Stay away and save your money
I have been a long time user of car sharing services (over 4 years since 2018) and never have I ever had such a terrible experience. I recommend staying away from CND and instead use GoGet, Flexicar or PopCar.
Firstly, the amount they charge is incredibly high (over $100 a day + additional $ per km for a 10 year-old car) where as something like GoGet will charge $80-90 a day (fuel included + 150km) for a relatively new car (3-4 year-old). Also need to mention the terrible ease of use when it comes to unlocking and locking the car with CND - other services have a simple tap and go.
Secondly, they will ruin your credit score. They will inquire about your credit score and although it is in the policy, no other competitors (GoGet, Flexicar, PopCar) do this. If you are paying off a mortgage/credit car or thinking of applying, stay away as CND will lower your credit score!
Thirdly, they will try to milk you for your money, as much as they can. They will claim you made a tiny scratch then bill you for over $1,000 when clearly there was no scratch.
The customer support team is no help either since they just read off a script and when you explain your situation to them, they won't give you any sympathy. They have no interest in helping you whatsoever and take over 2 weeks to reply to your emails or call you back. When you call them back, they don't seem to pick up at all then call you back 2 days later.
I wish I have read the reviews here as it seems everyone's experience here is abysmal. Hope this reviews helps whoever is thinking of signing up CND because from my experience, this is a terrible mistake!
In fact, here are some other car sharing services I have used: GoGet, Flexicar, PopCar
Booking cancelled - so they could list for more money
Booked a car on the Gold Coast over Easter some weeks ago. All confirmed, money exchanged. 4 days out, the owner of the car stated that they were cancelling the booking as they needed the car for 'personal reasons'. Contacted customer support who suggested that I search for another vehicle and they would provide some compensation - only vehicle that is available is the one I had ORIGINALLY BOOKED - now listed at 4 x the price. Customer Service response - that's unfortunate and nothing we can do. Surely this is in breach of terms and conditions when car owners sign up to the platform!
I'm not good enough for their "community"!
I'm absolutely shocked that my application to rent a car has been rejected with no reason provided! This is the way they "protect their community" from me: 29 years driving record, never lost my licence, served the Australian community for 29 years. BTW, I worked as Uber driver for 3 years and had a rate of 4.9 out of 5 for all that time. I was good enough for Uber, but I see, "Car Next Door" has super-high requirements for "their community"!
don’t do business with them
I have been now waiting for 22 days to receive my January income and nothing yet. Ive been calling almost every day since 01/02 when payout invoice was sent. It was only for 2 bookings done earlier last month, my car is now not listed anymore which made things even worse. Last week someone said i would get the amount transferred to my bank and nothing. Banks now process payments straight way in seconds not in “up to 7 business day”.
It’s not about the 197,00 left on a 3 days booking but about to be fair to car owners.
Very disappointed and can’t believe there is a company trading in such poor way.
I am now reporting the CAR NEXT DOOR business to the ASIC and you should do the same.
AVOID
I have had an experience similar to other reviewers on here. Charged $250 for a lock box that fell off and broke while driving (dangerous! I had to run onto the road to get it) that couldn't be removed from the window when I got in the car (was completely stuck to the point I thought it must be affixed). They have no fair review process and will just charge your card a massive amount without even warning you. It seems like they massively inflate repair costs (in my case the cost of replacing a lock box, but other reviews with damage to the car seem even worse). I've spent more money now moving my whole house of furniture with my partner in the rain after work than I would have hiring movers. Going to have to waste my time disputing the payment via other means now as well.
They've also overcharged me for a trip and not applied the money I paid for petrol correctly so I have to waste my time trying to message them about that as well. Absolutely grim.
A month later emails saying there was…
A month later emails saying there was damage to the van. Bullsh*t. I took about 30 photos of the van I hired before and after and there was no damage caused by me whatsoever. They're trying every scam in the book to get extra money off people hiring. Delete the app and save yourself the stress.
Ratings talk for themselves
Ratings talk for themselves. When you register they tap your credit records. Yes, like you apply for a home loan. Ridiculous!!
Extremely poor customer support
Extremely poor customer support. Had been charged extra 30mins when Lender of the car had been late to provide me with the car to begin with. When I disputed this, it took me ages on chat support to prove my case. In the end, they even had the audacity to offer credit to be used in future, instead of a full cash refund. You don't own my money mate, that's not YOURS!!
Like everyone mentioned, please avoid them like a plague. They've got full access to your bank account and it's just a nightmare not knowing how much they're going to deduct since there's so much hidden cost behind it.
You could be slapped with a cleaning fee and not even be liable for it but the money's already gone! Better off with old fashioned car rental.
Fause advertising
Fause advertising, charge u one thing at the start & bill u a lot more after car is dropped off, i was quoted & changed $750 with $150 depost, then sent a bill for $1301.34 once I dropped car off, very poor, ill never recommend u to anyone & will never use them again!!! Not happy at all
No driver checks, damage and drugs in my car!
They don't do any driver checks. The only thing they check is if the driver is not disqualified. People with driving offences can still hired you car, included speeding tickets and drink/drug driving. Also even if someone has only just become fully licensed or foreign they can hired your car with no driving experience if the are over 21.
Carnextdoor suggests making a facebook ad to get more borrowers. Often people that don't have a full license or do not meet the criteria to rent the car, will just get their friend to rent it under their name. I know people are doing this because they messaged me over facebook market place and said thats what they were doing , and i told them NO you can't do that. People also asked to rent my car for a driving test, and with out full license, of course I said NO
For the installation of the Lock box and tracker and stickers i think the installer damaged my car or my keys because after my installation was complete my button on the keys for central locking didn't work anymore and i had to do it manually. I called them to asked what happened to my keys, but they said nothing.
Putting my car on car shared i was prepared for minior damage, small scratches and general wear and tear. But the amount of wear and tear was ridiculous. Every single trip there was a new scratch, or dent on the car or wheels or interior.
My car is very good condition and has leather seats, after one trip there were scratches over over the seats in the back. Large scratches on the interior of both doors in the back and animal fur everywhere.
My car is very small and another person hired my car to move house and when it came back there were large scratches and scuffs all over the interior of the boot, when before it was in perfect condition.
Many of the borrowers and inexperienced drivers, as when my car has been out on a trip Ive had many phone calls telling ne there is a problem with my car, which caused mw to panic and apologies to them. only to find out there is nothing wrong with the car, just just didn't know how to drive or what a normal car feels like to drive. CarNextDoor has free road side assist, so the borrowers called the roadside assist and when they arrived they said there was no problem, but just to be safe I also took my car to the mechanic for a check over to be safe, and no issues are found. This happened to me with 3 separate drivers in just a few months. Causing me panic and having the wasted time and money taking my car to the mechanic just to be safe.
With the multiple issues of damage CarNextDoor did investigate them and I got reimbursed for some of the damage on the exterior, but not all. But what they didn't tell me is they don't cover damage to the interior of the car, because there was a lot of damage to the interior. At one point i had them investigating 3 different claims from 3 different trips at the same time, it was getting very confusing and a lot of hassle.
Multiple times when my car was returned it was left with the wheels jammed up against the curb. Which indicates to me borrowers have no care or respect for my car, parking it with wheels jammed against the curb when they know me the owner is going to see it like that. Imagine what they are doing that i can't see.
And on the final trip my car had before I removed it from car share, my car came back and the interior of the roof lining had been pulled down by the rear view mirror. So I took a closer look and pushed inside the gap was a big pack of mini plastic bags. In the glove box was also a mini scale. I was was horrified. Not only is this more damage to my car, but someone has hired my car to sell and transport drugs. I reported this to CarNextDoor and they asked if I want to submit a damage report (even tho they don't cover damage to the interior of the car) I wanted them to know about the drugs in the car because I don't want this to happen to anyone else and maybe get the police involved about the drugs, as CarNextDoor has everyones details. But CarNextDoor didn't care.
After removing my car they came to remover all the stickers from my car and the lockbox, but they still left half of the stickers on my car.
Customer service is very slow and i could never get through to anyone on phone, email or live chat.
On the plus side , one person did get a red light ticket in my car and they gave me the information to pass the fine, and demerit points on to the right person. And they did pay for some of the damage on my car but alot was still not paid for.
I will never rent my car out or use car share again, the worst experience ever.
Its great for the person borrowing the car, but not for the person that owns the car
Dodgy business. Avoid at all costs!!
These guys are the worst. I have lodged a complaint with Fair Trading. I was charged $100 for a vehicle flat battery even though I had evidence that I turned the car lights off and all doors were closed when I dropped it off. Their customer service was awful and refused to escalate the issue. I regret using Car Next Door and it doesn’t take long to see they use these dodgy practices with all their customers. Avoid at all costs.
BEWARE OF CAR NEXT DOOR.
BEWARE OF CAR NEXT DOOR.
I have spoke to many authorities already regarding this scamming company. My bank confirmed Car Next Door scamming. Car Next Door refusing to delete my account because they want to steal my fuel money on my fuel tax invoice receipt (LOL). NSW authorities have advised me to take Car Next Door to Court. I suggest everyone that is a victim as well to file a complaint on FairTrading (AS LONG AS THERE IS A RECORD OF MULTIPLE VICTIMS, there is hope). Stay safe guys. Delete your account now if you have the chance!
This is a total scam
This is a total scam. Charged $140 dollars for a cleaning fee as a seat was stained, apparently. I sat in the van for two hours, in clean clothes. A blatant lie, and outright theft.
Be careful they do a credit check on…
Be careful they do a credit check on you.
Just to borrow a vehicle you’ll need to pay for up front anyways.
Bond and all.
Why a credit check when you’re NOT providing me with credit to begin with.
Payments are all made up front.
Rent elsewhere like Budget or Avis.
They don’t perform credit checks.
terrible customer service, insurance is a scam
I called car next door to ask how to extend my loan of the car without paying the extra for the comprehensive insurance (which is a rip off) they told me simply to rebook the car. At the end of my loan they then charged me more than 500 dollars for the comprehensive insurance (which I didn't want in the first place) and refused to refund me, despite me following their instructions. Their customer service is also useless.
I wish I could give 0 stars
The first two times we attempted to rent a car, the vehicle wasn’t there. We called Car Next Door and on both occasions the vehicle was still out with customers, meaning our entire Saturday was ruined.
More recently, they tried to bill us >$600 for damage done to a car that we borrowed - one month after the fact, and with zero evidence to prove it was us.
Do yourself a favour and steer clear of them. GoGet is a little bit more expensive, but far more reliable and far less stressful.
Avoid CND like a disease - I was a borrower and also car lender
As a car owner who rented there car out through the platform it was a nightmare. A borrower damaged my car and CND refused to fix the sensor that was involved in the impact even though it is a legislated auto safety requirement that they be replaced. I informed CND of that and it still took them over 5 months from when the incident occured to finally approve the repair. Then can you believe they remove me from the platform stating no reason and when I queried why they refused to provide an answer - I'm pretty sure it is because I knew my rights and the law. Worst customer experienced I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Avoid CND like the plague as both a car lender and also a car borrower.I once used CND for a trip in Brisbane and the car was nothing like in the photos and if I had been pulled over the police would have written the car off as not roadworthy on many counts it was that bad and dangerous to drive. Overall a dodgy company that does not treat its borrowers or car lenders well at all.
CND penalised me with a cleaning fee and admin costs based on animal fur mess that I didn't create and charged me without messaging me first.
Summary: CND penalised me with a cleaning fee and admin costs based on animal fur mess that I didn't create and charged me without messaging me first.
I have used Car Next Door for almost a year now and generally the service is quick and easy to use. However I was recently confronted with an issue whereby I was accused of not cleaning the car properly after use, and charged for it.
The issue happened on the day I was moving house (in lockdown in Sydney) when I hired a van. On entering the van I noticed there was animal fur and the van was messy but since some of their vehicles are like this (often because they're older model fleet vehicles that have seen a lot of action), I didn't bother to record this information in the app at the start of my session.
When CND received a complaint from the owner about the animal fur, they looked at the usage records and saw that myself and another user had driven that van around the date of the 18th of September.
However instead of speaking to both me and the other user, they simply checked the car feedback records and noted that whilst the previous user had provided positive feedback about the car's condition, I hadn't, and they assumed that I was the culprit of the animal fur. They then proceeded to charge me $60 for admin and a cleaning fee (undisclosed).
Whilst this is a great service, it's not cheap, and their behaviour in simply assuming I am the culprit without speaking to me first and charging me for the cleaning costs is not cool. CND you really need to get your head out of your bum on this one.
Terrible services as reliant on the person renting
Terrible services as a renter, you are 100% reliant on the renter reading the booking, having the vehicle ready for you. If you dont you are stuffed and considering that the saving isnt that great its now worth the risk.
Finding the raking for a renter is like a needle in a hay stack, apparently its there, but good look finding it.
Customer Service, lets not even discuss this, still waiting on my refund.
After being stuffed around on a first (and only) time rental I will never be back. Esp after seeing all the other reviews.
Terrible customer support
Terrible customer support, specifically Eunice C. Left 1/4 of fuel in the car but was charged an extra fee for that. Do not recommend! Don't know if I would book with them again so they charge me extra fees for no reason.
