Wouldn’t recommend Car Next Door.

My petrol did not get refunded as they claimed it would. I provided a tax receipt as required but because it was missing two pieces of information (that I provided to them afterwards) I was declined a fuel refund.

Charged $458.43…

Charged $458.43 for a panel coming loose on an old vehicle I was driving (they noticed this 2 months later). Hidden costs are huge. Nothing honestly happened to damage the car so feels like a scam / way to make more money to me. Won’t be continuing with them.

Prefect waste of money and life

You cant leave no stars so very sad about that. If you are a First Nation disabled person. And what your money stolen. Then this is the company for you. My wife hired a car with them while owns is in for service. Over charged for the Audi which broke down and left us waiting for two hours, I had treatment so we had to get an Uber $315 out of pocket had to pay for their roadside people $75 they refuse to pay. Still waiting on the refund of $165 for Diesel the car owner said he got a fine but no proof and they charge $40 for this. So the fact is they rent out cheap not working cars and then over charge and steal your money. Customer service is never able to do anything about anything. and no one ever replies

IT IS JUST NOT WORTH USING THIS SERVICE.

All in all, Car Next Door seems like a great service, you borrow cars from regular people and then return them for fee that is pretty reasonable TILL THEY CHARGE YOU $500, 92 DAYS LATER!!!!
That is a whole 3 months after you hired the car, and it has been returned and all has been signed off on. Then the owner sees a ding and photographs it a month later and then car next door decides that it’s your fault and gives you literally 4 days before they deduct money from your account. Supposedly I didn’t upload a photo of the driver’s side of the car but I 100% remember taking the photo as the circumstances to get the photo involved me having to stand in a garden bed to do such, you don’t really forget that kind of thing, and yes I had already deleted the photos on my phone as it had been so long I thought there was no longer any use for them.

So that is a whole month between me borrowing the car and the owner seeing a ding, just does not add up to me.

Don’t trust this service at all, if they are able to charge me $500 3 months later, they could also charge me for trips further in the past.

As well the case managers are terrible and rude and unable to clearly answer your questions they rely on subterfuge.

Car Next Door - Not worth your time and effort. Absolutely pathetic!

I listed my car for a few months and it was a nightmare.
There are more rules to follow than initially advertised and everything is time-consuming.
The process is not owner friendly and customer service is even worse.
Now that I have unlisted my car, they are not responding to my emails for postage fee reimbursement even after several weeks.
This is one of the worst experiences of my life!

Avoid at all cost!

If you think you're going to save by using this company, think again! So many hidden charges and in the end they also charge you for damages you have not done. I only wish I read these past review before I rented with them. They also have your credit card details so they just charge it without letting you know beforehand and will just send you a, "Thank you for your payment" email. Customer service are not helpful at all. They are like robots who copy paste their speil in their email replies. Just stick to more reputable rental companies. This was my worst car rental experience ever!

AVOID THE APP THEY WOULD CHARGE YOU FOR…

AVOID THE APP THEY WOULD CHARGE YOU FOR RANDOM REASONS WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION

The app wanted to charge me $100 for a flat battery and claimed I was the last renter that used the car 8 days ago. The Car Next Door cited the photos I uploaded and said I did not turn off the light. Sadly anyone who used their service knows that we need to upload photos before returning the key, and at night I must need to turn on the light to take photos that are clear enough the meet "their standard". I was lucky that 5 minutes after I ended the trip (key locked back). I took another photo for ending the day, which showed the lights were off. They insisted that it was me made the battery flat, with no reason!!!
They also provided the voltage data of the car showing the battery was flat AFTER 8 days I used the car. I can't imagine how 4 hours of driving for 55 km with no driving fault could damage the battery. The car was 17 years might be the reason but they insisted on charging me anyway.

Declined - decision final - with no explanation - go figure

I tried to rent a car for the first time buy my application go rejected with no valid reason. I have 24 years driving experience, amazing credit rating, never been in an accident and an impeccable driving record to my name but still got declined to join their community. No I'm concerned they have all my documents including licence and passport. Sounds like they don't look after their customers, reading they take money from you even though the car gets a parking ticket after your hire has finished and even if any accidents were not caused by you. In hindsight, it was probably for the best, don't want to get scammed from them down the track. I'll just use reputable commercial car hire companies.

DO NOT USE CAR NEXT DOOR

I have used Car Next Door about 10 times and thought it was a trustworthy service.. until I rented a van from them on the 6th of May. I took photos as required before and after but it was at night so not as clear as day photos.
9.5 weeks later they email me to say they are charging me for damage.
Not to mention a positive review from the owner a week later. The van had 28 more reviews since I used the vehicle.
I call the number to speak to the consultant. No answer, but an automated message saying we will call you back. No call back was made.
I emailed them my concerns about how this could unrealistically be my fault.
No contact made except an email that said this matter is resolved. We have charged you $500
Am now taking it to Fair Trading.
They are now joining up with Uber.
I suggest using a standard rental car service
This is DODGY

A complete scam! Stay away!

Car Next Door accepts ANY mechanic's quote for damage repairs. I have since seen the car in question, and the damage was never repaired. The owner simply grabbed over 1000 dollars in repair payments and CND did nothing to check this.

Further to this, their customer support is woeful. After successful completion of most of the payment plan, the company proceeded to take multiple lump sums at the end. The only warning for this was an email sent at 6pm, 3 months before! Upon questioning, the Customer Support team simply directed to another part of the company and offered no help. Nice one, Neil.

Absolutely risky service for the person with family

Absolutely risky service for the person renting the vehicle. This service aims at fleecing every cent of money from customers. First of all, the service is not cheap as it sounds. First of all the biggest problem is that the service has no dedicated parking spot, so once you have picked up the vehicle returning it and praying to god that the vehicle doesn't get a parking ticket becomes customers responsibility that can last for many days after the vehicle is returned and you think you are not exposed to any more risks.
Secondly, while this service offers no dedicated parking spots, and if any fine is accrued to the vehicle even after 5 days of returning the vehicle, in addition to transferring the fine to you, they will deduct an additional 'inconvenience' fee from your credit card shamelessly. They call it "It's covered in our T&Cs".

Ofcourse, the service doesn't has respect for customers.
The vehicles are in bad conditions, usually not clean. If vehicle tyre is flat, it doesn't matter to them because your booking has already started, and you can't get out of deal without losing your money.

They don't have on-ground people to speak to, and you are supposed to read all their help files to find the account number for their roadside assistance service.

I booked a vehicle, had to call NRMA on the morning of the trip, and the vehicle was not road worthy, with NRMA person telling to drive extremely carefully as the tyres were completely treaded off. The flat tyre was so bad in condition that NRMA kept it in spares without mending it, and taking this vehicle has been the highest level of risk I have put my family into. But unfortunately their T&Cs don't cover that.

This service has no respect for customers.

Absolute waste of time.

Went through the entire application process, provided every bit of information they asked for. Perfect driving record, perfect credit. No issues. Full license. I meet every single one of the eligibility criteria they provide.

The only issue may be that I'm a permanent resident with an American driver's license. Customer service and the site both confirm that does not affect eligibility.

They denied my application with no explanation. Customer service says they will not provide any explanation whatsoever. I've never been denied from renting a car in my life and they did not provide a single reason, which they say is due to "security purposes".

Not only that, but I am not even allowed to apply again. Ever.

I have no idea whether it's because I made a spelling mistake in the application, my card didn't go through or some other arbitrary mistake on their part or mine. I downloaded the app while I was waiting for approval (as I was instructed to do via the website) and since I used two devices - my phone and computer - they sent me an email saying there was unsual "detected activity on your Car Next Door account" and gave me the phone's IP address.

That could have been the reason my application was rejected. Who knows? Terrible customer experience.

Rejected Fuel Invoice

Took a long drive from Sydney to Shepparton and filled up diesel a few times along the way. I had one of the $100+ receipts was rejected for "due to the vehicle not being present at the location of the petrol station.
and seems to be moving Via our GPS data" despite the vehicle clearly going past the petrol station and the timestamps lining up. Had previously spent a large amount of money with CarNextDoor but was told the receipt was going to be declined indefinitely. Terrible service, can't recommend less.
