My Peugeot Partner van had a safety recall directly from Peugeot. Due to the particular fault my van had already broken down. Peugeot customer care advised me to take the van to the nearest Peugeot main dealer, which is York. Because the van was undriveable, I needed to pay for a recovery truck to transport it the 40 miles to York.
The dealership accepted the van, but said the they didn't accept the recall criteria, and I would need to pay for the work myself. After many long hours spent on the phone, and via email, I received authorisation for the work to be carried out under special warranty.
4 long months later, I received a call to ask me to collect the van, and that all of the work was complete. They said the van had been test driven, and signed off after a full engine rebuild.
I went to the Dealership to collect it on Wednesday 12th August (I had been without my van for a actual total of 10 months which has caused me great expense, and distress). I picked it up, and drove it down the road, only to notice that the engine service light was on. I immediately turned back, and asked the service manager Rowen to investigate the problem, only to be told that the van needs a service!!! How can this be possible when the engine has been rebuilt?
I asked Rowen to take the van back into the workshop, and get the light removed, to which he replied, we cant do that because the van needs a service, which will be chargeable. I also asked him to let me know what exactly the service consisted of? He replied, an oil change, oil filter etc., which according to the invoice I received for the rebuild, had already been completed.
Rowen refused to help or acknowledge how ridiculous this situation was, and I feel like the Dealership were 'rubbing salt into the wounds'. I asked to speak to his Manager to discuss the situation but of course nobody was available.
As an electrical contractor, I have probably run 10 Peugeot / Citroen commercial vehicles over the years, and I have never experienced customer care this poor, and it will definitely influence my future van purchases.
DEALER PRINCIPAL: JONATHON WHITEHEAD - I would appreciate your comments.

My initial experience buying my Corsa in 2024 was great. However in June 2026 I had a tyre blow out on the a64, when trying to replace the tyre at the roadside we realised the spare tyre sold with the vehicle was incorrect for my car. We had an emergency call out repair and called Vauxhall the next day. We spoke to the manager Aaron who said there was no evidence of them selling the tyre with the car. We provided evidence the same week and have had no contact since (the incident was the 8th June). 8 plus emails completely ignored. When we have managed to get through the manager Aaron, he has said he is waiting on someone else and no further update. I have since logged with the ombudsman as the service and lack of response is appalling. I will not purchase another vehicle through them.

I received a recall notice from Vauxhall, dated 4 June 2026, for the Takata airbag, recall code KBM. I followed the instructions to register on the Vauxhall site and then phoned Evans Halshaw (hereafter abbreviated to EH) Vauxhall York on 01904 937467.
The recorded message said that there was no need to book for the airbag recall but the customer should just turn up and the work would be carried out as a while-you-wait.
I then drove to EH in early June (I did not record the exact date). At that time, the Vauxhall building was where it now says EH MG. Contrary to the telephone message, the receptionist told me I would have to book and that the airbag had to be specially ordered. She said they would phone me when it arrived.
A few weeks later, they phoned and said the airbag had arrived but they were very busy and needed to make an appointment a little while ahead. They made the appointment for 29 July 2026 at 12.30.
21st July, I received a text saying EH MG York was no longer a Vauxhall dealer, my 29 July appointment would be cancelled and I should ring 01904 698152 to rebook at a Vauxhall dealer. I checked online to find that this number was EH Citroen. But I called it. The call diverted a few times before eventually being answered so I do not know exactly which branch of EH I was talking to. They told me the appointment had been rebooked and was still for 29 July at 12.30. I asked where I should go. Was it EH Citroen. They said it was EH Vauxhall.
27 July, I received a text asking me to confirm my booking for 29 July and giving me a link to do that. I filled in the linked form.
29 July, I drove to EH Vauxhall York and arrived around 12.00 for my 12.30 appointment. The receptionist (Kerry, who did a great job in very frustrating circumstances) told me there was no record of the appointment on the system. I could either leave the car there all day or make another appointment. She made a new appointment for 4th August at 10.30. I immediately got a text confirming the booking but with no details.
On Saturday 1 August, I got an email from EH MG asking me to check in online for the 4 August appointment. This was confusing and made me expect the whole thing would be cancelled again. I did not click the link at that time.
On Sunday 2 August, I got a text asking me to confirm online. This time, I clicked the link and then the link saying how it worked. That said it was fine to decline to check in online and check in at reception, so that is what I did.
4 August, I arrived at 10.00, expecting to be turned away again. Kerry found the appointment but said the workshop was very busy and could not tell me exactly how long it would take. She would call me when it was done. I went out for a short walk and returned just before 11.30. Shortly after that, she saw me and told me the work had been completed. That was a relief as I was expecting to be told there was a problem.
I was also given the invoice (invoicing Vauxhall) confirming that the work had been done.
So, eventually, the work was completed but the process leading up to it was a frustrating and confusing sequence of instructions, bookings, cancellations and re-bookings. This was despite the polite, friendly and professional conduct of Kerry, who did her best to help.
On the basis of my experience, I would never book paid servicing at EH and would certainly never buy a vehicle from EH.
EH needs to fix its booking system so that bookings made are actually honoured. It needs to fix its telephone system so that calls are not diverted all round the various franchises with the customer not knowing where the call ends up. EH needs to schedule the workshops so that customers can be given a reliable estimate of how long work will take. And the car parking should be sorted out so that customers actually have somewhere to park the vehicle on arrival. Over-scheduling appointments so that the customer parking is completely full is not acceptable. There are also no signs to customer parking and I had to speak to someone to confirm I had tried in the right place.
It appears that EH is run for the convenience of EH and customers just have to put up with a very inferior service.

Buying a car from Evans Halshaw York was hell from beginning to end. I bought a Vauxhall Grandland 1.6 PHEV Ultimate on 6 June 2026, and there was a fault with the car. The earliest appointment they could offer me to look at it was a month later — by which point it was already past my short-term right to reject.
I rejected the car on 3 July, as was my legal right under Section 20 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I complained directly to the company and they became non-responsive. I chased Christopher Adamson, Aaron Harris, and Sean Millard — none of them replied. I also raised a ticket with Lithia (537913846), who state they'll respond within 48 hours. That deadline passed with zero contact.
Do not buy a car from Evans Halshaw York. Once you've handed over your deposit and picked up the car, they will go against your statutory and legal right to return it, and they will drag things out hoping you give up and stop responding.
Do not give up. I've now filed a Section 75 claim with my bank, and the Motor Ombudsman has accepted my case for investigation.
Do not buy a car from Evans Halshaw York. They do not care about you as a consumer.
I also took out a Tyre & Alloy Cover policy through Evans Halshaw York at the same time, and independently asked for it to be cancelled. They are now refusing to cancel it. Do not take out any finance with them through Payment Assist or Bumper — you cannot cancel these independently, you need permission from Evans Halshaw York itself. This just lets them hold onto their commission. Note pendragon Evans hawlshaw are not apart of the motor obidsman but NCS contact them if they become unreaponsive national conciliations ervice
Update #2
Since receiving the response for lack of communication, guess what? Even more lack of communication.
Not only are they benefiting from the refund of the tire and alloy cover, which they have had since the August 1st (which is illegal), and refusing to inform Payassist, the loan company, of the refund, they continue to remain silent. Meanwhile, they are attempting to tank my credit file. I'm waiting for eight weeks to pass so I can take them to the Financial Ombudsman for this specific complaint because of the stress they have caused me and the thousands I have now spent on hire vehicles.
