Dreadful experience.
I am 71 years of age. I suffer from high-level obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), a condition that ranks in the top ten most debilitating illnesses by the World Health Organisation. In my case, I have a deep seated fear of dirt and contamination. I also have a spastic bladder, a chronic condition that causes frequent and urgent needs to go to the toilet. I am considered to be a person with hidden disabilities.
The engineer, whom I now know to be Mr. Anthony Howden, arrived at my home to do the necessary work. I immediately informed him of my two serious illnesses, as I always do when people visit my home. I was hoping he would show respect and understanding.
Despite what I had just said, Mr. Howden did not wear shoe covers. This was very uncomfortable for me but given the urgent need to unblock my toilet I said nothing fearing he would walk away. Mr. Howden did not put down any covers to protect carpets on the landing or stairs.
Mr. Howden was at my home for about four hours but was unable to unblock my toilet. He had brought insufficient water and had to replenish his supply from my next door neighbour’s outside water tap, had no camera equipment to inspect the drains for the location of a blockage and no ladders to enable him to attempt to clear any blockage from the top of the stack.
Mr. Howden’s first attempt to unblock my toilet was by using a hand held tool. The toilet was full of excrement. I was annoyed that Mr. Howden walked downstairs holding the tool, which was wet, in a manner that risked the dripping of water from the toilet onto my stair carpet. He could have used a bag to prevent any drips.
Mr. Howden used a machine to try and clear the blockage. When the machine was turned on, water from an uncovered rear pipe of the machine was sprayed onto my walls and stair carpet. In fact some water landed on me as I stood watching from the bottom of the stairs.
This situation was a living nightmare for me. I was very distressed. I felt so dirty and wondered how I would be able to deal with what had happened.
I did not watch Mr. Howden all of the time, and left him to get on with the work. On one occasion I went outside to get some fresh air. On my return to the house, I was shocked to discover that Mr. Howden had, in my absence, entered a part of my home to which he had no reason to go and was not entitled to go. His explanation was that he needed to charge his mobile phone. He therefore trespassed on a part of my property and unlawfully abstracted electricity from my mains supply.
Mr. Howden became very annoyed when I told him that I would not be paying him for his failed attempts to clear the blockage. Outside he shouted to my next door neighbour, Mr. Michael Brooking: “He’s refusing to pay me.” I explained that I was not paying because the contract agreed between Dyno-Rod and me had not been fulfilled.
Mr. Brooking’s wife Michelle then joined the commotion shouting to other neighbours: “He’s had work done and is refusing to pay.” I was near the point of calling the police when Mr. Brooking invited Mr. Howden into his home. Mr. Howden was totally out of order speaking to neighbours about matters that were private and confidential
I needed to urinate very urgently, but Mr. Howden had left his equipment in my bathroom thereby obstructing my access. The bathroom was a complete mess. There were two small covers on the floor but these had been inadequate to prevent the floor becoming badly soiled. I removed all of the items from the bathroom and put them outside.
I thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the walls that were splashed by the machine but I will have to pay a professional carpet cleaner to deep clean the carpet. Living in the house is for the time being extremely uncomfortable for me.
Once the problem was resolved, I noticed that there was damage to the toilet seat and bowl. The damage to the seat is minor but a new toilet bowl is required to complete necessary repairs.
In conclusion I would say that Mr. Howden was unprofessional. He arrived without all of the necessary resources needed to do the job, he damaged the toilet bowl and seat, he totally disregarded my pleas for understanding regarding my OCD and spastic bladder, he entered a part of my home without permission and provoked a commotion in the cul-de-sac where I live, that almost required a request for help from the police.
I later learned that my neighbour Mr. Brooking paid Anthony Howden £140 because [in Mr. Brookings words] “He was going to go for you.”
I sent a letter of complaint to Dyno-Rod in April. Delivery of the letter was confirmed by Royal Mail. I did not receive a reply.
I sent numerous messages via Facebook Messenger and after each message promised someone would be in touch. I was finally called in July and promised a call back in two days. I never received the call.
Dyno-Rod is a truly appalling company.

Property Drains CCTV/Survey
The Dyno-Rod technician's (Scott Clarke) communication and explanation about what works would be carried out, how they would be done, along with what outputs from the survey would be supplied to me, were clear, concise and in plain English with no jargon.
Scott was very knowledgeable about the works being done. He explained the issues he found and fully answered all the questions on the works I asked of him.
Scott was professional, couteous and efficient in his duties throughout his time at my property and very respectful of the latter.
