I am feeling very cheated today having bought currency at Hays Travel Merrion Centre Leeds yesterday. The rate shown on the window of 1.14 was very attractive to me after seeing rates of between 1.10 and 1.12 on my way through town. Unfortunately I didn't look closely enough! I bought 450 euro paid by debit card and thought nothing more of it until I got home. I had my friend with me who I hadnt seen for a while and was a little distracted during the transaction but Hays has a good name , hence all the great reviews on here so I trusted them to do good business. However when I got home and checked the transaction on my account It clicked and I realised I had got nothing near the rate on the window. I telephoned the agency today and was told that the rate on the window was for spends of 700 or more and the rate I got was dependant on the time of day I went in as it fluctuates during the day! Turns out I had been given a rate of 1.0735 and been charged £3.95 sell back guarantee. I was not consulted about that and never use it anyway as I travel to Europe regularly. I did not automatically get a print out of the transaction as is usual and foolishly when the assistant said would I like a receipt I declined. More fool me. I wish I had called in to one of the other bureaux on my way where the rate stays firm for that day and sell back is guaranteed free. What a set up! I am going to get my 3.95 back but have to make the journey into Leeds to get it, which is not that convenient. Take my advice and buy your. Currency elsewhere
