Groupon Vouchers and the Crazy Bear Rip Off

I purchased a Groupon dinner voucher and a cocktail voucher for my son and his girlfriend for Christmas. When they went along they would not accept both vouchers and said they had to be used on two separate visits. As the voucher was expiring they extended it to 30 December 2021. I called today as we are going there for lunch and I wanted to book the voucher in and was told they were not accepting vouchers in December. I feel really annoyed that I have wasted my money and that they wouldn't honor the voucher!!

AWFUL SERVICE AVOID AT ALL COSTS

AWFUL SERVICE AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I had purchased a gift voucher to treat myself and my partner to a prepaid luxury night away at the Crazy Bear Hotel. After a tough, exhausting year, working throughout the pandemic within the NHS, this is just what we needed and deserved.

Due to the National lockdown and restrictions, we have been unable to book so the voucher was extended to allow us to book at a later date.

As a busy NHS worker, labelled last years hero’s, I am only able to take time off that suits my rota, which we get roughly every 8 weeks.

I have called numerous times to book and redeem our voucher, at a date that suits to find that the rooms we’ve paid for are fully booked.

The voucher we have states it expires 31st December 2021, so we had arranged to book for 7th December 2021. When I called to book the operator advised that the within the small print the voucher must have been redeemed by 31st October 2021.

I called the management of the Crazy Bear Hotel and explained my situation and they were not helpful at all and point blank refused to make any movement or gesture of goodwill.

This voucher had been paid in full and entitled us to a night at their hotel. They now say that the voucher had expired and we cannot visit. I am truly shocked, disgusted and hurt to know they will not allow us to book or offer us any type of refund.

Please do not purchase any prepaid vouchers from this hotel group. They do not care about you as a customer, but only taking your hard earned money.

I will continue to post my awful experience and show the lack of respect this hotel group has for our hardworking NHS staff.

Hopefully, the management will see some sense and offer a gesture of goodwill and allow us to use our PREPAID voucher.

Please don’t do it!!

Please don’t do it!!
Cost was £470 for double room accommodation, Thai meal for two (valued at over £100) and Continental breakfast.
The room was tiny, just enough room to walk around the end of the bed. No window. No bathroom door. No in room facilities. A really old tv with celestial channels, you have to pay an additional £7 per movie!!
To get to the room you have to walk out and along side the building, across the car park and up an outside staircase. Getting to the pool was not practical in the cold/rain, unless you are happy to do so in your dressing gown!?!
The meal was overpriced & overcooked. You get a starter, meat dish & dessert. ALL sides have to be purchased and a tiny 1 person rice portion was £7! A basic gin & tonic £16!! The meal portions were tiny! The crème brûlée cold & tasteless.
Considering the price of the room (minimum £300+), the breakfast was terrible. There was a choice of 2 cold meats, 2 cheese, bread & 2 pastries. Cold hard boiled eggs & cold pastries.
I cannot understand how they can justify this price for the facilities & service.
Please do not waste your money, find somewhere, anywhere else!!

I'm still waiting to for a Couple's Thai Massage for ~2 years.

I've had this Groupon voucher for a couples Thai Massage since pre-Jan2020. For obvious reasons, the massage had to be cancelled multiple times.

Groupon cannot refund me since it was already 'redeemed' by Crazy Bear Beaconsfield despite me not using it!

Following contact with Chris Hanks on multiple occasions to please just cancel and refund me instead has led to nowt. All they've done is extend it a few months at a time, and yet no times are available for booking 'til Xmas, when the extension ends.
The kicker? No more extensions.

I've paid for my mistake and bought something worthless so you don't have to. Just avoid this business at all costs. Bad practice and horrible customer service.

Beconsfield Stay

My wife and I stayed at Beconsfield on a Sunday night.
This was a very belated birthday voucher from our Daughter.
On the Saturday we tried to re arrange due to the chronic fuel shortage where we live.
The lady we spoke to was very understanding but, when she asked her manager, he said no, there was fuel available around there (turns out it was Oxford) and we live in SE London, how could he judge what it was like where we live ?
We siphoned fuel from our sons car so that we could make the journey.

The staff .every where in the hotel were exceptional
On arrival we were asked to deposit £150 on a card to cover expenses, not a problem, or so I thought.
The lay out is great and a lovely lady on reception gave us a glass of fizz and a tour on the way to our rooms.
The hotel is laid out in a lovely 'Morrocan' style, but everywhere is so dark.
People everywhere were using their torches on their phones to read menus etc.
The prices in the bar are ridiculously high, so much so that we had pre dinner drinks in the town.
Dinner was fine and, again service was excellent.
On checking out I was given our bill but with no sign of the £150 deposit being taken off of it, I was told that would be returned separately, and now 4 days later still no sign of it !!
To cap it all , my wife left her black jacket in the room, (could not see it as it was so dark) and despite emails and phone calls no one has come back.
Great concept, great staff , not in any way shape or form is it value for the sort of money they charge.
And the keeping of the £150 deposit is not good practice.

Stayed at Beaconsfield hotel for my birthday with my partner in a suite room (6)The whole experience from start to finish was outstanding and unforgettable! the staff were very accommodating and polite, food was tasty and rooms are beautifully decorated. The prices are expensive and overpriced. However, this is what you expect when you stay at a 5 star hotel.

What a horrendous nights stay

What a horrendous nights stay, despite the warm welcome upon arrival and reasonable dinner at their restaurant, the evening back st the hotel was a joke. The event held on site turned into an after party back at the room, keeping us awake to gone 3am. Despite a number for calls to reception we were greeted with they have paid as much as you have for the room.!!
I complained to the on-site manager in the morning and was asked to put my complaint in writing to the manager. I’m not surprised given the number of bad reviews on here that after 3 emails I have not heard anything in 2 weeks. Do not waste your money!! I’ve had better nights sleep at a Premier Inn

Disappointing stay at Stadhampton Crazy…

Disappointing stay at Stadhampton Crazy Bear, this was our third visit and one which we recommended to two other couples. We purchased on a groupon basis and one of our rooms we upgraded (£40)!! when we arrived we were firstly informed that the actual bar was closed for a private function! this should have been made clear to us prior to our arrival as that is the whole part of the experience. When I spoke to the receptionists they said they had only been informed that morning which I find very hard to believe. following on from this I had previously enquired if the Jazz was taking place and was told it was but there was no need for me to book a table if we were not dining at lunchtime, but when asked to be seated they said I needed to book in advance!! Eventually we were put in the conservatory for a couple of drinks before being shown to our three rooms. The first room was just big enough for two people but when we were shown to the second room the receptionist described it as a bit like a "caravan" we all just looked at each other and thought she was joking but clearly she wasn't it was like a cupboard. The third room wasn't much bigger even though we paid a supplement and it was very tired not at all what we had experienced on our last 2 visits. We tried to put all of this behind us and got ready for dinner (which was included in the price) we were shown to our table and a young waitress came over to us presented one of our party with a menu then immediately took it back and said "this isn't for you" and gave her another one which I found quite odd. After looking at the Menu we realised that there were quite a few added costs for example if you ordered the Pork Chop that would be all you would get if you didn't pay extra for potatoes and vegetables again we just tried to make the most of it. Finally earlier in the day I had asked if maybe a candle could be put in a couple of the deserts as it was a 60th and 70th birthday celebration and was told that this would not be a problem!! (this never happened) I explained our disappointment to Ian the restaurant manager who was very helpful and brought out 2 cupcakes with candles in and a glass of port for the men (little too late but at least he acknowledged our complaint). The next morning when we checked out I was asked by the staff if we enjoyed our stay and I explained that the whole experience was a disappointment and very embarrassing for me and my husband after highly recommending it to friends, she advised me to put it in writing to Tom Downing the Manager who has yet not had the decency to reply to my email sent over a week ago!!! I will definitely not be recommending this hotel to anybody else and I suggest you think twice before booking!!

Disappointing

Quite disappointing. Nice food, but nothing special. Very different to my experience of the Fitzrovia restaurant. Unfortunately, this one is now closed after Covid. Staff were excellent in Beaconsfield, but the food was overpriced. People are prepared to pay, but are not prepared to be ripped off. Similar restaurants offering the same food for far less. Giving prawn crackers as a tasting dish is simply laughable. Ambiance is great and the styling is superb. Now the food needs to match the branding.

Where to start - dreadful, awful experience. Crazy Bear Stadhampton

Where to start. This hotel (Stadhampton) is extortionate in terms of what you get for your money. It is indeed run down, the management aren't interested in complaints - despite numerous attempts to contact them before writing a negative review. I wanted to give them the chance to respond.

We paid full price - £600. £600 for a night!! It was a one off, a treat and a special occasion. It was not worth the money - it wasn't worth less than half the money.

As others said, we experienced: a room that was peeling in decor with stains on the floor tiles, no door on the bathroom, zero sound proofing - you can hear everything in other rooms, taps not working and scalding hot water running, and, management who aren't interested in rectifying this.

So disappointed as we were really looking forward to this. I am shocked and sad as to the cost versus the experience. It was extremely poor and at that price point should be an exceptional experience. Please avoid.

Gorgeous but extortionate prices…

Got a groupon deal for the Beaconsfield Crazy Bear Hotel. 1 night with champagne, 3 course dinner and breakfast included.

First impressions were great. The pool and bar area was beautiful. Heated pool was lovely! Drinks are around £14 each (for a G&T or a cocktail) which is very steep.

The room was beautiful. We were really impressed and amazing by the quirkiness, like a bath that fills from the ceiling. However the only downside was there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, not a mini fridge. To order a tea or coffee on room service was £4.50 per coffee which is outrageous.

The food at dinner was lovely but we needed to order and pay separately for a side with our mains. £7 for a small side portion of noodles to go with the Thai food..

Breakfast was fine. I’d have expected more choice and maybe some fresh fruit in the breakfast buffet.

When we checked out and paid for the drinks and dinner charges, our bargain of a groupon deal cost an additional £140.

It’s a really beautiful place but I wouldn’t go back unless I packed my own travel kettle & tea, extra food and alcohol!

Went tonight to the stadhampton Crazy Bear for our sons 19th birthday, we were very disappointed, the food was good but my husband has coeliac disease and ordered the steak but to be told he couldn’t have chips as these weren’t gluten free.
Toilets were very tired, pipes held up with cable ties and writing on the walls.
The table we were put on was in a corner with wobbly chairs that belong in a skip, the rest of the restaurant has nice seats, tried to give constructive criticism to the manager and she wasn’t interested. Certainly not worth the money 😡strongly advise not to waste time and money going there

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

I booked the Crazy Bear at Beaconsfield for my husband's 50th birthday present. We finally went to stay there on the 10th June for one night. First impressions great, food lovely, staff great, atmosphere lovely. However, that's where it stopped. We didn't sleep at all due to the amount of noise coming from the room above that started at 1am and didn't stop until precisely 5.34am in the morning!! At 3am we contacted reception after listening to the constant banging, what sounded like furniture being moved around, doors slamming, people going up and down the stairs for 2 hours. The duty manager said that he would come over and apologised. However the noise just carried on and on. Then the shower started and we could hear water running down our walls...this went on probably 5 or 6 times!! Why you can hear noise as clearly as this in a hotel that charges as much I do not know! We've had better night's sleep in a travelodge!! Before going for breakfast I went to have a shower, no hot water!! even after running it for about 20 minutes still no hot water came out!! Anyway long story short we will not be returning again and the customer service is absolutely disgusting!! They are completely disinterested and couldn't care less how your stay actually was. Chris Hanks who is the deputy manager at the Crazy Bear in Beaconsfield clearly needs to be in a non-customer service job. I really do not like complaining about anything and it takes alot for me to complain but I felt after a night of no sleep after paying alot of money to stay there it was warranted. Why I bothered though I don't know. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!! There are plenty of other lovely hotels that don't charge as much as this and who actually care about their guests!!! We will definitely NOT be returning and neither will alot of our friends be making their first visit after the experience we had whilst there and the awful customer service we have received! No wonder you have so many bad reviews!!!

Overrated

We redeemed a voucher at the Beaconsfield restaurant for Sunday lunch for 4 with glass of champagne. All 4 of us were looking forward to visiting.

I’m sorry to say that our sunday lunch was absolutely terrible. Staff and service were very good, but quality of food was awful. Looked nothing like the images of the food shown on groupon website. Starters were OK and dessert was good, however main roast was very very poor. I'm sure 'roast' potatoes were cooked from frozen, chicken was mostly bone and beef was fatty. We have wanted to come here for a while and my son’s birthday seemed the ideal opportunity. I was also considering whether to book here for a couple of nights to celebrate our anniversary. Fortunately I now know it is not worth it and will look elsewhere, so there is some good to come of it. Very disappointing night for us all.

Did not wish to complain at the time as we were sat right next to couples either side of us and didn't want to ruin their night out and my son didn’t want to make a fuss.

REVIEW FOR CRAZY BEAR BEACONSFIELD

REVIEW FOR CRAZY BEAR BEACONSFIELD

If you want a nice hotel, book the Travelodge and not Crazy bear - trust me, it’s not worth £400 a night.

We booked for our wedding night and arrived at the hotel at around 9:30pm. Check-in was smooth and we were led to our small, yet cosy room. The room service was unavailable as it shuts at 9:45pm. We went to have a shower only to realise that the floor was not angled Correctly which led to the bathroom flooding with water. We were unable to use the toilet once we had had a shower unless we wanted to be up to our ankles in water.

Staff provided around 4 extra towels which did nothing to soak up the water.

Being tired from our wedding we went to sleep, woke up in the morning, still unable to use the toilet. Skipped the shower and left.

Upon check out, the lady at reception said “yes, the drains block and the water drainage is not the best. There is nothing that we could do”.

Terribly run and organised hotel

Terribly run and organised hotel, we were told upon staying we had an iron and dressing gowns. Then after we checked out we were told there was a missing hair dryer, which we were charged £42 for because they have a ‘checklist’ - they then didn’t get back to us even after numerous voicemessages left for them, just taking the money and then had to email them to finally get a reply. Which the manager then was condescending to me saying it’s ‘common practise’. It very much felt like because we weren’t their usually high rolling client that we were treated different and got poor customer service with this issue.

Ah Crazy Bear Hotel Stadhampton …

Ah Crazy Bear Hotel Stadhampton …. You did not disappoint!! What a place. I’ve stayed in some nice places before with exceptional service… THIS place is better than anything I’ve experienced before! The staff, nothing is too much trouble and cannot do enough for you but still make things feel laid back, in control and smooth. The Hotel is just something you need to experience for yourself, it cannot be explained, if you get the chance to go then DO IT. Make sure you have dinner there … the food, down to the little details is OUTSTANDING, a complete taste sensation for each mouthful, from start to finish! We’re booking again to experience their other hotel as soon as we can get in!!
We would love to return and would never hesitate to recommend going here!
Also, if you’re going to Stadhampton, look out for Sophie, she’s LOVELY and has worked there for over 20 years!
We’ll be back …. After trying Beaconsfield!!
Ghana’s for an smack go stay and making us feel welcome, comfortable and generally awesome!!
