Brilliant remote plug sockets e brilliant…

These remote plug sockets are brilliant for sockets that are hard to get to after a certain age. The range of the remote is good too. I have a plug socket under the sink for my washer and this plug is brilliant. I also have a 4 plug adaptor in one too.

Remote Socket - Poor quality

Had one of the remote sockets, the remote stopped working after very little use and less than a year old, I contacted support who stopped responding because I couldn't provide the receipt of purchase, despite explaining that it was fitted by the builder for our media wall.
Poor quality, didn't last a year!

Balanced & Constructive

Energenie's smart heating system works well, and I appreciate the ability to control temperatures remotely. It's definitely helped deduce my energy usage, and when it works, it's great! However, I did have some difficulty with the initial setup, and I wish there were a bit more guidance for first-time users. Once everything was up and running, it's been very reliable, but the learning curve could be improved. Still, it's good system for those looking to smarten up their heating.

Dangerous product (power monitor) & they don't care.

Customer service do reply & have been kind of helpful.
My plug in style power monitor is showing signs of melting and catching fire on its side, & despite confirming it's an internal battery that's malfunctioned, they are unwilling to replace it unless it's under 1 yr old. Not great service considering lives could be at risk & I've not used it much since purchase under 2 years ago. Dissapointing considering lives could be at risk & it's not a big ask for a safe & working exchange. Stingy attitude to such a serious issue with their product. Website should have a warning about this too if it's a known issue imo.

Absolutely love my Energenie smart…

Absolutely love my Energenie smart plugs! They work flawlessly, and setup was a breeze. I was a little worried after seeing some mixed reviews, but my experience has been nothing but positive. The technology is reliable, and the system integrates smoothly with my home automation setup. Highly recommend—I'm already planning to expand y system!

Gives Smart Home tech a bad name

We have six of their TRVs, a gateway and a CT clamp: not one of them works properly. The don’t connect; they report fictional data and they simply do not do their job. Multiple replacements have made no difference. This company’s products are to be avoided.

Utterly useless

Utterly useless. The plug doesn’t alert on power failure, and when the power comes back on the plug has reset. Avoid.

Dont buy Energenie - energy saving plugs

Bought the energenie plugs and they didnt last long before they stopped operating as they should have. the light on the plugs go on and off, but they dont turn the appliance on/off when it does so. Contacted support but as out of 12 months, would not replace and was told to bang the plugs as it may have seized. Dont buy as they do not last long as not made properly and 'energy saved' wont even cover the cost of the plugs - waste of money.

Terrible Customer Service.

I have used Enegenie products for a number of years and have been very happy with them. However, when I had an issue with a remote, I asked for a phone number so that I could speak to a human being rather than they usual robot online. I received a reply to say they do not give telephone support. I find this amazing that a company must be so inundated with customers with problems, they are unable to cope with phone calls, or simply can't be bothered to talk to their customers.

MiHome remote monitoring + 30 min count down review

MiHome:

Had some MiHome components for a while now too, so this is my experience of using them for remote monitoring of particular circuits or appliances.

Very easy to set up and reasonably cheap. You just buy a little hub unit that plugs in your router, and whatever flavours of monitor you need, which connect wirelessly back to the hub through a simple pairing process. There are no ongoing charges. One variant of the monitor allows you turn power on/off remotely too.

We have a flat we rent out, so we have a clamp-on (battery operated) monitor on the main output from the Smartmeter to monitor general power usage in the property remotely. Because the hot water pressure is low in the flat, there is a booster pump for the hot - so we have the flow-switch operated pump plugged into a plug-in monitor too so we can check and see if is working. The Smartmeter is a 5 terminal one with immersion and storage heater on Economy 7 so I plan to pop another clamp-on monitor on that output so we can check whether everything is OK on the E7 side.

This begs the question whether the product could potentially be used as a cheap/crude form of unobtrusive remote check for (say) an elderly relative, and I would say potentially yes with some limitations. The Smartphone app is quite limited, but the web portal has a detailed graph of the last hour for each monitor - so if a monitor was put on (for example) a kettle, you would clearly see the kettle being turned on so long as you were looking within the last hour of it being turned on/off. Beyond an hour, you see averages which are less clear/granular. In our case, we have noticed that it is actually quite clear there is activity in our flat because the booster pump operates every time any of the hot water taps are turned on. Because most of the heating/water is on a separate E7 circuit, the general power consumption in the flat (with the exception of the fridge) is nearly all down to the use by the occupant too.

It would be great enhancement to the product if the company made the detailed monitoring window longer than just an hour, AND added the graph to their app.

We were initially concerned at whether the clamp-on monitors would go through batteries, but they seem to last several months and the voltage level is reported so you can see when the batteries are likely to need changing. Battery compartment lid is a pain to get off though!

30 Minute run down timer:

Had one of their simple 30 minute run down timers for some years now. I got it originally for the soldering iron on my workbench so I didn't accidentally leave it on - but it has found a more recent use in the hot weather for a fan in our bedroom to turn it off so its not running all night.

Products do not work!

I have invested fairly heavily in Energenie products over the last few months. I ordered the smart hub, an electricity monitor and several of the companies electricity monitor plugs. Unfortunately my experience to date has not been good!

After installing all the devices i noticed that the electricity monitor MIH0006 was over reading my electricity by more than double. I contacted the company who advised that the unit must be faulty. To cut a long story short the retailer whom i purchased the device from was beyond useless and refused to help. Contacting Energenie they did their best to help, the process was slow but they agreed to send me another clamp monitor. Unfortunately this failed to accurately record my electricity usage either. My meter is a SMETS 2 meter but has never worked with my IHD hence why i wanted this device. Comparing my usage to the SMETS meter display outside the MIH0006 was again reading over twice the amount of electricity flow. I also purchased 15 MIH0004 monitor plugs, whilst these seem to be accurate in their electricity usage readings the app is reporting the wrong usage costs even though i have manually input my electricity unit rate per KWH. Strangely when i log on to the web portal the costs are accurate, so clearly there is a big issue with the app. I have again raised this with the company but i have had no updates from them re what they are doing about this.

Overall the whole ecosystem is poor, i appreciate that the company sent me a new MIH0006 under warranty, but equally is is very frustrating that a setup that has cost me a large amount of money is failing to work as advertised. I initially thought the customer service was fairly good, however they have provided me with no updates so now i am not so sure.

As a result of my experience with this brand i can not recommend their products to anyone - i would not want anyone else to invest a lot of money like i have in this brand, only to then discover that none of the products work correctly. I feel like i have just wasted over £250 on items which are all clearly faulty.

Support is severely lacking

Support is severely lacking, wish I had checked the trustpilot reviews before investing in this hardware.
I bought the starter kit from Screwfix with three plug sockets and the mihome gateway, the unit had been used previously so it was linked to another person's account. Support told me to send a pic of the underside of the gateway validate ownership allowing them to remove the unit from their servers. 24 hours later and still waiting on the fix so I'm going to get a full refund from Screwfix tomorrow.
Really annoyed as I've wasted several hours trying to resolve the issue myself before going to support. Not sure why this company can't get its act together as I've had no issues with my hive or hue installations and devices.
Smart home technology should be plug and play, I'm an experienced tech guy and this was the most frustrating experience with smart home technology I've had to date.
Also, this hardware isn't cheap so the lack of responsive support doesn't make sense.

No responsive technical support, buy something else

The two buildings that make up our community centre use Energenie products and MiHome4u to control the heating with which we're constantly having problems.

There is no telephone number to contact technical support and despite many requests for them to ring me they just email instead so instead of having a 10 minute conversation that could resolve so much, I'm currently in a 4 week email discussion that hasn't made any progress.

The trustees have agreed that I can rip it all out and replace it with products from a supplier that actually gives technical support, even if it's going to cost more as it will save time in the long run.

I'm a trustee but also a professional electrician and often asked by my customers to install smart or home automation systems. I will never be recommending these.

It worked by remote sometimes,
The laptop charger socket never switched off, I would constantly have to reset the unit but now it won't do anything and I'm nervous that it could catch fire so I unplug it every time I use it. Next stop the recycling bin. Chinese rubbish.
