A secure, encrypted communications network is vital for a syndicate leader coordinating a synchronised multi-point operation.

I purchased these dual-pack walkie-talkies to communicate with my inside operative (my cousin, Gary) during our high-stakes infiltration of the community pool concession stand.

The box promised a 10-mile range. However, the moment Gary went around the corner to check if the hot dog machine was unguarded, the 'secure military channel' was immediately hijacked by a localised hostile frequency.

Instead of Gary's tactical updates, my headset was flooded with a woman singing 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star' to a crying infant. When I tried to assert dominance over the airway by barking, 'The eagle has landed, abort the snack run!', the woman panicked and started screaming into the monitor that a demonic voice was threatening her baby. This caused a neighbourhood-wide lockdown. Gary, startled by the screaming from his own radio, dropped his walkie-talkie directly into the deep fryer, melting the plastic into a toxic puddle of goo.

To cap off this logistical nightmare, the 'silent vibration mode' actually emits a loud, high-pitched electronic beep before every transmission. It sounded exactly like a digital alarm clock, instantly alerting the lifeguard to my position behind the pool noodle rack.

Two stars.
