Buying my first electric car yesterday…

Buying my first electric car yesterday was such an exciting experience,I honestly couldn’t have asked for better service.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Joshua for making the whole process smooth, professional, and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish. He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient with all my questions, and made me feel completely confident in my decision.

Unsatisfactory Customer Experience

I purchased a car in January from JC Select Edinburgh. Unfortunately, when I collected the vehicle the wiper blades were shredded (potential MoT failure), rubbish found under the driver's seat, malfunctioning key fobs and empty wiper fluid.
These issues strongly suggested that the vehicle had not undergone the necessary pre-sale checks and contributed to an overall disappointing customer experience. When I called JC Select Edinburgh to report these concerns, I was advised that the earliest available appointment for repairs would be more than one full week later. This delay left me without a fully functioning vehicle at a time when I reasonably expected the car to be in proper working order immediately after purchase.
After collecting the vehicle, I was informed by the sales representative, Jake, that he would contact me within a few days to ensure I was satisfied with the car. Unfortunately, I did not receive this follow‑up call, which further diminished my confidence in the level of customer care.
Furthermore, the car broke down and required a replacement battery. While I appreciate that JC Select were able to fit a new battery - and I recognise that battery failure can occur without warning - this further reinforced my doubts about the thoroughness of the pre-sale inspection.
These repeated problems caused considerable inconvenience and have undermined the trust I expected to have from an established dealership.

Josh was welcoming and friendly

Josh was welcoming and friendly, knowledable ans helpful. The show room and forecourt are very smart and reassuring of quality of sales.
Josh made sure I understood the paperwork for the transaction and helpfully checked I knew the controls for the car before leaving. I found him very approachable and I was able to ask for a little after care as I had a small query about the car's settings. I am satisfaied with the car I purchsed and the quality of customer service provided.

Purchased a car, bad experience.

I purchased a Toyota Yaris end of July 2025 and I was very happy with my purchase and the customer service I had been given at the time. It is the first car I have purchased and I was happy purchasing it from a well-known dealership. When viewing the car, we saw there were some scratches and markings, which was not a big deal as it’s a used car. We were informed the brakes were new and I thought this was great and this is something I would not have to be concerned with in the near future. After purchasing the car we noticed there was markings on the rear window which was not pointed out to us prior to purchasing so we reached out to the dealership not long after. They were helpful and asked us to bring it in to see if they could remove the markings. They were unable to do this however we appreciated their attempt.
I reached out again a couple months later regarding an enquiry regarding a lock bolt and I also requested them to send over the MOT/service invoice which they had done when they received the car from the previous owner. In the invoice I could see that they had replaced the front/rear brake discs and pads, which we were already aware of. However, noticed in the invoice that it stated "calipers not required", this suggesting that these were still good since the previous owner and did not think more of it.
Fast forward to now my car has done approximately 4000 miles since purchasing the car 6 months ago and I have to take my car to the garage as my brakes are making a clunking sound.
The garage lets me know that the brake pads and discs installed were of poor quality and need replacing and additionally that the rear calipers need replacing. I was surprised to hear about the brake pads and discs as they were new when buying the car.
Reached out to the dealership in Edinburgh as there is a 12 month warranty. They requested me to send the invoice from the garage, which I did. The salesman who sold me the car who we were communicating with was off the next day and back in the day after. At this point my car had then been in the garage for two full days. After they recieved the invoice, they confirm that the car shouldn't have these issues after 6 months/4000 miles and asked if we have contacted the warranty company. I replied believing we had to go through the dealership for this issue. They then informed me I have to reach out to Emac who they have their 12 month warranty with. No contact details given, so after getting Emacs number I try calling them. I get an automated answering machine which has mutli-options however does not let me speak to customer service. When I’ve listened and clicked through the options relevant to my issue the machine states that it’s the repairer who needs to reach out to them and it is important that no work has been done prior to this and thanks me for calling. At this point my car has almost been at the garage for 3 full days. I also emailed Emac and had no response. I need my car so I had to proceed with getting the work done, knowing I'll have to take the cost. It feels upsetting paying £11000 outright for a car and then having to pay £676 to fix issues on it only 6 months later which were claimed to have been fixed just prior to buying it.
I'm now questioning JC Selects Edinburgh MOT/service that was completed prior to me purchasing the car as I'm having issues with those exact things. I am wondering if the calipers that were "not required" replacing is part of this issue.

Additionally, when buying the car it had four different tire makes, which I should've questioned more as I found it bizarre but I was just excited about getting my car. I got them changed to all the same make after purchasing the car which has cost me £390, which is a choice I made for safety.

I would not recommend buying from JC Select from my experience. Once you have purchased the car, the assistance and interest of you as a customer dissapears. I feel as my issue has been shrugged off. Seeing some of the other reviews it now would make me apprehensive.

Josh made the experience of buying a new car for my grandmother so easy.
Kept in touch over they few days it took for handover which was really quick.
We viewed the car on the sunday & collected it on the wednesday.
Josh was great in dealing with my grandmother, small little things like opening the car door and turning on her heated seat really made her smile.

In January 2026 I went to John Clark…

In January 2026 I went to John Clark and seen a car I wanted. I spoke to a salesman (Joshua) who was able to tell me the complete ins and outs of the car. He was knowledgeable enough to inform me of all the facts about the car that I needed to know. Within days, Joshua had went out his way to make sure the car was fresh, clean, and shiny - brand new. Although buying a new car can be a tough experience, John Clark, especially Joshua, made sure the car was perfect. Excellent customer service, and a brilliant car dealership.

The car was valeted very well prior to the delivery. Surprisingly, the previous owner didn't leave the AC wallbox charging cable however Joshua arranged a new one instantly, that was a nice touch. Bad experience when bought a car

I would like to share my recent bad experience from this company.I bought skoda kodiaq car from this company (Edinburgh branch)on 29th of December 2025, the sales man Brian told us many offers one month insurance, one year breakdown coverage , free full tank petrol, remove all the scratches which we noticed at the time of viewing but after sale completed and transfered money to them, they changed everything , they charged £30 for petrol, £399 for paint work and did not give us any proof or invoice for this work, insurance only we can claim upto£5000/ .They charged one year road tax but they only paid to DVLA 6 months and we are still waiting for the rest of the money. they told me head office will refund that money but still i did not receive that money yet. They did not complete any paper work after 3 weeks time. they don't speak with me properly when i phone them. I am doing part time job and struggling for money. I strongly suggest people who is going to deal with them to be very careful in the future.
