Don't touch them with a barge poleDon't touch them with a barge pole

3 out of 4 of my rentals with them have been a nightmare. A battery went flat from being old and the owner didn't want to replace it, a clutch burnt out and needed to be towed away and I took 5 hours getting a new car - they were going to leave it up to me to get a new one but I insisted they found one for me which was more expensive and they said they would pay the difference but they didn't - at the end of the trip I found that there was someone stash under the seat with marijuana and hash and if I had have been pulled up by police I could have been charged. Another car had mould and mildew all over the back seats. A van was terribly dirty. Another car had been damaged by the previous renter and the owner still wanted me to rent it with the front wheel rubbing against the damaged part - totally dangerous. This company is a joke. There is cheap and then there is a complete pain in the neck which is what this is - every time. It's not even cheap. They promise refunds but do not deliver.

BASICALLY A SCAM

They charge you the same amount as you would pay at a normal hire car company's , the only difference is that your car with Car Next Door isn't clean or new. Heaps of hidden costs and charges. The car I hired didn't have proper working air-con and I was in DARWIN! They make things purposefully confusing and difficult to understand and navigate so that they can scam you. Customer service awful. Nothing was handled well.

OUTRAGEOUS THIEFS

I hired a Van from CarNextDoor in March for moving some of my stuff from a place to another. In May the company contacted me because allegedly there was a scratch on a tail light. Listen well, a scratch on a tail light on a car that was far away to be new. They come out with a solution to charge 500$ on my credit card without any authorization.

The funny thing is that this scratch it's not been done by me, on the pictures it's not clear but it doesn't matter, you put your card detail and they can so whatever they want.

Outrageous, underwhelming and ridiculous. Stay away from this scammers, to have an extra car listed they obey to the scam owners.

Spread the word because I hope this will not happen to anyone else.

OUTRAGEOUS!!! PAY MORE FOR A TRUSTWORTHY COMPANY RATHER THAN THEM.

Absolutely terrible service

Absolutely terrible service. So many hidden charges that they add on. Then when you try and get in touch with them the process is terrible and you get no where. The worst car service I have ever used.

A massive farce

Customer service is just a scripted chat screen, they don't meet expectations and cancels cars frequently. 0 dispute resolution when they make errors but they will charge you hidden fees months later

Terrible 'overseas' Customer Service, almost a scam!

all the details of the at-fault 3rd party, including insurance and claim number etc.
Overseas customer service had NO idea how to handle an insurance claim and forced me to pay an excess (even had given them all the details).
It has been more than six months since the incident and still haven't been able to settle the claim with the insurance company, and still holding my excess.

If you end up using Car Next Door, just pray you don't have to use Customer Service :)

Terrible experience

Terrible experience, will never use again.
The entire process of using car next door is more expensive than it needs to be. The car I hired had less than 1/4 tank of fuel, in which they promise that it would have more than that. Then the car gets a flat tyre and I am left to change it by myself and charged an additional fee. Extremely poor customer service and lack of empathy. Run as far as you can from this company. I am disgusted

Absolutely terrible service

If I could leave no stars - I WOULD.

Car next door have knocked back my application for no reason at all. Without the possibility of having it reviewed. Absolutely rubbish live chat support that sends canned responses like a broken record.

To maintain the security of our screening process, we can’t provide any reasons or discuss why your application was declined. We understand how frustrating it can be to have your application declined without any explanation, and we’re really sorry that we can’t provide any more information or an opportunity to re-submit.

Thanks again for your interest in our company. We sincerely apologise for any hassle and disappointment caused. Your trip request has been cancelled and your card won’t be charged.

I’m a little perplexed with Car Next Door. I put in an application which ended up being knocked back for no reason. I’m almost 34, completely clean driving record (and criminal record), fully licensed. It’s all good because I’ll just rent a car from a more secure source when I need one but I can’t help but feel a little confused. I can’t think of a single reason why I would be knocked back but there you go.

Pay more for a more trustworthy service

Car Next Door (CND) failed to honour their member agreement in a dispute and have not responded to me properly for six months despite numerous follow-ups.

This service is great, as long as you don't run into an issue. This isn't simply one bad experience - a quick look at sites like Trust Pilot, Product Review, and Reddit will show that there are many people who have had similar experiences. I would strongly recommend not using this service based on their treatment of their customers.

Until last year, I was a regular CND borrower. CND was cheap, convenient, and the lack of membership fee was appealing. However, after an incident in June 2021 where a car I borrowed was unknowingly damaged by someone else when it was in my possession, I had the displeasure of experiencing their customer service. This dispute is still unresolved a year later.

CND member agreement states that ● Car Next Door will try to help the Members involved to reach a fair resolution to the dispute; and ● If the Members involved are still unable to reach an agreement to resolve the complaint within a reasonable time, or unsatisfied with the resolution suggested by Car Next Door, then Car Next Door will refer the Members to the Community Justice Centres (in NSW).

CND instead charged me $610 without offering me the opportunity to dispute or discuss with the owner. They conveniently ignored all of my questions, producing canned responses about the damage being my responsibility (which I was not denying). As they took roughly a month to respond to each email I sent or weren't able to answer my questions over the phone, I took it upon myself to contact the owner and asked for a 50% refund. The owner agreed without question, which suggests that if I was offered a dispute as I was rightly owed, I would not have had to pay at all. CND took over a month to send the refund. They continuously apologise for their slow replies, yet they took minutes to take money from my account when I confirmed my bank details, suggesting they can be quick when it suits them.

CND refuses to acknowledge let alone provide a reason for not honouring this section of their member agreement. Since they haven't referred me to the Community Justice Centre, I appealed myself, but the CND head office hasn't responded to the letter, and it seems unlikely they ever will.

Their poor customer service has led me to decide it's better to switch to a more trustworthy service and to convince others to do the same.

CND rejected my application to join…

CND rejected my application to join with no reason given whatsoever. They refuse to disclose this information which is extremely frustrating. I have never had any issues renting cars and have no credit problems or driving offences. I was hopping mad. But after reading the reviews here I am very grateful that I was rejected!!! they sound atrocious. As others have recommended I’m going to try another car share or just a regular rental car - at least you know what service you can expect. Thanks everyone for sharing xxx

Currently Taking Legal Action Against Car Next Door

Currently undertaking legal action against Car Next Door ("CND").
1. No phone contact details. When emailing, although they advise they are managing an important issue; it appears nothing is being done.
2. The process to make a claim does not appear to have a system that involves CND. CND inform you you to sms/email directly with the car owner for resolutions. Unlike other similar portals (airbnb, booking.com etc) who monitor all comms and take a pro-active stance towards resolution

In there defense, they were quick to return an over charge on fuel/milage.

My suggestion would be to use a reputable car hire company and not CND.

Extremely expensive and not worth paying the money. Often much cheaper with an actual car hire company such as Budget.

Customer Support does not do anything useful except suggest emailing in.

Save yourself money, go elsewhere.

Worst possible service!

This company denied me access to hire a car for no reason, valid ID and credit cards were provided. Such a waste of time and effort, this service showed promise but they give no valid reasons just outright reject you...

Unfair and unjust policy!

I was a member for more than 6months and have been renting regularly. Totalling more than 200+++ days on 10+ different car brands since I joined. Always 100% positive feedbacks received from the owners when the cars were returned. And despite all of that, my membership was recently cancelled and I would be fined due to a complaint (the one and only) that was made about the previous car smelled of cigarette when it was returned. An allegation which I strongly denied as I am a non smoker and felt offended by the false allegation. My request for the matter to be further investigated and proof to be presented were not met. What a disgrace and appalling way to treat your loyal and regular customers. To Car Next Door Owner Experience Support Team, your explanations and actions were very unfair and unjust. To car renters, I would not recommend this car rental company to you.

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever. I was a victim in a car accident where the third party backed into me at a red light. I had paid for insurance but Car Next Door attempted to charge me $3,000 even though the third party who was at fault was willing to pay. I had to block car next door from my bank account. My calls and emails to customer service were rarely returned or acknowledged- and finally, when I did receive correspondence after weeks - informing me ‘that the balance would be settled with the third party’ I received another automated email with the owing invoice and now my CREDIT SCORE has been impacted!!!! Worst customer service ever - you can’t speak to anyone in Australia. I have tried all social media accounts, email, chat box on website and phone multiple times to get this dealt with for months to no avail. Terrible company & incredibly stressful.
