avoid as repairs don’t last a month

About 3 months ago I took my car to your Pitcorthie branch and got my handbrake fixed along with new brake pads. Within the month the handbrake stopped working again, I went back to the branch and they happily fixed it. When I got the car back it was making a noise that I can only describe as a helicopter, again I took that car back and it was "fixed" when I picked it up Saturday just before closing. On the dive home the noise was still there so on Monday morning I took the car back again, I called for an update to be told it had been on the ramps all morning but that was a lie as it was still sitting in the car park, I got the car back with the noise being "fixed" but yet again the car was still making the noise, just not as loud. Took the car back a 3rd time and the mechanic said he and one of the other boys took it out and it did make a noise but there was nothing else they could do. So my car that didnt make a noise when it went in is now apartently unfixable and now has very high pitched scraping noise when the car reverses?! I decided to persevere with the noise as I use my car for work and already lost enough money, not to mention I use it to take my children to school and nursery but now 3 weeks later the hand brake is now not working again. Surely the handbrkae should last more than 3/4 weeks after being fix? My car seems to be worse than better and I'm also over £300 out of pocket just on the apartent repairs, that doesnt include the days i couldnt work with the car being in the garage. I'm very unsatisfied with the work done on my car. No doubt I'm going to have to spend more money to get whatever problem that has been caused with the so-called work your branch has done. Been now waiting 3 weeks for the area manager to get in contact with me but obviously in no rush…..poor customer care

Thank you for your feedback. Your feedback is not the usual sort of feedback that D&G Autocare receives from customers.

All work, parts and labour, are fully covered by D&G Autocare 12 months or 12,000 miles guarantee. You were invited to return the vehicle under the guarantee to inspect what is causing the issues. The invitation is still open. You should contact the branch and make arrangements to return the car under the guarantee to have the work inspected.

Great Service @ Inverkeithing

The whole family uses D&G for many cars - this time I went in for a wheel balance, and was shown a problem with one of the wheels. It wasn't something D&G could fix, and because one wheel couldn't be balanced, I wasn't charged.

I had a good chat with Scott & others about how to resolve the issue and possible ways forward.

I've always found them to be helpful, up-front and honest.

Refused to honour booked MOT time

Van booked in online for MOT at 1000 - confirmed by email.

Vehicle presented at the correct time for MOT and garage refused to honour the timeslot booked.

Definitely will not be taking any of our vans here in future.

***Edit to reply to D&G Autocare's reply***

At no point was '1030 slot' offered - in fact your staff member repeatedly stated that there were no slots for MOT's, because 'that's not how it works'... We were told that the van would need to just be left and it would get done at some point in the afternoon. If someone had been upfront about not using timed slots I would never have booked the MOT with this company - you should really consider looking at why you have time slot options on your booking system when your staff are adamant they don't use them!

Saved the day!!!

Great friendly service from these guys. I burst a tire on a pothole in Waggon Road at 11.30pm. The next morning the RAC found D&G. They had my tire in stock. I drove over and they changed it right away. I was really stuck as I had an appointment I couldn’t cancel.
Thanks a million guys.

D&G NOT FOR ME

I went to D and G a few months ago, they replaced an exhaust, 2 track rod ends and a boot on the CV joint. Straight out the door the boot fell off, they fixed it so I let it go. However, even then I felt a little ripped off at the prices, but in the end, they were the first to get back with a price and could get my car in quickly which, as a delivery driver, was important. Come March 25th I put it in for MOT knowing it would fail but not how badly. The guy suggested to me I should scrap my car!!! Not a chance, so I looked around and found a great wee place that would do the welding for me and got that sorted. There were a couple other failures as well, a seatbelt in the back which was fixed quite easily however not by D&G but by another mechanic who also let me know that another failure, a light, was not actually a failure as they'd put down it was a sidelight not working when I fact it was a fog lamp. So, I arranged to have my car back in to D&G after the welding was done. Turned up and there was no record of my appt, no seatbelt which the mechanic had said he would order (before I found out it was an easy fix later in the day) nothing, so I left and went to another garage. The guy there was great, told me the seatbelt was an easy fix and that the fog light wasn't even a failure. Eventually on Friday morning I get a call to take it in to D&G for a resit of it's MOT, with no apology or real explanation. The mechanic I originally asked to book me in took offence to me asking why there was no record of my appt for the previous day and where the seatbelt he was supposed to have ordered was ( my suspicion being that he was going to take the old one off and fix it, clean it up and say it was new by this point).
He said his day off was unintended the day before that's why there was no record however it didn't make sense. His mechanic then attempted to fail my car on something new, another piece of the sill he said needed welding however this piece was not mentioned on the failure slip and the guy who had welded my car had done more than was strictly needed for my car to pass. I have no words to describe the feelings I felt right in that moment. Eventually he agreed that it wasn't a failure or in the original failure slip but I should have it looked at to prevent further damage, which I will. Honestly, probably the most stressful couple of days of the last few years. I wouldn't for the life of me recommend this garage to anyone. They SEEM friendly and helpful, they come across as decent, but the undercurrent is dirty. I'm sure there are lots of customers out there who will say that they're a great garage, and maybe their experience was a good one, but my experience was not, I won't be going back, which I'm sure will make no real difference to the garage, they aren't going to miss a single customer who spent a few quid here or there, but if what I say gives someone something to think about before they take their own car to D&G or even allows someone to feel like their thoughts on their own experience there are validated then good.

My recent experience at Stirling Garage was extremely disappointing. Despite needing only a handbrake adjustment for my MOT, the staff were unfriendly and unable to complete the task. As a result, my vehicle failed the MOT.

Thank you for your feedback. Your feedback is not the usual feedback that D&G Autocare gets from customers.

When a vehicle is submitted for an MOT test it should be submitted in a condition to pass the MOT test. I can confirm that your vehicle failed the MOT test because it did not reach the DVSA standard to be driven on the road and for multiple fail point reasons. You took the vehicle away to do the repairs yourself and returned the vehicle for a re-test. However, your vehicle failed the MOT re-test because the repairs were not done correctly. If you have a complaint you should make the complaint to the DVSA (the government body that sets the conditions and regulations for MOT tests). D&G Autocare MOT Testers are appointed by the DVSA and follow strict rules.

Don't waste your time with an EV

Booked an appointment for my EV. Travelled 40 minutes to the garage and then waited for a lift back as was told to arrive at 8. Received a phone call at 1 to say they cant MOT the car as it had a yellow fault for the brakes. Thats the whole pirpoae of an MOT to detwrmine the safety of the car and if required have it repaired. Why take it to a garage otherwise. Was told to take it to another garage to have it repaired/fixed before they can MOT it. Wasted most of the day. This garage was at Pitreavie. Was told lies about the car. Felt that they didn't want the booking as it was done via a 3rd party. I've have used D&G in the past in Perth and Kirkcaldy and have always had God service. Won't be back. Received a nonsense response about fixing the car before having it MOTd. Took to another garage and car passed. No issues with warning light. They never checked the car. Knew the garage was talking rubbish. Again, people don't waste your time. Go elsewhere.

Thank you for your feedback.

You submitted your Tesla car for an MOT test in full knowledge that your car already had a brake fault. You did not inform the branch of the fault beforehand.

The purpose of the MOT test, is to test vehicles to ensure that they are safe to be driven on the road. Your Tesla did not meet that requirement when you submitted it for the MOT test. Your Tesla would have failed the MOT test for a pre-existent fault that you knew of and that you did not attend to before submitting your car for testing.

Had you informed the the branch, of the brake fault beforehand, you would have been told that the car would not pass the MOT test and that the brakes would need to be attended to first.

Inverkeithing D&G an honest bunch

I had a problem with a grinding noise from a wheel. Got it checked thinking it was a brake issue. Not only did the guys squeeze me in last minute, they checked my brakes, found it to be a debris problem and cleaned and fixed it no charge!
Honest bunch of guys, cant speak highly enough of them. Second time over the years theyve sorted me out like this. Brilliant.

I was facing extreme power loss in my mini one. I spoke with Chris who is covering for James at the Stirling depot garage. After inspection of car on computer it recognised the battery that was originally taken from the supplier was the wrong battery. Chris then got in touch with management at D and G autocare. End result was the battery was changed over to the correct battery at no cost. I would like to thank Chris and the management at D and G auto care for there persistence in this matter. If any time your looking for a garage that will look after their customers. Please look no further than people who listen and have fantastic prices. I have been using the same garage for nine years. Fantastic staff and a very professional understanding management. 👏

I have been using the Musselburgh…

I have been using the Musselburgh branch of D&G auto care for the last 3 years I have always thought they were very reasonable price wise until yesterday when I took my pickup in with a alternator problem,
They quoted me £730 for the alternator and £85 for fitting, told them no thanks and went somewhere else and got a new top of the range Bosch alternator fitted for £310
VERY DISSATISFIED

2 Clutches in 1 year? SCAM!

Paid £1100 December 22 for a new clutch, clutch gone again December 23, the first clutch we had for 11 years, put the car in before Christmas via the AA, the guy there said it was within the warranty period if it was needing a new clutch, didnt hear another thing until yesterday when we got a message to say that the car was ready and that it will cost another £785 and as it is driver error we wont get another money back.

We had only just finished paying off the last clutch, we have both driven for many years and NEVER had any problems with the clutches in any of the cars we have had, we cant afford to pay this money AGAIN.

I would avoid this company like the plague, I will never darken their door even if it was the last garage left on earth! Thanks D & G Autocare, you cared for the auto but not the customer. I have no faith in any mechanics now

Very poor experience

Hello,

I brought my car in to the Stirling garage on the 18 October 2023 to have my coolant tank replaced, after the inspected this they advised that the flowing work was required:

Coolant flange
Water pipe
Coolant tank
Antifreeze
Grease/cleaners

After agreeing to this work at a high cost of £389.28 we took our car. The same day our car began cutting out completely, no lights and no power at all. We needed to hit the battery so that the car would re-start. Contacted the garage and spoke to James who advised to bring it in again. This was a further costs to us in petrol, public transport and time as the car needed to be left with them. James then contacted us to advise there were no issues that could see, we then took are car away again for the same to happen again. So at more time taken out of our busy day we had to take the car back again and leave it again. Following inspection James advised that the battery cables weren’t connected properly after they had removed it to replace the above works.

We then booked our car in for an MOT on the 15th November 2023, which it failed on a head light and window wiper. At the time of bringing the car in it never had any warning lights on the dash board. James advised we had an advisory on the mot for the exhaust flexi pipe which we agreed to go ahead with the work, this was also expensive at a cost of £466.25, the following work was undertaken:

Aerotwin blade set
Head lamp single
Link pipe exhaust fitting
Exhaust gasket
Bulb
Mot.

Following this work our engine light has come on the dash board. We contacted James again and were advised that they did not do anything that would cause this but to bring it back in. So once again at a cost to us and our time we returned the car to the garage. James advised that he cleared the errors on the computer memory to see if that helped. We took the car away again for the engine light to come on once more. Again we phoned James who advised to bring it in again, as already mentioned each time this has been an additional cost to us. We then returned the car and James put it through the diagnostic test that we had agreed on the phone he would not charge for. After a few hours James then phoned to advise the error was due to a fault with the pressure sensor and advised this would be a cost of £90. When arrived to collect our car James advised he quoted for the wrong part and it was actuate cost of £101.69 which we paid. Then we received the invoice which detailed that we were charged for the diagnostic test at £40, even though it had been agreed that would not be charged. James advised that that would be it fixed and the engine light should not come on again. The next day our engine light has come back on again. Once again we have contacted James to advise the light is on again to be told they were to busy to see the car and would need to bring it in a couple of days time. When we took the car in again James has advised that there is a exhaust leak and it’s needs a smoke blower to find the leak. He assures this is not to do with the work they carried out on the exhaust. James also advised that they do not have this peace of equipment therefore we would need to take the car to another garage. We asked if they could get one and let us know when they could get it, however they have not been back in touch it is now 16th December 2023.

So after all the additional costs to us my car still has its engine light on and we seem to be left to have to take it to another garage and be charged again to resolve the issue that seems to have been caused by your Stirling garage.
