Halfords' model is to appeal to customers to take up their motor club for around £40, and you get a free MOT. Makes sense, right? Once they get you in, they add hundreds if not thousands, onto unneces... See more

Went in to the Leighton Buzzard store for a faulty brake light and was helped by a new member of staff - Izzy. She went out of her way to sort my issue, as it became rather troublesome.she was friendly, polite and helpful. Got it sorted despite the issues.

Shocking behaviour from staff at Autocentre and Customer Service Dept
Took my car in for a service and MOT at the centre in Cirencester after having used Halfords last year. Dropped my car off at the designated time 8.15am and left the keys with Andrew. I was informed the MOT was at 9.15 and they would keep me updated.Didn't hear anything from them all day so phoned at 4pm and was informed my car was not ready. They finally phoned at 5pm to say it was ready to be collected. On collection I was given keys to a vehicle that were not mine. I was told by the person who I'd dropped them off with that they were my keys. I insisted that they were not mine and that mine had a key ring on. I was told they didn't have a key ring on when they were dropped off. It was suggested that I must have taken the key ring off and left it in my car. When he saw my house keys he suggested I must have put them with them. I stood my ground that the keys were not mine and was then told that I had not dropped my own keys off in the morning and that he remembered a man dropping off my keys ??? I challenged him and told him that I had dealt with him that morning and it was indeed me who had dropped the car off not anyone else.
A quick search was had for other keys but none were found. Eventually the person serving me came out to look at the cars outside, asked which was mine and then used the car key he had said was mine to see if it would open it. It opened the car next to mine.
I asked for my key and was then told they didn't know where it was. Another search and still no key. They then phoned the technician who had worked on my car to discover he had taken them home with him??? No apology to me for anything from the staff at the centre. However when my husband joined me later to see why I was delayed they apologised to him for the mix up. The correct keys were eventually returned to me with the key ring but no apology or acceptance of accountability for what had happened from the staff at the centre only from the technician for taking them home. I felt that the person who was on front of house had a terrible attitude towards me, questioning what I knew to be true and making me feel as if I didn't know what I was doing or saying. He actually suggested that I was lying about having dropped my car off in the morning. I felt that his attitude towards my husband was very different as he apologised to him rather than me. I very much question his customer service skills and if he cannot conduct himself in a respectful manner towards customers then perhaps he shouldn't be working front of house.
I decided to take this matter up with Halfords Customer Service Department the next day.
They showed themselves to be no better. I chased them over several days with phone calls and emails. All I got was an acknowledgement of my complaint and a note to say it would be investigated. Within just a few hours I had another email to say the complaint was resolved and the case closed ???? No discussion or further feedback with me. I phoned and emailed again to get the case reopened (which it was) asked for the named customer service agent to contact me only for the case to be closed again almost immediately. It felt as if my complaint was being dismissed and not followed up. In my last contact to them I informed them I would be taking my complaint to the Resolution Centre and if that failed to the Autocentre Arbitration Centre.
I can't believe that this company is allowed to operate in this way. I would avoid at all costs.
A poor experience from a reputable company with bad service support…
A poor experience from a reputable brand. Ordered a dashcam to be fitted at home. Paid for a slot, received two txt messages reminding we need to be available, and that the fitter would call ahead. They didn't call ahead, but when they arrived, the said they couldn't fit it, because 'it was raining a bit' and that we'd have to rebook. When I enquired why, it was because 'rain might get in the fuse box'. When I pointed out that this was in the glove box, they agreed to proceed if I signed a waiver. The waiver was a blank piece of A4, with signature and name boxes hand written on it. Nothing else. The fitter was a tyre fitter. 2 clues here. He was covered head to foot in rubber and grease marks and his van, and he were not Halfords, they we're wefitanytires.Com (I made that name up to avoid their embarrassment). Contacted Halfords customer support to ask some questions, such as why allow a home booking? If it gets cancelled with absolutely no notice, because it's driseling? There response? We'll be in touch within 7 days. They haven't been. The moral here is check carefully what you are being told by the wb site.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS … Absolutely…
AVOID AT ALL COSTS … Absolutely dreadful ! Took my money knowing full well they don’t do the air con clean then made me wait 8 days ,still no refund , has to call them and now waiting another three days , also my old but lovely car has a scratch down the side because they didn’t take care parking it.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE !!!!
Stinking old crinkle wood !!!

I had an MOT done at Halfords Meadow road Leeds this morning I arrived early through a misunderstanding but they got me straight in and H and the team were all excellent and very helpful.
Friendly and informative experience
Friendly and informative experience, with a positive outcome within the timeframe given. Despite it being a very hot Bank Holiday Monday, the team were extremely friendly and seemed happy to be at work.
Llandudno Auto Centre, Excellent service
I've had my vehicle's wheel alignment adjusted in Halfords Auto Centre, Llandudno. The whole experience from booking the appointment through to the finished job was excellent, the staff were all professional and polite.
I had merber club subscription and I…
I had merber club subscription and I book mot free, and they call me 2 hours before they said they can't do my mot because they have no technicians and they want to send me 10 miles different garage , I take day off from work for my mot . So I speak with sport online and they said I have to pay my mot, so I cancel my subscription and now they saying I use free mot which I didn't, they said I have to pay for cancellation fee for mot which I didn't use. JUST BE FARAWAY FROM HALFORD GARAGES
Halfords Don't Care
So I requested a tyre to be delivered from YOUR recommended list for a Q7 and I picked a Bridgestone but it turns out to be a Wrangler, off road tyre. Didn't read the small print and YOUR technician says this happens quite a bit and wouldn't recommend putting this on, I agreed. So I rebook for today and get an 8-8pm slot even though I specified i needed an early fitting. You then send me a £42 call out charge for the wrong tyre....that's horrendous as YOUR website is WRONG to list the tyre for a Q7.
Extremely disappointing experience.
Extremely disappointing experience.
I booked my car in for an MOT and major service and left it with Halfords for the entire day. After several hours, I was told that the vehicle needed front brake discs and pads, along with a replacement driver’s side brake caliper.
What was most frustrating was being informed that the brake caliper could take “weeks or even months” to obtain because it would have to come directly from Nissan. After losing a full day and still having an unrepaired vehicle, I was left with no practical solution and a potentially huge delay.
Unsatisfied with this response, I contacted another local garage for a second opinion. They were able to source the required part and schedule the repair within two days. This raises serious questions about the information I was given and whether sufficient effort was made to find a timely solution.
The issue wasn’t that my car needed repairs; it was that Halfords appeared unable or unwilling to source the parts within a reasonable timeframe, while another garage managed it almost immediately.
The result was a complete waste of time, unnecessary inconvenience, and a loss of confidence in the service provided. Customers book their cars in expecting repairs to be carried out within a reasonable timeframe, not to be told they may have to wait months for a common braking component when another garage can source it almost immediately.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend Halfords
I put my trust in Halfords Auto centre…
I put my trust in Halfords Auto centre in Widnes and was sadly wrong to do so. Initlaly I was sent to the wrong store by customer care which wasn't a good start, and then was told that is a common issue, after a mechanic checked, I was then quoted £630 for a set of rear break pads and disks and calliper (apparently had ceased) on my Skoda, I am glad I had my suspicions as I then checked on google and with independent mechanics and was told that that was excessive. I cancelled the job as they waited for parts. I then had a mobile mechanic check the issue and was shown that all it was was the hand break cable had become dislodged and should have been a 5 minute job while it was on the ramp at Halfords and there was absolutely nothing wrong with any disks, pads or callipers, Halfords apparently according to google hugely mark up these types of jobs as the customer needs breaks working and basically charge exorbitant prices for jobs that should be simple reasonably priced ones. I have told neighbours and friends about this experience and they are not surprised, I will certainly not be using Halfords in the future.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
Tilehurst is the worst garage I’ve been to, if there was a 0 star option I’d choose it. I’ve used Halfords for years but will never use them again. Aircon suddenly stopped working, diagnosed as a condenser issue by VW, came here as a trusted alternative to get the condenser replaced which was done but the aircon hasn’t worked since. Took it back and was told that the aircon was cold, when I questioned this I was told my vents were blocked. Poor quality service and then make you feel like you’re crazy to think otherwise. Still not resolved despite complaints, £800 burned.
I gave 1 star because zero wasn't an option
I've only given one star because zero isn't an option.
I booked a major service and MOT for my Polestar EV well over a month in advance.
I only had one available Saturday in the month before my MOT was due, hence booking ahead to get the date.
On the Monday of the week that I booked for I get a phone call, I assume to confirm that I've remembered.
But no!
I'm informed that my booking has been cancelled due to 3 problems.
Kettering Autocentre don't have an MOT tester that day, they don't have an EV technician at all and at 2150kg my car is too heavy for their ramps.
If they'd rejected the booking a month ago I could have found somewhere else, as it is I'm having to use floating holiday to take a weekday off work to get the Service and MOT elsewhere.
I tried Halfords Autocentre against my better judgement as I hoped they might have better technicians than the stores, NEVER AGAIN!
Great service from the Guildford Autocentre
Great service from the Guildford Autocentre, especially Tom who was brilliant and helped a lot to get my wifes Mini Countryman sorted and back on the road.
Waste of time
Wasted my time taking my car for some diagnostic on an engine noise, at National Tyres on Caton Road in Lancaster. Dropped car at 0830, no news by 4pm so called them, and it was clear that nothing had been done, and it closed at 6. Picked up car at 5 - they'd checked it by then, and said but we can't get the part today. Which is pretty obvious if they didn't even check the car until 4. Overall a low-energy operation without a clue about the basics of workflow management, or customer service
Overcharged/overpriced/poor customer service
Overpriced, charged for something that isn’t even possible on the car. Poor assessment and original problem not even rectified! Complaint made middle of May, constantly chased and still no reply! Avoid Halford autocentres - particularly the Halesowen one!
