws because the wood is rotten, there is no rot, he just has the torque set too high on his drill so its stripping the thread

With regard to his 27 years experience, well I also have some experience. I'm a City & Guild qualified joiner, I have a OND & HNC in construction & I'm a member of the Chartered Institute of Build with 40 years experience in the construction industry

Thank you for your review, albeit not factually correct nor the full truth.

Just to give people an idea of what this review is regarding and what it entails:
This window had been left unserviced and untouched for 16 years. When we attended site, we advised all the issues wrong with the window, just as we would with any other customer, and how to rectify these issues. We agreed a plan and price to move forward with this, carried out the work and the work was completed successfully. The window was leaking quite heavily before we commenced our work, the window did not leak at all once we had completed our work. However, a week after, the customer called to say he was not happy with the work but could not tell us the reason(s) why. The customer had been pouring water down his window to check it wouldn’t leak, it did not leak and i asked the customer what he would like us to do as the work was already under warranty anyway. The customer replied “I do not know”, I then asked why he had rang and his reply was the same again …
6 months later, the customer called again to say that the window was leaking, as under our guarantee of work, which we provide to all customers, we returned to site. To watch, in sheer disbelief, a man pouring 12 litres of water down his window to see one little drop come through the bottom of the window. At this point I asked the customer if he had been doing this for the last 6 months. His response was “Well erm”.
We agreed to rectify the leak, but the customer went directly to Velux and showed them pictures of our work, with zero explanation of what we had advised him when we originally carried it out. As previously stated the windows had not been touched for a period of 16 years, without a great fitting from the original installer, with screws missing from the window and frame. So the evidence he has provided to Velux is that we have used the wrong sized screws. Velux only do screws of 3.5mm/60mm which wouldn’t grip a hold of this customers window because it was completely rotten underneath. This meant we had to use a 5mm/80mm screw, as this was the only thing that would get a grip through the rotten wood, this was explained to the customer at the time, however not to Velux in the complaint.
Therefore, the ‘evidence’ is not factually correct, because Velux does not provide screws of this size to grip a window that has been left for 16 years. Velux were happy with my explanation for my reasons to have used these. I have 27 years experience and we are recommended repair and installation specialists through velux themselves.

We offered to rectify the work, even though the customer had voided his warranty by unnaturally pouring water down his window for months on end. He refused, stating he wanted a full refund and also wanted a refund on two services that we provided to him free of charge. We offered a partial refund as a gesture of good will on our part.

As you can see, from our many other reviews, we carry out exceptional work and go above and beyond for our customers. All our work is guaranteed and if for any reason there was an issue we would always go back. The only untrustworthy thing here is the review left by this customer and his omitting of facts to velux.

Responding to update. Last time I will actually bother..

Yet more dishonesty. Everyone else must be wrong and this customer right. Please just call Sam in our office who witnessed the multiple water trips, even to this day comments are made about this event as it was so bizarre. I don’t tell lies unlike some people. With all the vast knowledge in joinery and construction why on earth did the windows get left in such a state of disrepair in the first place and regarding the drill torque is laughable. I didn’t use one drill on this job and with 40 years you should have known this surely? Font of all knowledge, clearly! The screws are what I dropped as they fell out of the rotten screw holes! Our reviews & work speaks for itself!

Amazing service from start to finish

Amazing service from start to finish. From my initial enquiry online to all the communication received its been brilliant service. Had a cat flap fitted in double glazed patio window, and also some velux windows cleaned and fixed which we've been struggling to get fixed for nearly 2 years now! Very friendly, honest and reliable.

Blue Star serviced 4 x Velux windows…

Blue Star serviced 4 x Velux windows for me recently. They replaced the seal and also repaired 2 frames that were showing signed of rotting.
I found Nathan and his colleagues to be efficient, prompt & friendly,
I would highly recommend Blue Star to anyone needing advice/repair of their windows

A more accurate review

I’m struggling to understand why some of the reviews of Nathan and his team are so outlandish. Nathan came across as the most knowledgeable of the Velux approved fitters. His team were punctual, respectful and efficient. A minor issue was corrected swiftly and without fuss.
