Our two boys attended a summer cooking day. They had a fantastic day cooking from scratch pesto pasta, garlic bread and Tiramisu. They were buzzing when they came home, telling us all about what they had learnt and their food tasted amazing. I would highly recommend these holiday sessions.

We had Emma from Kiddy Cook Harrogate leading our workshops in school. She was amazing. Everything was prepped in advance, she was incredibly organised. She tailored our recipes to match our curriculum and was willing to create new recipes where needed. The children loved making and tasting the ingredients. She always used quality ingredients and catered for different dietary requirements. I can't recommend her highly enough.

Kiddy cook was fantastic

Kiddy cook was fantastic! The children loved the different recipes and making different meals. A very supportive class which is exciting, sociable and experimental and such fun for the children! My children can now make their own packed lunches and choose a variety of vegetables to put in their wraps! They learnt so much from the course and now help cook tea! Thanks x

Summer Cooking Camp

The children from our school got the chance to participate in a Summer Cooking Camp. They all thoroughly enjoyed making delicious food, pizza, pasta, scones, jam flapjack. They each took a recipe card home, which inspired many to make the food again at home. It definitely inspired me! Thanks Emma, I cannot wait to see what you'll be making next!

Fab sessions

My daughter really enjoyed the sessions at school. She talked excitedly about them and looked forward to the next one. My daughter has SEN and often needs a lot of adult support but the photos from school show her happily joining in with her friends independently. She loved making the cheese scones and sausage rolls. The recipe cards were fab. We have since made the cheese scones and they are a big hit in our house, sausage rolls are next on the list. Thanks for some fab sessions.

Year 3 Sandwich sessions

Year 3 Sandwich sessions
My class really enjoyed the experience of making wraps, sandwiches, cheese scones, sausage rolls and finally a fruit pancake. Many of the children went home and made them again, especially the cheese scones. Emma was brilliant - she was very encouraging of children and engaged everyone in the activities. We love having her in our school!

A mixed review

My children have both done this course at school and while they LOVED doing it the food they brought home they couldnt eat and to be honest neither could we. A wrap with raw carrot inside is not an appealing healthy meal. As a family we enjoy eating healthily and the food we make excites the children. I just think the final product should be something the children would want to eat and make again.

If anything its put my children off having, say, a wrap, or a smoothie, as there last impression is a wrap has to be hard and crunchie and a smoothie has to be milky with soft raspberries floating on top.
The children did however enjoy tasting all the food in class and as a whole enjoyed the course I just wish the end product was edible and something they could enjoy.

Reply from Kiddy Cook

Thanks for your review and I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy the final recipes. I’ll definitely take a look at what we can do better but it’s always a balancing act when preparing food with a class of different tastes and abilities and if a child doesn’t like an ingredient they don’t always add them. The wrap should have contained cream cheese, carrot, tomato, cucumber, pepper and spinach - so lots of opportunities for the children to practice their chopping skills.

With regards to the smoothie, we discussed the differences between smoothies and juices and looked at different calcium ingredients (hence the milk) and every pupil had a go using a hand held blender to blend their smoothie. We decided as a group not to blend the raspberries/ blueberries on the top to add texture!

I hope this puts the classroom session into perspective but I will definitely take your comments on board to see where we might make changes for the better.

Kiddycook Harrogate Online Learning Sessions

During the 2020 COVID lockdown we participated in the weekly online cooking classes delivered by Emma at Kiddycook Harrogate. They became one of the highlights of the week for my 4 year old and 6 year old. Emma provided a great variety of recipes for us to cook and lead the sessions in a structured, engaging way. She encouraged the children to try new foods and work creatively and independently. I would highly recommend Emma’s Kiddycook online learning!

Our children absolutely loved this experience. Everything ran smoothly and COVID guidelines were followed. The lady that ran the workshop was polite and professional. She provided everything, including aprons, and she also cleaned and tidied up after. I would recommend this to any primary year group.

Bronze DofE

My son completed a Kiddy Cook course for his Bronze DofE. He found the recipes easy to follow helping his independence, they covered a wide range of preparation techniques and developed his cooking skills really well. There was a variety of ingredients used, some familiar and others not. It developed his confidence in the kitchen which matched his reason for completing the course. All communication was encouraging and prompt. Would definitely recommend this course.
