Truly shocking service ! Mayday just use the nearest breakdown company ! Broke down twice and the absolute hassle and time to get home was really a real eye opener !
First time I needed help it took 5 hours to be rescued and get home 110 miles away as the driver didn’t have the correct kit to hook up to caravan and had to wait for an hour for another driver to fetch said equipment ! Second time, bearing in mind it was New Year’s Eve, a Birmingham based company turned up, hooked up and blew the alko system on the caravan so the brakes stuck on, blew the electrics on his truck and had to be rescued by another driver. We had two dogs, one a very nervous rescue stuffy and a 12 month old pup, they had to stay in the car on the back of the trailer because they wouldn’t have them in the cab, company policy they say ! So you can imagine the stress for them and us !? The breakdown truck couldn’t be fixed at the depot and the driver who rescued the first rescue driver was going to a New Year’s Eve party and would take us home, so we were told the caravan was to be left in their compound in Birmingham and we were given a hire car to go home in, so hurriedly had to load essentials from caravan to car. Caravan was delivered next day, their engineer fixed the alko but when I come to use the caravan 6 weeks later I found one of the tyres had been flat spotted and had to buy a new tyre at £50 !
So from breaking down at approx 1600 hrs to getting home without caravan at gone 0100 hrs on New Year’s Eve is something you don’t forget !!!!!
Is Mayday a good service to use !?
It gets you home, eventually but my god, it’s stressful !
Would I recommend them, well, yes because you eventually get home and there are lots of horror stories on YouTube about other breakdown recovery services that are just ans bad or even worse !!!
We all need breakdown cover, but don’t ever think that it’s all plain sailing because I’m sure I can guarantee they’re all the same !!!
I could go onto more detail but I doubt this will ever be posted publicly anyway !
Happy caravaning guys.
