Absolutely terrible. Money gone and no product!

We bought an ecollar a month ago and still have not received it, despite the money being taken out of our account. There's no way of contacting them as the phones are 'busy' and there's no reply to numerous emails. Have raised a dispute with our bank now, hope to get the £130 back that way.

Really impressed and LOVE the product!

I bought a control collar from British Dog a couple of years ago, because it was the only option left open to me to control my Border Collie. He was a rescue, and my second Collie, so I am used to the breed - but he is a nightmare of a dog, much as I love him! Despite training classes, agility classes, and the fact that I go out on walks armed with toys, balls to chase, treats, etc, he would only behave when he wanted to. If he saw a tractor, horse, car, bike, or anything else that might be fun to chase, he was off after it and it didn't matter what I did to try get him back. In the end, he was in danger of causing a serious accident, or injury to a horse/rider, and I was absolutely at the end of my tether with him. It was either buy one of these collars, or call Border Collie Rescue! I phoned British Dog, with some reservations, and had a really helpful chat with a lovely guy who told me exactly how to use the collar and what to expect from it. He assured me that if I had any problems, British Dog would be there for me to advise and assist. The product arrived extremely quickly. It is of exceptionally high quality and in two years of being used daily, and covered in mud, sand, sea water, river water, and all manner of other yucky and squelchy things that dogs like to paddle in on walks, it has continued to work perfectly (touch wood!). Just as British Dog said, I saw immediate results with the collar and my Collie is now beautifully behaved, attracting favourable comments from everyone we meet because he is such a Good Boy. I got a beautiful Springador pup four years ago. She is absolutely perfect and adorable, but likes hunting pheasants. I had a scare one day, when she was in 'pheasant hunting zone' and strayed too near a road. I lost a pup on the road years ago, and it brought the whole horror of it all straight back to me. So, I immediately ordered another collar for her and it has given me tremendous peace of mind. I haven't actually needed to use the control much, since my Springador is beautifully behaved anyway, but it is good to know it is there if I need it. I have been so impressed with British Dog, both with the service provided and the superb quality of their products. I don't think I could find better anywhere. Lots of dog-owning friends ask me about the collar and I have recommended it, and British Dog as a company, to a great many people. I would like to thank them for saving my Collie's life, and MY sanity!

led light

the light for the collar is nice and bright and i can see it very well in the dark. But it is very difficult to turn on and off, it is very very stiff. The other problem i have is the back kept coming off and in fact i lost it twice. I then had to tie it on with string which thank goodness i did as i have completely lost the back now. At £15 it was quite expensive and it should not have these problems and i should not have to of tied the light onto the dogs collar

Excellent company to deal with.

We bought the Petsafe 350 collar after much soul searching and trying every other tip and supposed remedy for our Terrier, Lexi. She is a rescue dog and is so sweet and obedient in every way, except at returning to us when off the lead! Forget 1&1/2 hours away, 5 hours is her record! She hadn't disappeared, was "working" a wild patch of long grass, bushes and brambles about half a mile long, between a railway line and a canal. There was no way she was returning until she was ready. She knows no fear and when on a "hunt" has no idea in her head except chasing down her prey. Roads, railway lines, cattle grids thorn hedges she goes through them all with no regards for her personal safety.

We'd heard all the scare stories about stimulation collars and wouldn't touch them. However there was nothing else left, apart from a lifetime of walks on a lead. Cruelty itself for such a life loving dog. So we looked up the information on British Dog, checked out the reviews and so many sounded like Lexi so we went for it. Three days after placing my order the collar arrived as promised.

I WISH I'D SENT FOR IT EARLIER! What a fantastic pice of kit. We also got the training DVD, although it's American it is useful if starting from scratch with training yourself and the dog to use a stimulation collar.

I amended the training for Lexi because her obedience on the lead is faultless. I cut a length of rope to about 10 metres and clipped this onto her harness. She also wore her normal collar and the Petsafe one at the same time. I started recall training holding the rope and just followed the guidance on the DVD as to when to administer the stimulation. Honestly, within three doses of the stimulation, on the next to lowest setting, she got the idea she should come back. Within another two or three she responded to the audible warning sound only. After just 3 training sessions of 30-45 minutes she was coming back at only my command. Amazing results. Within the week I'd shortened the rope to 5 metres and let go of it, so it was trailing behind her. (Something to get hold of if she didn't return!) I needn't have bothered! By week three she was walking without a rope at all, responding to my call, or a dog whistle. I brought that in during week 2 and she picked it up straight away.

Now walks with her are great. She can run free, chase stuff, or sniff the hedges to her hearts content. the difference is she is under my control. I virtually never have to use the stimulation, only if she really gets the "red mist"! I only have to give an audible warning tone and she is instantly obedient. Infact for the last three weeks she wears the collar and the control stays in my pocket and the dog whistle or my voice is sufficient.

If you are a responsible dog owner and love your dog then there is no problem with these collars. It could be used to inflict severe pain on your dog, but then again so could your boot, a stick or just the lead. Don't be put off by the scaremongers. Most haven't used a collar and are repeating myths about "electricuting the dog".

If the difference is between the dog lying bleeding and dying at the side of the road or a tingling sensation for 1/200th of a second there is no contest, buy the collar from British Dog!

Lurcher reformed

I am very happy with the "Petsafe 350". We have a 5yr old Lurcher called Sam (Whippet/ Bedlington Terrier cross) he fitted that profile of knowing his commands but choosing to ignore them if it does not suit him. In the past 2yrs since we inherited Sam from my daughter he has gone chasing off across fields in pursuit of rabbits or birds or anything that offers him sport totally ignoring our calls & dog whistles. We have been left waiting for up to one & half hours until he decides to return shame faced & exhausted. Who knows where he has been & what he has been up to in that time? As a result he was spending most of his walks on an extending lead while our Border Terrier, Amy, walked with us off her lead and showing off to Sam.

We reluctantly decided to give the Petsafe a go. Our reluctance was that we heard people say these collars are unkind on dogs and we feared it would make an already nervous Sam even worse.

We have had the collar for a week know and we are absolutely delighted and amazed with the results. After the first couple of times of training with him on a training lead we felt confident enough to let him off his lead on a proper walk. At the end of this first week Sam is a transformed character who enjoys his walks off the lead with Amy. He comes galloping back for treat or fuss when called. We find that 99% of the time we are just using the audible recall button.

He genuinely looks a happier more relaxed dog. I am sure he has a smile on his face. We are enjoying our walks with him as he has become a pleasure to take out rather than a nightmare.

Thanks for the Petsafe it certainly worked for us & Sam.

Great peace and quiet at last in the car

Great peace and quiet in the car. We were not sure about getting a collar but after months of trying everything to stop our dog howling in the car the collar was the last resort. On long journeys great, but still a little troublesome on short journeys but he is getting better every day. We started with the audible sound as a warning then when he became worse a short sharp rap made him think and wonder where it had come from. I would recommend it to anyone Thank you

Delivery great product not so great

I purchased a small dog remote training collar , the delivery was very fast and product well packed.
We charged the collar for 24 hours as instructed in the manual but it did not charge.
I telephoned the help line and tried the remedy as instructed but to no avail.
I was offered a replacement but wanted a refund, I thought the person I dealt with was a bit abrupt, i returned the item the following day for next day delivery and i was made to wait 24 days for a refund, which i now have.

Sorry that it was not effective on your dog. We operate a trial hire service for up to 10 weeks after the purchase so customers have the freedom to return items for a part refund if it proves not to be right for them. You would not have been advised that you can't send the item back, even with the collar trimmed. Full details of the Trial Hire are found here http://www.britishdog.net/gbu0-display/buyhire.html
