Our son just returned from his EF Tour to Japan, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. As a parent, sending your child across the world is a little nerve-racking, but EF made the process smooth and organized from start to finish. Every day he sent us pictures and updates, and it was amazing to watch him experience Japan's history, culture, nature, and cities. The itinerary was well planned, and he came home with memories he'll carry for the rest of his life. More importantly, he returned more confident, independent, and with a greater appreciation for the world around him. We truly believe this trip helped him grow in ways that can't be taught in a classroom. Thank you to EF Tours, chaperones, and everyone who made this opportunity possible. We would absolutely recommend EF to other families considering an educational trip. It was worth every penny.

Outstanding job
It was great, other than a few issues I had an amazing time and did not regret it at all. The photos and souvenirs are all absolutely wonderful and definitely memorable.

The tour had just enough structure and free time. The tour guide was exceptional!
Mediocre at best rushed tour with so so food
Just like the magazines :) Quality itinerary - always active, good variety (slower -paced in Kyoto and Osaka; fast-paced in Yokohama and Tokyo). June is the rainy season and it did not disappoint - umbrellas are cheap to buy and available everywhere. Keep in mind that Mt. Fuji is particularly elusive to view during the month of June. Food variety could be improved. However, we had 3 or 4 cashout dinners and this helps. First hotel was just ok. Second hotel was quite nice. Tour directors were great. Shout out to Chikako and Shigeki. Hot Tip: include the optional karaoke night. This evening was dreaded by more than a few of my travelers. And the experience proved to be a top 3 experience for nearly everyone on the trip (75 strong). So fun that we extended our karaoke time by 2 hours for the entire group. Everyone had a blast!
Japan trip. I think some trips' experience depends on local culture. I was very onboard with Japan as I have had family that have visited and lived in Japan. Going in to this, from relatives that have lived in Japan and my own reading of world affairs. Japan is regarded as a safe country (not blind about travel, but overall, with regular travel precautions).Safe, clean, organized, polite, etc. All of those attributes played in to the trip experience. Trip and tour experiences were as described. My daughter went on the trip. She had a great time. I understood all the safety and precautions that the chaperones and tour leader, Nicole, had in place and felt comfortable with. Daughter said the Japan tour guide with EF Tours, Naomi was excellent. One caution I would give, EF Tours has a long lead time to get everyone on board with signing up for a trip and they do use some marketing tools to ease parents, I think. Sales pitch - your offspring can participate in fund raisers and have family gift money added to their EFTours account to help offset the costs. Go in to this knowing that all good, kids learn some fundraising skills and such, but, there will never be enough of any of that to come close to covering any significant portion of this kind of trip, in the $5 to $6 k range. We were a back up sign in for someone that dropped out so missed many months of the fundraising rigmarole, I am ok with that, majority of work usually goes to the parents anyway. Like girl scout cookie sales😩. I feel fortunate that we were able to afford the trip for our daughter. The pace of the trip, I imagine all their trips, is quite rigorous. Like 10000 to 12000 steps per day, on many days. So I am glad she had the opportunity to do this with a group that I felt trust in as I would have not been able to match or keep up with this type of tour, personally. But they are young so do it now, if you can afford to make it work for them to do so. Even thought the trip had a hefty cost--I would think for many. It was hefty for our family, but I feel the value of that cost was worth it, based on their accomodations and itinerary. Factoring in we were able to swing it financially and this type of trip is kind of a once in a lifetime type trip. Going back to my fist bit on this review, as the tour was Japan, there is cultural commitment with schedules and timelines. Tour guide on time, bullet train on time, scheduled attractions, bus, etc. That helps a lot to manage expectations.
My daughter fell in love with Japan is planning on going again!
Awesome experience for my son. I would highly recommend it to parents.
The mix of shrines and temples with modern sightseeing and shopping made this a memorable visit to Japan.
