Best knife set I’ve owned

Best knife set I’ve owned! It’s trendy, and the quality of these is amazing! They are made incredibly well, they look the part, they do the job well! Love them! Definitely worth investing in some if you are thinking of purchasing them

9 piece set with block

I purchased the nine piece set including knife block which I was very excited about. However when arrived the top slot on the block was too narrow and the two larger knives didn’t fit well and even had scratches down the side after removing. I contacted customer services and sent images as they requested. They replied saying quality control do not see any problem. There clearly is a problem. They even said they wouldn’t do a full refund if the packaging wasn’t in tack. You pay a premium price for what you hope and expect a premium product. You also expect the customer service to mirror this, bud it sadly doesn’t!

In response to the below: in my first email to you, within an hour of opening the product I said that there was a fault and I didn’t like the product. You have to open the box to know if the product is up to standard? On your website it states a full refund inc. postage is available for faulty goods? I have sent you numerous images and even a video so I do not understand how I haven’t made this clear? Sorry I don’t agree with your response. James

Sorry to hear this James. There may have been a misunderstanding. You said that you wanted a refund because you did not like the product. Then you said that there was a manufacturing fault but failed to explain what the fault was. We offered to send a free replacement, but you just wanted a refund without paying for sending the product back. If you open the packaging we can not sell the product to someone else. This is why we only permit refunds if the package is unopened. For manufacturing faults we always send free replacements.

PRIMAL snap like twigs

PRIMAL: I've gone through 2 full sets of these because I love their look but not only is the blade fragile (and not that sharp compared to steel) but the knife is not full tang (Where the blade extends into the handle/hilt) so they crack where the blade meets the grip. A lot. I'm not using them strangely either. In fact, I'm quite delicate with them because of how crappy they are. I definitely do not recommend. Extra star for the warranty, which was easy and quick.

UPDATE: I'm not talking about the blades themselves snapping. I understand the nature of ceramic. I'm talking about where the blade meets the handle - they break right at that weak point. And I bet you know what I mean, because there's no way it's not happened on many of these products. It's only a matter of time. And not much of it.

I would gladly buy your steel knives if they are full tang.

Hello Clinton,

Sorry to hear that you were disappointed. Ceramic knives are brittle by nature and need to be treated with care. They have a high hardness 75 HRC, compared to 52-55HRC in a standard steel knife. The high hardness make the blades brittle, but they remain sharp for longer without sharpness. Yes, the initial sharpness is slightly lower than a supersharp steel knife. But a steel knife goes blunt much quicker than a ceramic knife. This is the great advantage. They are not full tang because it would not help in the situation that you mention. If you snap the blade hard to the side it would break at the joint of the handle anyway.

Ceramic knives is not for everyone. If you like to press the blade hard or cut hard fruit, pumpkin or frozen food, they are likely to chip or break. However, if you treat them gently they will last and be sharp for years.

Product has arrived damaged, no response from customer service

Product has arrived damaged; after 5 emails to customer services and 3 tweets over a period of 3 weeks, I am still yet to receive a response.
I haven’t used the product yet so unable to comment. However, given the cost and quality of the product I suspect it would be good; but the customer service is lacking and totally unacceptable.

Disappointing customer service

Some of the knives offered for sale by this company are not actually available in the UK – however, this information is NOT offered to customers until AFTER payment is taken, at which point the company attempts to persuade purchasers to choose a another knife rather than offering a refund. In addition, the customer services team is not very responsive to emails and obtaining a refund already looks as though it will require a protracted effort – if it is possible at all.

UPDATE: EoB saw this review and so I actually got a response. I was told they had not been receiving my emails because they had been piling up in the junk folder. Was fully refunded promptly, which was appreciated, though this doesn't change my view of the ridiculousness of carrying products on their site (which let's face it is not some international portal but actually HAS A BRITISH WEB ADDRESS) which have not been available in the UK for at least 6 months, and which there are apparently no plans at all to resupply.

UPDATE 2: Thanks EoB for the reply below (only five months late, but still...) I appreciate the problems you have with supply but, given that you do run a British web site, I really don't see why you can't just list products available in the UK on that site. And have another site for people in the US who want to buy stuff that is only available in the US.

Finally, and apologies if this seems mean-spirited, but it is entirely in line with the disappointing customer service received that you have somehow decided that I wanted to order a Black Diamond Knife Block. Not true. I was trying to order a Kuroi Hana chef's knife.

Hello M Dash,

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed about us running out of certain stock in the UK. Yes, we have a UK address, but we have multiple warehouse locations outside Europe.

We use Shopify but we have not been able to adjust the quantity available in multiple jurisdictions. This is why you were able to buy the product. We have plenty of stock in the USA, but none left in Europe.

There are plans to resupply the Black Diamond. It is our most popular knife block. It will be back in stock in July 2020.

Appalling customer service

Appalling customer service. I ordered two knives, which appeared as “in stock” on their website. It transpires that one of these is not in stock. I have received two emails asking me to choose a product of equivalent value. I have sent three emails to the company, asking to clarify whether certain products are available and for someone to call me to discuss, as I don’t want knives from different collections. I am yet to receive a reply to any of my emails (sent over c 2 weeks). There is no phone number. They have taken full payment (3 weeks ago) and have not delivered the knife that is in stock.

Kuroi Hana are THE worst knives I've…

Kuroi Hana are THE worst knives I've ever had the misfortune of using. The blades are all chipped and they've only ever been used to chop food and only sharpened with the tool received along with the knives. The tip of one broke off the first time it was washed and put on the drainer. Do not waste your money, I've had better from Littlewoods catalogue!
I would have scored them 0 but it's not an option.

I’m no expert on knives so bought these…

I’m no expert on knives so bought these purely based on how good they look. Apart from being stunning they actually are amazing knives and give me that wow factor every time I use them. Not only that but the company have been really interactive on social media making me feel like a valued customer and I’d happily recommend them to anyone aswell as purchasing another set later this year as a gift.

Good Service

Can’t complain about the service. Kept informed and quick service. Packaged well, if a bit too well perhaps.

Chipping and handles fall off

I was given a set of ceramic knives for a present which were very expensive to buy however in less than 2 years, the handles either dropped off or the blades chipped. At the time of first complaint it was only two of the 5 that it had happened to so I was kindly sent two new ones out however the other 3 have since done the same. When I complained about other 3, I was told by customer services that I could get a replacement set sent out however on discussion with manager he advise as I had two new ones (out of the 5), that they would not replace them. I hadn’t even used the two new ones at that point and they didn’t offer to send those back and give me a new set of 5. Surely they should take all of the 5 back which are all faulty/not fit for purpose and give me a whole new set of different type from their range for free and not just 2 of the same ones which are likely to do the same!! Ive never had a single issue of knives ‘chipping’ in past with any other brand and they have lasted for years and years. How can such an expensive set of knives be so badly made that they chip so easily and handles fall off which are just glued. One word of advise - avoid purchasing the ceramic ones as they are not hardy at all. Luckily they were a present and I didn’t pay out for them myself. But still annoying as have to replace myself from elsewhere
