Green & Black’s was founded on the Portobello Road by husband and wife team Craig Sams & Jo Fairley. In 1991 Craig was sent a sample of chocolate by a peanut supplier. Lifetime chocoholic Jo later discovered the chocolate unattended and promptly ate it. She’d never tasted anything quite like it and was sure other chocolate fanatics would feel the same! And with that, the couple began making delicious chocolate

What happened G&B?

So disappointing to see that the once loved Green and Blacks have changed the quality and ingredients of this product. It used to be a firmly loved favourite in our household. We will vote with our feet as we always do!

Have been a fan of G&B 70% for many years & sadly the quality has gone downhill rapidly. There is no hit of cocoa anymore & it tastes synthetic & waxy, almost with a hint of ginger?? Such a shame G&B is no longer a quality brand. I will be looking elsewhere :(

Green and Blacks Cocoa does not label allergens!!

I recently bought a tin of Green and Blacks organic  cocoa.  The only allergen labelled in milk.  My son has serious food allergies so my husband phoned the company to double check.  He was informed that the product may contain traces of nuts, soya and gluten.  My son has a serious allergy to nuts and soya.  I believe this breaks trading standard rules and is, moreover, a threat to life.

Green and Blacks 'Smooth Dark'

I just tried Green and Blacks 'Smooth Dark'. It's their 50% cocoa version. I was very disappointed. It tastes how I remember Bournville tasting. Too sweet to the point of ruining the cocoa taste. I'm shocked that I preferred a supermarket brand version of the same type (dark milk).
I'm so saddened by the fall of this chocolate. I remember when Green and Blacks was synonymous with quality chocolate. Now it has fallen the way of most of our great British chocolate. It tastes cheap and unimpressive.

What has happened to Green & Blacks…

What has happened to Green & Blacks Organic Tasting Collection. The tablets have got smaller the large dark chocolate has disappeared replaced by a bit of plastic and the money saved has gone into packaging with 3cm of the box full of air. Instead of cholate we have more plastic and more cardboard where is the sense in that.

Not very good.

Not very good, nice packaging but very bland chocolate, had the 85% coca and tasted plastic, Aldi chocolate is far better in my opinion.

Con artists

Honestly. Shrinkflation is the biggest con. I cooked a recipe that required 400g of dark chocolate. I put in four bars. Turns out I was 40g short because the CEO and money grabbing shareholders want to con customers to keep the profit margins high. I thought that the price compared to Lindtt seemed too good to be true.

Will he buying supermarket own brand that has fair trade also. Have been a green and blacks customer for 25 years. No more

I have purchased Green & Black's…

I have purchased Green & Black's organic chocolate for many years and been very satisfied in every way. My usual go to one has always been the dark chocolate and ginger.
I purchased two bars this week and am extremely disappointed this time. The chocolate is tasteless and reminds me of cooking chocolate and the ginger has lost its strength. Also to cap it all the price has increased measurably over the last few years and is now unaffordable.
From my point of view, taste and quality of a product is first priority and so I will not be purchasing Green & Black's chocolate again. All very disappointing!

Extortionate prices have forced me to…

Extortionate prices have forced me to look for alternatives.
I used to buy one of the blue packged milk chocolate bars every day when they were around £2.
They slowly started creeping up in price while my wages have remained stagnant so these bars became more of a treat every now and then. Now I see them in the supermarket at £3.25 and I simply cannot afford it on my stagnant minimum wage. It's a quality bar but not worth over 3 quid for a thin bar.

I am boycotting Green & Black's

I am boycotting Green & Black's since I discovered it's part of Cadbury, which I am also boycotting due to its having been sold to Kraft/Mondelez International. There's no need for UK companies to be sold to the US; those are our heritage, and as far as I'm concerned not for sale.

Poor Quality

It's been a while since I last purchased Green and Blacks as the price increase combined with a size decrease irked me. But I was gifted a selection box recently and if I hadn't looked at the packaging I would never have known it was Green and Blacks. They tasted cheap and nasty. I had to laugh.

Green and Blacks has been ruined

Green and Blacks ruined. It’s not the same chocolate, only in name and packaging. Their milk chocolate was like no other, not anymore, it taste cheap snd nasty, like the ingredients used to make it.

HEAVY METALS

After learning that Green & Black’s Organic Dark Chocolate contains concerning levels of lead and cadmium—exceeding California’s Maximum Allowable Dose Levels (MADL) by 143% for lead and 181% for cadmium in a single ounce—I am deeply troubled. These heavy metals are linked to serious long-term health risks, including brain development issues, kidney damage, and reproductive harm. As someone who values organic products for their perceived health benefits, this news is both surprising and disappointing.

While I understand that trace heavy metals can occur naturally in cacao plants due to environmental factors, such high levels should have been mitigated during production. As a consumer, I expect better transparency and proactive measures from brands like Green & Black’s to ensure product safety. It’s crucial for companies to address these concerns and work towards reducing contamination levels. Until then, I’ll be rethinking my choice of dark chocolate for daily consumption.
It’s my understanding when writing this they haven’t even released a statement addressing these concerns and a solution to fix it going forward.

G&B have always been a go to for thank you gifts and offer some great products, the packaging these arrive in is nice and makes for that special something for the recipient. On this occasion I placed an order online and managed to mess up the delivery address (very frustrating!) a quick call to their customer service team, immediately after realising and Suzanne Horan sorted the new correct address quickly and without any fuss, what a relief!! Thanks Suzanne, you’re a star!⭐️
