I purchased a Makita DUH601Z 18v LXT Brushless Hedge Trimmer Naked in March 2024 for £257 from Powertool Mate. It wasn't highlighted clearly in any of the paperwork that I could extend the warranty to... See more

I purchased a makita 260mm slide compound mitre saw from FFX tools on 8 September 2020 at a price of £552. After opening and trying to use it, I discovered a number of faults. I contacted FFX who advised me that because I was within the 30 day purchase period, I would have to contact Makita. I telephoned makita and they said they would arrange for the machine to be collected. A few days later, the machine was collected and makita emailed me to say they had received it.I asked makita for a replacement machine. They said they would check the machine and get back to me. I heard nothing until over a week later when a courier arrived at my address to deliver the same machine back to me (still packaged as I had packed it prior to collection). I refused to accept the machine as I had heard nothing from Makita. I then telephoned makita and informed them of what had happened and explained that I wanted a full refund or a replacement machine. They said they would have to speak with FFX and get back to me later that day. I heard nothing and a few days later a courier arrived at my address to collect the machine! I explained that the machine had been collected days ago. I again contacted makita and they told me they were waiting for the machine to arrive at their depot. I again explained that I wanted a full refund. i heard nothing back so afew days later i contacted Makita and, they said they had sent the machine out to me the day before, ( without my knowledege and whilst i was at work!)They then asked me to forward my invoice by email which I did. The next day, I received an email from makita to say that FFX would contact me about a refund. I have since heard nothing from makita or FFX. I am still waiting for my refund and have now been passed between the two companies for almost 3 weeks. This is disgraceful customer service. Would not purchase any more makita products.
4 months later and still waiting for a working saw!
Bought a DUC306z battery chainsaw back in June, The 1st one I received was faulty and constantly turned itself off while in use. FFX eventually collected it and over a month later I received a replacement saw which unbelievably had exactly the same problem! This time it has gone back to makita to be inspected / repaired, FFX say it went to Makita on the 11th Sept, Makita say they didn't receive it till the 1st Oct. Its now the 8th of Oct, getting on for 4 months since I bought the saw and I have still to date not had a working saw and don't even have any idea when I'm going to get one! Clearly there's a batch of faulty saws here and the time it is taking to get the issue resolved is totally unacceptable! Most of the delays have been down to FFXs poor customer service but the poor quality control on the tools is 100% down to Makita! This was my first Makita purchase and it will be my last, back to Dewalt for me!
Disorganized and pathetic
On assembling my Makita garden shredder I found 3 parts in the packaging at the bottom of the box. One I found a home for but not the other 2. I contacted Makita and gave them the part number on one of the two hoping that they could tell me where it went, if indeed it should have been part of this machine.
Customer services were most unhelpful and it took 10 days for them to refer my query to an engineer. Since then I have been passed from pillar to post. I have waited in for a day for a courier to collect the machine to take it back to Milton Keynes - the courier never arrived. I am told that they cannot give me a time more precise than am/pm. nor give me an idea of when the machine will be returned. I was also advised that using the machine would invalidate the warranty.
I have asked for a replacement - this would be much quicker that their proposal and save them one courier journey - but no.
I cannot get hold of anyone senior enough to make a decision and the staff I have been able to contact while being pleasant and apologetic seem to be unable to break out of an inflexible system.
Meanwhile I have a machine gathering dust that I am unable to use just when the garden needs clearing. I have spent considerable time and money on emails and telephone calls and a resolution seems just as far away as ever. Despite their reputation for good products their response has been nothing short of disorganised and pathetic.
Although I am happy with my Makita…
Although I am happy with my Makita tools I can't help think they lack in giving some simple accessories with items. Such as a belt clip for purchase of cordless drill, dust bag for planer. For the cost of the tools I find compared to others they give less for your money. I am currently looking at getting a laser level 10.4v. Compared to other makes they are not rated highly and paying alot more for it. Yes the mechanics are solid but its the small things they refuse to supply, buy a macpac case for tool, still have to purchase an insert for that tool! Its just plastic, include it with the purchase!!!
Wont repair my under-warranty product
I own a Makita HP457D driver drill, which I recently sent to Makita for repair as it's covered by a 3 year warranty.
I can not fault communication with the customer service team, who have been very pleasant throughout, but after three trips to the repair centre my drill is still faulty. The team state that no fault can be found, but it clearly doesnt drill straight holes anymore. You can feel the sideways movement while drilling, drill bits break, and I cannot be accurate with my work.
I can't perform the jobs I need too, yet the expert repair centre see no problem. It's disappointing. I now need a new drill and I won't buy Makita again.
I recently bought a makita hand held…
I recently bought a makita hand held router RT0700CX2J. The description of this article says that the router can use a 8mm collect and a 6mm collect, but the 6mm collect is useless it is to small. I wrote 2 emails to makita costumer service, and Agrodirect.at from whom I bought the router from, but either of them bothered answering my question, which is what is makita going to do to rectify this problem .
Best regards

Fantastic service and great customer service help
Fantastic service - Thank you. Sent our trusty DAB radio in for repair and it came back having been sorted out Free of charge - one VERY happy husband. So nice to have a good customer service base for if you do get a fault ( Rare with anything Makita ) - highly recommend this brand of tools.
Cannot fault makita
Cannot fault makita. There tools withstand time and punishment and every time one has started playing up (it's only happened twice In nearly 20 years) makita have repaired it for me free of charge and quickly. 5 star service all the way.
Makita customer service and repair…
Makita customer service and repair centerd Milton Keynes. Exelent service thank you . Have used them on a few occasions. Superb in every way.
Best Power Tools
When I first started working within the construction industry, over 40 years ago, being young and a little naïve, there was no way, I would every touch anything made by the Japanese, as my father fought in WW2. Thankfully, much older and a little wiser, and not so bigoted, my judgement has changed completely.
Would recommend Makita tools to all, both amateur and professional alike. Yes, expensive, but they last for years if treated with respect, and will enhance your quality of workmanship as a result. Britain would do well to use the philosophy of Makita as a guide, now we all more into the future without Europe to rest upon.
Great tools, fantastic customer service
Incredible customer service from Makita! Had an issue with my LXT brushless impact driver. Emailed customer service to explain the issue, the impacter was collected, repaired and posted straight back to me today as good as new - all in the matter of a few days. It's the first time i've ever needed to contact them and I have to say i'm very impressed, it has reaffirmed why i pay the extra to buy Makita tools.
I primarily use the cordless LXT range (and a few corded tools too) all of which are superb. Great build quality and overall good reliability. Also, the 5AH batteries last an almost unbelievable amount of time on a single charge, especially with the brushless tools. Can use a drill or impact driver for days without recharging which is really handy.
I had a fault with my cordless comb…
I had a fault with my cordless comb drill. I spoke with Makita and once I could show them my receipt and my 3 year warranty they organised for the drill to be picked up. They repaired it the next day and sent it back so I received it the following day. All very easy. No hassle, no quibble. At no cost to me.
Just fantastic.
A very happy customer.
I have nothing put praise for Makita…
I have nothing put praise for Makita UK. I've used their tools for many years, and whenever I have a problem (usually through the beating they get on my building site), they have always done a great repair.
It's good to see a company that wants their products to go on working and not just be chucked away and replaced (other companies, take note, this is what customers want).
Thank you to the Makita repair team.
Makita good tools I all ways use them…
Makita good tools I all ways use them only problem customer service and website are not working to register new tools.i have bought new tool today but I cannot register and I hate call customer service sometimes they are rude.
Repair department
Initially was very disappointed with the service of the repair team. Admin staff were poor (see original review below). After speaking to the repair engineer I was given a free new battery with my tool which they didn't have to do. So it is much apprenticed. If Makita improve their communication, no one will have any complaints with this company.
Original review;
''very poor customer service.
Rang the repair department on three different times over the course of two days for an update on my tool, they told me they will ring me back with an update but didn't get any call back.
After ringing for the third time, I finally got a call back from a repair engineer who told me he was only told to call anyone back 30 minutes prior to ringing me.
As this is a professional tool, if it is taking longer to repair than anticipated , it is important to let the customer know. which they didn't bother to do.
No complaints on the repair engineer, but very poor admin staff.
For a professional tool manufacturer, level of customer service is very poor.''
Makita! Never, ever again.
Re: submersible water pump PF 0410
Firstly the instructions were virtually none existent. The instructions that were there were totally inadequate and written in terrible English. Obviously written by the Chinese to save costs and a chinese person who can't write good English and does not know how to use the product. Makita list this product as working in as little as 40mm of water. Good luck with that, we could only get it to work in water above 700mm deep. Phoned Makita customer service and.............there is none. Got bounced around from one numpty to another until they put me through to a dead line with endless voicemail options. Will never buy Makita again and will never waste another second phoning customer services.
Makita LXT Range
Have to say the Makita LXT range are the best tools that I have ever owned. Currently have a combo drill, drill driver, jigsaw, circular saw and torch. The build quality is incredible and the battery versatility is so handy. Definitely recommend for both amateur and expert use!
Outstanding quality!
Outstanding quality! Why cant we built this quality for close to this price in US?
5 star customer service
My dirty water pump started tripping out the electrics. I contacted customer services via email one evening and received a reply the next morning. I was asked by Makita to return the pump to them which I did. Within a week of posting it I received a courtesy call from Makita advising a new replacement pump was on its way to me for next day delivery. Nothing but 5 stars for my experience of their customer service :)
Great Customer Service
We managed to lose a battery in a flowerbed for a week. After looking everywhere for it and eventually finding it, I contacted Makita to work out if it could safety be used, being that it had got wet. They replied promptly to say we could send the battery to them for testing. The battery failed the test, but they sent us a new one free of charge. Great customer service!
We have a G series drill and it has served us well. We've now bought a jigsaw, hedge trimmer and strimmer in the same range, but haven't used them yet. Hopefully they're just as good!
