Extremely Disappointed – Misleading Contract & Rude Staff

I joined Gold Gym in Hounslow in August 2024 along with two others. We were offered a promotion of 2 free months, which I never asked for — it was something they voluntarily added. At the time of joining, I was told very clearly that it was a 12-month contract, which I accepted.

Now, after completing 12 months, I went in on 7th August 2025 to cancel my membership, only to be told that I still have to make 2 more payments — because apparently, the 2 free months don’t count as part of the contract. This was never communicated upfront. If their so-called “12-month contract” actually means 14 months due to the promotion, that should have been clearly stated at the time of sign-up.

When I questioned this, the receptionist was incredibly rude and dismissive, even asking why I referred my friends — when it was actually their colleague who offered a referral bonus during our registration. On top of that, she asked why I didn’t cancel my membership back in April — which makes absolutely no sense, since I was still within the 12-month period.

This is completely misleading and feels like false advertising. Instead of a promotion, it's just a trap to tie customers in for longer. If a promotion comes with extra months of commitment, then just be honest and mention it upfront.

As for the gym itself — it’s small and overcrowded, and the pool smells heavily of chlorine. I only stayed because I was locked into the contract, and now I’ve been forced to stay even longer due to a clause that was never explained.

Would I recommend this place? Absolutely not. Avoid Gold Gym Hounslow at all costs — terrible customer service, rude staff, and shady contract practices.

Horrible gym

Horrible gym. Aggressive sms sending to all people in Vancouver by hundred of different numbers. I get 10 sms per week and have already blocked near 100 numbers. Disgusting

Disgusting Abusive customers and staff

I experienced constant repeated swearing and nearly physically assaulted, locker broken into, and staff maintained the message that they would not be terminating the contract because this does not occur in front of cameras, and kept asking me to push the emergency buzzer to call for help (which arrives, but delayed). Disgusting customers and staff.

Poorly run and maintained gym

Poorly run and maintained gym. Equipment is limited and not the best also if any of the equipment breaks you can guarantee it will be out of use for weeks, there is only one smith’s machine and has been out of use for at least a month, if they have a maintenance contract they don’t use it

Be careful when you signing a contract…

Be careful when you signing a contract with these guys. They have malicious practice of accepting only utility bills if you are changing your address and try to cancel your membership. For some funny reason they don't accept bank statesment or driving license. If you are private tenant like me (who dont't pay bills) you might be in trouble with them. When asked them to reason their decision of not honour my prove of new address they keep copy and paste their T&Cs which leads to nowhere. I will be escalating this now to small court claims. Avoid is the best thing you can do!

Disability discrimination

I have never been so heartbroken. Myself and my daughter have always been members of a gym. I'm a qualified PT and she is always safe. We just visited Golds gym and disclosed her epilepsy before we were shown around, we were told it wouldn't be a problem. We decided to join and sat and filled in the forms, we were about to complete when the guy behind the reception started openly talking about my daughter in front of us, I heard his colleague say it's fine I have two friends with it. Long story short they wouldn't let her join because she has epilepsy! I'm beyond angry that I've witnessed my daughter be discriminated against, due to her disability. Never will I visit that place again. If I could give 0 stars I would

Very rude staff, all the inconvenience is there once I got Ticket while I was inside the gym and parked my car in their parking, I have Membership, I supposed to enter my Car Reg number but their machine was broken. I did the gym and came out finding out that I got a ticket. I asked them to contact their parking management team and let them know that your machine was broken and I was inside the gym. They could check easily from my membership card or the cctv that I was there, still they didn’t help me, and I had to pay that, very unhelpful and annoying staff. When you go to get the membership they are very sweet and will say everything will be fine, yeah yeah we’ll help you this and that, and right after you got the membership they turn to evils.

Frustrating!!

GOLDS GYM HOUNSLOW To be avoided! Your message system doesn't work consistently to let members know that a class has been cancelled - and that happens regularly! There is always something broken/out of service. Some receptionists have no clue how to work for the public. After over 15 years of on/off membership, I accept this gym will never improve. I won't be back if it is free, never mind paying! I will not recommend to anyone either!

Golds gym Dagenham - Very disrespectful staff!

I recently visited Gold’s Gym on a day pass and, unfortunately, had a very unpleasant experience with a staff member named Rafia Amjad at the reception. From the moment I arrived, her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional. I initially asked for a day pass, which she refused, claiming that it’s only available if accompanied by a current member. While I understand and respect gym policies, her manner of communication was unnecessarily rude.

I returned shortly after with a friend who’s a paying member, meeting the policy requirements. Instead of handling the situation professionally, Rafia seemed visibly irritated, stared at me for an uncomfortable amount of time, and even laughed sarcastically before reluctantly issuing the day pass.

To make matters worse, when I asked to pay for a locker key—a service I was more than willing to pay for—she flatly refused, stating that I wasn’t eligible because I’m not a member. This contradicts what I understand about the gym’s locker policy, and her dismissive attitude throughout the interaction left a very negative impression.

I was genuinely considering joining Gold’s Gym as a full-time member, but this experience has seriously put me off. Customer service is key, especially in a fitness environment where people expect professionalism and respect. I hope management addresses this issue so future visitors aren’t discouraged in the same way.
