Would not recommend
I have to say the very poor reviews appear valid having recently had my own bad experience. I used to work for Halliwell Jones many years ago, hence me returning as a customer with my own vehicle. I will unfortunately have to return for one more visit as I have a service plan in place, but after that I will take my business elsewhere. Poor service, terrible communication from some (not all) members of staff; sort it out Halliwell Jones? Do these negative reviews not tell you something is very very wrong and needs rectifying?
Having bought a John Cooper Works…
Having bought a John Cooper Works Countryman some 6 months ago from Halliwell Jones Mini I was so impressed with the car and the service from this company that I decided to buy my wife a Mini.
I would say that my experience was exceptional, Ì feel that it is important to mention Tait Black the Sales executive whom I dealt with, he was both courteous and knowledgeable and not pushy .
Simply whilst my wife chose the colour I was ALLOWED to chose the specification and packages. Tait guided me through all the various levels of packages etc.
Having taken delivery today I am over the moon with the car .
I again thank the team at Halliwell Jones Mini in particular Tait Black and his boss Rob ( whom I had to arm wrestle for a discount ) for their excellent service and attention.
I feel I should add that being long in the tooth having bought probably more than 30 new cars that I w ould say that my experience was exceptional and I thoroughly recommend Halliwell Jones Mini
DISGRACEFUL CROOKS!
Absolutely disgraceful customer service from the team at halliwell Chester BMW. Serviced my 2020 530d in 2022, service not uploaded to the system and I’ve been awaiting a call back for 2 weeks with false promises been made by the service manager that someone will call back and this is an issue they would sort ‘over air’ since I am 80 miles away, and the service would show in my car. But guess what?? they’ve gone quite. No call backs and everyone seems to be busy whenever I call to get this issue resolved. Supposed to be professionally but they are incompetent crooks who take your money and then avoid contact when they have made an error. I would not recommend at all. Stay well away.
Stay well away
Stay well away. Worse car dealership i’ve ever had the un fortune of dealing with. Biggest mistake I’ve ever done finding that car in there garage. Swindled me thousands and had the cheek too lie and lie in my face. I won’t set foot anywhere near there garages again.
over the last 20 years l have purchased…
over the last 20 years l have purchased 6 BMW's for both myself and family. Last Friday on the BMW dealership site l saw a 2021 5 series with low mileage at your Chester site
i spoke to a gentlemen whose name l believe is Russell the conversation went well and l asked for some detail to be emailed to me-by the afternoon this still had not arrived, bearing in mind l was asked could l proceed that day with the purchase, so time was important. Apparently he had taken down an incorrect email address(despite having it corrected l am still awaiting the response)
We are now at the pricing stage of the deal, l asked he come back with the very best price and if it was acceptable l would proceed- i kept my phone by me all afternoon and the next day- not a peep
Having earned my living for 50 years in a sales environment l find it hard to believe this lack of interest
so on Tuesday i phoned and having checked that the manager is Nick Hankey i phoned to speak to him, l was told he was on a call and left my mobile number with a promise he would phone me back- needless to say Im still waiting his call
if this is the standard of service given to potential customers prior to purchase heavens know when the car leaves the showroom what they can expect

Just dreadful! I've never has a single positive experience in four years, wont be going back..
Zero Customer Focus at Halliwell Jones Chester
Oh dear what happened to Halliwell Jones. It used to be so good but absolutely no Customer Focus whatsoever. I went to see if i could book in to do some work on my car to find that they would not book me in without an inspection….but i know what needs doing why can’t i just book it in? No inspection then we wont warrant the work. Two weeks to wait for an inspection then at least another two weeks before we book you in ???? Then round and round again we go. How pathetic and I don’t understand why you wont warrant the work a customer pays for. I only gave 1 out of 5 as you can’t give less. If any of the leadership read this you need to understand what your legal team have done to your process and you need to think about who it is that pays for the Company….thats right its the Customer. I have booked in around the corner with someone else - guess what…is that what you need. No problem let’s book you in !!!
Absolutely shocking!!
Absolutely shocking!!! I have had the staff twisting my words, calling me a liar, refusing to help, and they all have poor attitudes towards you. Reluctant to fix my car when it was their fault and made my car worse than what it was when it went in. You would have thought as they are a ‘respectable’ company/garage they would treat you with respect, but overall have done nothing but try to rip you off and have caused damage to other peoples cars!!! When questioned have not held themselves liable or took accountability. Wouldn’t recommend and 100% avoid!!
AVOID! Terrible attitude
Terrible attitude and service. Someone snapped off my back windscreen wiper on my 3 year old mini - One day after warranty ended. I explained that I just needed a new one putting on it. They insisted I bring it in first and charge me over £100 to tell me what needed doing! I told them I didn’t need that and just needed a replacement, so they refused to do it for me. Really rude on phone. Took it to another BMW garage and they did it for £28. No quibble. Will never go there again.
Halliwell Jones Chester. Avoid
Shocking experience dealing with Halliwell Jones Chester. I have an issue with the headlamp on a brand new I4 (water/condensation in the sealed unit). Very disorganised. 2 visits and both times they have said they need to order the part! Also misplaced my key when I went to pick up my car. Very poor service. My advice avoid!
Incompetent…
This dealership is the most incompetent company I think I've ever come across. They cannot be bothered to do their job and find faults with the car they'd rather say they suspect faults so they can keep on charging customers. Do yourself a favour and go to a more reputable dealership where they know how to diagnose a fault. This dealership is not even worth the one star!
DANGEROUS MECHANICS
Hi
I had a service and MOT on 27 September 2023 at Halliwell Jones Chester. I waited SIX hours in the service centre for my car as I have a disability and there was no spare car. My car also showed an alert that it may roll away so they said they would investigate.
My car Passed the MOT, but NOTHING was done on the service, not even an oil check which needed 1 litre to be put in when I checked. I had 1 tyre on that was the wrong size but the staff member didn't realise and tried to say I needed hundreds of pounds worth of wheel alignment doing.
I addition they didn't realise there was no coolant either until I replaced the tyre (wrong size) and an 18 year old told me the tyre was the wrong size and there was no coolant and my car was about to seize up.
With regard to the warning on my dashboard they flippantly said the whole dashboard needs replacing.
I wouldn't trust them with my walking stick never mind keep me safe on the roads. I went to the BMW specialists to get the best help and quite honestly an 18 year old level 3 student knew more than them all put together.
So unless you figure out why they thought it was OK for me to drive away in a dangerous vehicle and take my money I will never buy BMW ever again.
HJ are the worst car dealership you…
HJ are the worst car dealership you could ever go to. We have been a customer for years, our family have purchased Minis, BMWs and a Mercedes from them, at least 12 cars., even more.
We purchased a BMW i3 only six months ago, I spotted another vehicle I liked more and this was £1000 less than what we paid for the i3. They came back to with an offer £4500 less for our car as a trade in, that’s only 6 months, I’m in absolute shock! How!! They are absolute rip of merchants and a disgrace to the automotive trade.
I waited for a call of Andrew Richard from mini all day ready to do a deal, didn’t hear a thing, actually I rang him, so I went over after work and he was rude as soon as he looked at us and very unprofessional. I sold cars for a year once and I was always professional and gave everyone who walked through the door my time and manners and help them get the car they want, courtesy doesn’t cost anything.
1 million pounds worth of sales in a year wasn’t to bad for a first timer.
Go somewhere else for your car please, save yourselves from these people, we will never buy a car from them again..ever.
So disappointed.
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars I would. Went today to look to purchase a BMW X1 or X2. Went to reception desk and was ignored till the receptionist decided to give attention. Told her what we were after, She asked "New or Used"? we said used. She picks up the phone to ring someone. While the phone is ringing out, a guy comes over and asks if he can help. The receptionist looks up, rolls her eyes, sneers and says Used! at which point, he promptly turned on his heel and walked away.
We are told to take a seat. After 20 minutes of waiting we walked out. As far as we are concerned they are, extremely rude, ageist (are pensioners not allowed to purchase BMW's??) and snobs. Do not bother with this garage. After being BMW drivers for many years, we will now return to Cheshire Oaks Audi garage where we were treated with respect.
Car was re-called in December 2023
Car was re-called in December 2023, earliest space was March 2024. It went in to have the EGR cooler replaced.
Experience dropping it off/ having a courtesy car all went fine. Now 2 weeks after having the car back, my engine has ceased and they are telling me it's nothing to do with it being in with them merely a few weeks earlier, they are not accepting any liability or responsibility and I'm now left with a car I can't drive and potentially a huge bill. Not happy, and not a coincidence. Will be lodging a complaint with management.
Thank you for ensuring a great experience with my car purchase.
I dealt with Tait who took me through each stage of purchasing a used Mini which he arranged to be brought over from the North Wales branch. I arranged to go in for a test drive, then Tait sorted all the necessary paperwork in time for me to complete the purchase 6 days later (my choice for date of completion). He kept me informed with emails and phone calls, just the right amount of contact. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, patient, explained everything, and answered all my questions. We sat in the car and he went through all the controls to ensure I was happy and understood how everything worked. I had traded in a much older Mini, so things had changed somewhat. I had also changed to automatic, so needed to get used to that too. I love my new Mini and look forward to driving it. I think that purchasing a car is a big deal and I will certainly remember the experience. It means a lot to have good, friendly service and all the staff who passed by Tait’s desk acknowledged me and had a smile or friendly word, again all credit to them too. Thanks also to Dan for coming to have a chat to ensure I was happy with everything.
Recall mystry
My car was in for a manufacturer's recall on the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler. I made the booking in around December 2023 prompted by the service department. The admin person said they needed the vehicle until 5.30 pm. Arrived home by taxi (£24) and got a call to say it would be ready early. They did not carry out the work saying a replacement was not needed only a check, which was not what I had been told from way back in December. So a day wasted plus costs. I found it very difficult to believe what I was being told by their staff and told them so, to which they just shrugged.
Poor end result!
The sales representative was the best part of my experience. Nice, polite, knowledgeable. We brought a mini and on pick up a valet and new front wipers were promised. On pick up, car there for us, guided through ok. It was a rainy day but when home and on drive neither new wipers or valet had been done. Totally ignored. Had photos to prove poor handover condition. Did receive an apology but refused to let them rectify their mistake. Did our own valet. They did post wipers to me. In the end a total let down.
Ensured my new car was second hand by the time it arrived.
Brand new car ordered and ended up being driven 300 miles for delivery and covered in filth as a result. If I order a new car, I expect it to turn up on the back of a transporter as other BMW dealerships have done in the past. If you put 300 miles on it, is it still a new car? I would not order anything from this showroom again. They have offered to refund the cleaning costs of the car, however it should have never turned up like this. Totally unacceptable.
