I purchased a Makita DUH601Z 18v LXT Brushless Hedge Trimmer Naked in March 2024 for £257 from Powertool Mate. It wasn't highlighted clearly in any of the paperwork that I could extend the warranty to... See more

Radio repair.
Can not thank makita enough for an outstanding service to repair my worksite radio. Very quick response through email. Managed to organise pick up from my house, repair and return within a 4/5days. Very pleased.
8m Tape Rubbish
I am a true believer in the LXT 18v range and have only received good service from the range. However I have in the last 6 months purchased 3 x 8m tapes all of which failed and not one response from customer service. This is an appalling attitude towards customers. They might only be £15 each but what rubbish. Just don't buy them anyone. It has put me off Makita all together and as my equipment wear out I will be changing make. Such a shame.
Disappointed
I looked for a place to vent my frustration with this company and thought of Trustpilot. On looking for makita I found someone else’s review concerning a hedge cutter and it took me a moment to figure out if I’d already posted. I hadn’t, it appears that we are simply in the same boat.
I had my hedge cutter collected around a month ago and heard nothing for a week, so informing contact and there was a lull. Then I tried again and apparently a quote for repair had been sent, I’d never received it. It turned out that although I was emailing my concerns they had got me email address wrong for the quote. Anyway, I paid the £137:00 for the repair of a, just under two year machine, and waited for an update, nothing. I called and was advised someone would call me back, nothing. Todaye they have been great but this is a whole different side of things. Can’t say I’d recommend based on this latest experience which is a real shame and the tools work well and the customer service previously has been great but I’m wondering if there is a shift regards customer care.
I am appalled at the service I have had…
I am appalled at the service I have had from Makita, regarding a warranty repair. I sent a hedge trimmer for repair over 5 weeks ago, I have had zero contact from them. I chased a week ago and was told they were waiting for a part and that they would get back to me with an update. No callback was received, so I chased again today only to be told they were still waiting for a part.🤬🤬🤬🤬. They have told me they will look into it and get back to me..We will see.
This is one of the worlds largest manufacturers and they can’t get one part for a little hedge trimmer.🤷🏼♂️
On their recorded answer system they promise ‘Exceptional Service’ they deliver on that only it is exceptionally bad.
Warranty claim seems impossible to arrange
I reported a faulty Makita multi tool to the warranty team on the 4th of May, it is now the 25th of June and they still haven't replaced the faulty tool that is under 1 year old.
When chasing support, apparently the initial tec didn't log my case despite me having email proof that it was reported and discussed with him. Had similar issues now with a second tec who promised a pickup last Monday that didn't happen.
I need this tool for work therefore I had to purchase a replacement at my own cost.
As a tradesperson I rely on these tools to do my job, I have spent thousands for Makita tools, I will now be moving to another brand with better support.
Amazing service
I recently contacted makita regarding two spare batteries that had gone flat and wouldn’t recharge so they sent me a form to fill in and they collected the items checked them and replaced the with new ones. You can’t get better service than that anywhere
You get what you pay for
Purchased a Makita brushless drill. Unfortunately after 12 months it be some faulted. I got in touch with Makita and couldn’t fault them. They repaired the drill free of charge. It was returned within a week. Definitely worth purchasing Makita tools. Just goes to show you get what you pay for. Great product, great after service, great value. Peace of mind all round.
Makita UK offers - Unable to redeem/will not honor
Read the Small print on any Makita UK offers
Makita UK have an offer currently on certain models when purchased you can claim for a free Makita gift (xxxx.xxxxxx.redeemlxt)
I purchased a hedge trimmer that was on the list and subsequently filled in the on-line application form supplying photo evidence of receipt, packaging, serial no's etc etc
Makita declined the application and stated it was a 'bare' item, i.e. no battery or charger. I had supplied the receipt clearly stating battery & charger and further supplied photo-evidence
No response, posted on their facebook page to try and provoke a response which resulted in another e-mail address that they still didn't respond to.
Finally picked up the phone only to speak to someone who had all the info, just hadn't bothered to respond. Failure to honor the offer was due to the fact I had bought a 'dealer supplied kit'?
Good luck anyone knowing that you've bought a brand-new Makita tool with all the correct Makita components in a Makita box without knowing that if it ends with 'XX' and not 'yy and that the dealer has placed the charger and the battery in the box not Makita (I think)
It's just Small-print avoidance of honoring a promotion
It's a shame as I am really pleased with the product I may add but I hope it doesn't fail if this is Makita's customer service (Have you tried registering a Makita warranty on-line?!!!!)
Excellent quality tools
Excellent quality tools. Reliable, sturdy, very happy with this brand.
You're paying for the designer label.
I purchased two power tools for my son for Christmas which I tried to register on their useless web site, I eventually gave up and wrote to the UK Managing Director, Kevin Brannigan. Did I get a response - of course I didn't, so I wrote to company president Shiho Hori in Japan, Did In get a response - of course I didn't, I did however get two emails out of the blue a week or so ago with warranty certificates attached but no message with an apology or otherwise. I have a number of Makita and DeWalt tools (which are just as bad by the way) but they will be the last. They are overpriced, designer label, made in China items which are simply not worth the money.
Tools are good quality. Let down by UK Support
No problem with the Makita tools, very good quality. The same can not be said for the UK Customer Service.
Updated abbreviated review (26/02/2022).
Some Makita Lawnmower delivered without a Mulching Plug. Having ordered an expensive DLM460PG2 Lawn Mower, I contacted Makita UK Customer Service for confirmation that it comes with a mulching plug.
Reply. - It can be purchased separately if needed as this is an optional extra. Part 671660001.
I have searched Suppliers online and the Part Number 671660001 is for 191D46-2 Mulching Plug for DLM382 & DLM432. Will it fit the DLM460? If not, what is the correct part number and if it is the correct part, where can I source one?
Reply. - This is an optional accessory, not standard equipment. This is the correct part number for your model and yes 191D46-6 is only for the DLM382 and DLM432 (What does that even mean?). xxxx is our dealer who you can purchase this from.
Contacted dealer, it`s out of stock!!
Reply. - They will be able to order this part for you.
23 Feb. Mower delivered from distributer.
Complete with Mulching Plug installed and instruction how to remove and install it.
I spent hours trying to identify what was required and where to purchase, fortunately without success, or I would have also wasted money on an unnecessary purchase.
An Exceptionally Trustworthy Firm
An exceptionally trustworthy firm who stands by their policy. First class Customer Services and Tech Team.
Faulty Leaf Blower, eventually replaced with a new one.
no fighting, no wrangling, just good honest Makita after care. Cannot praise them enough.
Shameful customer service
Bought a Makita 101 piece mixed drill bit set and the magnetic drill bit doesn’t fit my Makita impact driver. I emailed Makita customer service and got the following reply;
Good afternoon,
This is made for 13mm chucks.
Just close the chuck around the hex fitting.
The hex fitting extension is a 1/4 inch fitting with 6 sides, the jaws of the chuck have 3 locks on, which will fit firmly around the flat edges.
This will fit your impact as these are 1/4" fitting. But mainly advise to be used in the combi drill.
So how confused am I when my friend bought the exact same box and it’s fits the exact same impact driver! Shameful customer service from Makita! Lies!
No reverse action on a DUN461WZ
Bought a Makita DUN461WZ only to find that (contrary to Makita UK's claims) it does not have a reverse action. Makita UK's promotional material on their web site claims the machine has a reverse action - but it doesn't. There is no button on the machine that could be used to select reverse action and there is absolutely no reference in the manual to reverse action. Makita New Zealand and others do not claim this machine has reverse action - it seems just Makita UK has it wrong.
I've sent Makita an email to advise them that their information is misleading but, as yet, there's no change to their inaccurate sales info.
Edit. Makita UK have subsequently confirmed (to me and the supplier - Powertool World) that this model DOES NOT have a reverse action yet their website still claims there is a reverse action on this model! Very poor.
Makita BO5140 sander. Utter Rubbish. Buy Something else.
I purchased this sander a little over a year ago, on first use the tool worked but the sanding pad just oscillated and didn’t spin. I lifted the tool and it spun very slowly. I viewed people using the tool on YouTube and the sanding pad can be clearly seen spinning at a reasonable speed while sanding. I tried my own sander at all the speeds and it wouldn’t spin when placed on the wood to be sanded. I contacted the store where I purchased it who told me I had to contact Makita to have it repaired.
I contacted Makita technical support and explained the problem, I was told that it sounded like the sander was working correctly but if I wanted them to examine it I would have to pay for it to be returned and pay for their time as well as parts if it wasn’t covered under warranty. How can it not be when it’s brand new.
I had just paid out the sander and living on a disability wage I couldn’t afford to pay out anymore so
I decided not to send it away until I had read up some more on Makita Problems. The sander sat on a shelf for six months while I investigated and the results were clear, the sander should spin.
I contacted Makita again, fully explaining the problem stating that the sander didn’t spin and was useless as a sander and could it be repaired if it wasn’t working as it should.
The reply stunned me, rather than issuing advice or a repair, they sent me details on their new sander and said my sander was only meant to oscillate. If this is the case why is it still sold as a Random Orbital sander and why do YouTube videos show it spinning.
The company is a joke when it comes to service. I have had a lot of Makita tools when I worked but I will never use them again. At least Dewalt replaced my router when it broke without any fuss and the warranty had just expired.I will be using Dewalt tools in future
Best power tool company I have delt…

Contacted Makita UK today to ask advice…
Contacted Makita UK today to ask advice about a new product purchased and accessories the representative was very courteous, understanding. reassuring giving information regarding my enquiry also introducing me kindly to a range of other services that Matika offer via their website.
best battery drill by far
have had a battery drill for 4 years now, awesome piec of kit. finally died and have just replaced it with another. so powerful, lovely to use for trade workload around the farm. i'm a lifelong Makits guy :) love you lots ! by far the best above all other makes.
Brand new Makita blower
Brand new Makita blower - ran for 10 minutes. Cost of repair via Makita is more than the cost of a new one. Adapted for use by disabled hubby (engine 100% untouched) but zero support. Saved long & hard for this and now have neither a working product or refund.
Stay well clear of Makita they don’t care…
I bought an expensive 7 piece masonry drill set. Somehow during manufacturing they have buffed off the tungsten carbide tips and rendered them totally useless and unusable. Yet are still selling them as no one there knows what a drill bit is. Despite several emails and dozens of phone calls I’m still waiting for my money back. And was told by their technician this would be unlikely as they don’t know what the problem is?? Eh, they have removed the cutting tip off the drills is the problem.
Useless company that doesn’t care about its customers or it’s products.
