Very bad experience - trying to sell a car which they admit should not have passed inspection, and then refusing to fix faults which they acknowledged were present.
We arranged to view a Qashqai after work one evening. Tight for time, we only had a short test drive, but it went well and I put a reserve on the car so I could come back and inspect properly. They requested I return before the weekend as the salesman wasn't working at the weekend. It meant using some annual leave from work, but I agreed. I arrived Friday afternoon and began giving the car a good look over. First thing I immediately noticed was that the undertrays were missing from the car. That was actually forunate as it meant I was able to see there were clearly two seperate oil leaks - one from the engine timing chain cover, and another from the transmission drain. This car should never have passed inspection, but I had been repeatedly assured it was inspected and ready to go. One of the mechanics at the dealership took the car in to the garage to check it over and admitted it should have been spotted and fixed. The transmission drain plug was left loose and so retightened, but the timing chain cover would need some garage time to be resealed. I left frustrated and without the car, but assured the problems would be resolved as a priority. By Tuesday afternoon, I hadn't heard anything yet so I chased it up. Apparently they must have been very busy as the job hadn't even been assigned to anyone yet. Later that afternoon, I had another phone call to say that it is a common problem and they would not be fixing it - i.e, they couldn't be bothered fitting it in and fixing it, and the car would be sold like that. Obviously I didn't want to pay good money for a leaky car and that attitude left me doubtful of satisfactory customer aftercare, so I pulled out of the deal.
A waste of two near 3 hour round trips, a day of annual leave, and I am still awaiting my reserve to be refunded! Beware, and please thoroughly check over any vehicle you plan to buy from this dealership. They have lied about inspections and were (and still are!) intending to sell a vehicle with known issues.
I have raised a complaint with head office but they have not responded.
UPDATE: I followed up on the reply below from Evans Halshaw with an email to the address they provided. As I suspected, this reply was merely to keep up their false facade of actually giving a damn as my email was completely ignored, again. I did finally manage to get my refund, although it took a total of 3 emails and 3 phone calls over the course of 10 days to do so. What an absolute shambles.

I recently visited Evans Halshaw Preston to look at a Ford Kuga ST Line. My experience was not very good at all. When I got there the salesman could not remember my name even though I phoned the day before to arrange a viewing of the car. He made a rude remark about us arriving late even though we told him we were travelling from Yorkshire. We had a look at the car and he came across like he could not be bothered. I mentioned that I had found a recall on the car through the GOV.UK website when I entered the REG NO (PJ22 YGG). It seemed I caught him off guard, he was disinterested and went back into the office. 5 minutes later he came out and said he couldn't sell me the car because there are 3 faults with it. He didn't even ask if the faults were fixed would I still want to do a deal which I would have been open to. Also, I have noticed the car is still available to buy on their website and still has no mention of the faults. I can only assume that they are probably hoping to sell to someone who is not in the know. I have never felt so undervalued as a customer ever. Unprofessional. Bad customer service. Avoid.

I bought a Ford Focus from the Ford Preston branch yesterday (14/8/25) and within minutes of driving out of the dealership (without being offered a test drive or run though of the basic features of the car) I noticed the air conditioning was still blowing hot air. I took it back and they "recharged" it but said it was a faulty part. I live in Glasgow so couldn't leave it with them so had to drive 3 hours with it, having been told "take it to your nearest Evans Halshaw Ford, or any Ford as its still under manufacturer's warranty, and also "no car is perfect is it?". Given i wasn't offered a test drive or a run through, it leads me to believe they knew about it. I wouldn't take a car for free off of them.

Just a very easy experience. Service MOT with courtesy car completed by lunch time.

Absolutely awful. Made SIX payments on this car while it has been with them in their garage being fixed or waiting for parts. Bought the Mach E brand new. Customer service doesn’t respond. Waiting weeks for anyone to reply. Avoid ford like the plague and stay away from Evan’s halshaw Preston

I’ve visited this dealership a couple of times. I didn’t leave a review the first time as I thought my bad experience might have been a one-off, but sadly not.
I visited to look at a new vehicle and was told I could only do a test drive on a weekday between 9-5pm; I also asked to see the showroom vehicle “on” as it was an EV- I was told they wouldn’t charge it. I left and went to the Wigan dealership and the difference in customer experience was incomparable.
I recently took my car in to the Preston for a warranty check. After 7 hours and no call, I rang them to be told their system was down; my car had not moved from where I left it and nobody had even done a mechanical check of the issue. I went back to the garage to get my vehicle, and I asked for this mechanical check to be done. This was clearly a burden for the mechanic who reluctantly ran the check.
Customer experience is extremely poor and dealing with this garage is hugely time consuming and frustrating. Avoid

Very disappointing! I live 60 miles away so phoned up the day before to clarify the condition of the 2 year old car and informed only 2 or 3 pinhead sized chips on the bonnet. When I arrived the following day having taken 2.5 hrs to get there on the train it was obvious the sales guy hadn’t done a proper check of the car as other very obvious scuffs and scratches around the car. There was no apology from either the sales guy or his manager for my wasted journey, just an excuse that it was raining when I phoned so only had a quick look. I wouldn’t go anywhere near this place, very unprofessional!

The purchase of a vehicle went reasonably well, there was some concerns that the vehicles being viewed weren't ready and needed a lot more attention than you'd expect from a large dealer. Since exchanging a trade in vehicle the service has been terrible. Poor communication and even the complaints team are yet to respond 7 days after a submission online. Poor advice on how the DVLA deal with trade taking on a vehicle, and a devious £99 deposit for paper work now seems almost impossible to get back. Not a company I would look to use again in the future. The saga of getting my own money back continues.

I recently put a deposit down on a Tesla, and after some back and forth to work out details and transiting the vehicle to us, they sent over the agreement.
I was initially upset they wouldn't allow me to use a finance company of my own choosing and were forcing me to use a lender with APR more than 4% above the current standard rate.
On Tuesday 16th I was asked for verbal confirmation that I was ready to go ahead, on Wednesday 17th I gave this confirmation and signed a commission disclosure then proceeded with discussing delivery fees. I decided to take the weekend to consider the fees and options, perhaps collection etc.
On Monday morning I was disgusted to hear the had sold the car over the weekend!
Despite me having paid a deposit, and signing an agreement - they sold the car anyways. No text to check, or notify me, no call. They sold it and didn't tell me until I first contacted them to make arrangements.
Further compounding the issue, James the Business manager refused culpability and dismissed my complaint. Upon phoning in, I eventually got through to the Sales Manager, Joe who accepted they were at fault but flatly told me they wouldn't do anything to compensate me for this treatment.
He said they could provide another car, but if the payments were higher, I would need to suck it up. If I'm out of pocket, they will do nothing.
Appalling customer service.

I never normally go to the internet to write negative reviews but I feel I'm at my wits end. Evans Halshaw were very attentive when I was purchasing a prestige car from them 18 months ago but I've had a totally different experience trying to resolve a knocking noise I reported a couple of weeks after delivery. In the past 18 months they have reportedly 'fixed' it several times only for me to drive it off the forecourt and hear the same noise immediately. I have faced endless broken promises, repeated failures to call me back, my time wasted and even aggression from one of the engineers. Today I was asked to bring my car in as a Ford field engineer was booked to look at it, only to find the customer service representative had no knowledge of that. A dreadful customer experience which has left me extremely frustrated, driving a prestige car that sounds like a bag of spanners.

Purchased a second hand car in February, two years old. It was a very frustrating experience and disappointing as buying a car new to me should be an exciting, enjoyable experience, after all it probably comes second after buying a home with regard to expense.
Initial discussions with the salesman were good and encouraging. A test drive showed low fuel and paperwork that should have been signed off when returning the vehicle was not completed and had to be emailed to me to be signed. This probably seems nothing to most but was the start of a downward spiral.
After agreeing to purchase the car there was a catalogue of issues which individually may seem insignificant but put together did not instill you with confidence and therefore I would not buy from them again or indeed recommend them to family of friends.
I had problems making the payment due to the wrong information being given by the salesman and on the paperwork. The car was not handed over by the salesman even though I was assured he would be dealing with the handover personally.
When picking up the vehicle it had not been valeted even though they had days to do it. I specifically asked if the car had been serviced as it would be two years old within a couple of weeks and was clearly told it had been done. The Ford App which is the be all of everything was substandard and did’nt tell you all about the car specification and its service history as informed. It may do with brand new models but you need to browse the web to find out anything with less recent models and my service history showed no service history at all.
It’s taken weeks to get it updated accordingly and the service was a pre sales one and not the 18000 mile or two year service of which I had been advised. I feel like I have been misled and had to get Ford head office involved but because it is a franchise and a sales matter I had to go back to them.
Not impressed and fell well below my expectations.
Finally the one positive note of this saga is that I do love the car, my Ford Puma. Going forward I will be taking it to Chorley for servicing and maintenance as the operation there is a breath of fresh air in comparison as they finally sorted out the necessary record for me.

bad communication between departments and to the customer lack of answering the phones and a lot of commuting back and forward to the garage to get things fixed on a newly sold car that i was informed had been thoroughly checked before purchase and pick up date
