I purchased a Makita DUH601Z 18v LXT Brushless Hedge Trimmer Naked in March 2024 for £257 from Powertool Mate. It wasn't highlighted clearly in any of the paperwork that I could extend the warranty to... See more

Makita UK mains power electric chain saw electric motor failure
I returned my Makita electric chain saw to Makita UK service centre in Milton Keynes for service & after a number of calls they found my reply to their quotation. They said that the problem was caused by the chainsaw being run when the brake was applied. Now this is not possible as the safety feature is, it is a two handed operation to run the machine so if you release either hand the machine brake is applied, also if it jambs the brake would apply. Smoke came from the motor after I had cut a log, so it was an electrical fault with the "Chinese" motor
I bought Makita - a big mistake
I bought a Makita Lawn mower and it broke easily within the guarantee period. It got sent back to Makita but when it came back to me 5 weeks and 5 inches of grass growth later it was in the same state. I took it to another Makita registered company who just went silent and stopped answering emails and phonecalls. Makita pretended to take an interest but there has been zero progress and no feedback. I am left waiting..... All they really had to do was keep me informed and if it can't be fixed, give me a new one.

After my makita dfs251z tek gun stopped working , i sent it back as it was under the 3 year warranty period . After inspection from the makita service team , the warranty was said to be void as i had put superglue on the external case . After 20 years of purchasing makita products , i will not be buying anymore , disgraceful .
Hedge clippers
I searched the Internet for hedge clippers NOT made in China and came up with Makita. I bought battery powered clippers and they are absolutely brilliant. Would recommend without hesitation.
Totally disgusting company
Had to send my makita drill back for repair under warranty 3 times because they failed to repair the same fault correctly.
On the third occasion they advised me that it was now no longer under warranty, and i would have to pay for the repair.
When i said i did not want to pay for the repair and requested a return, they returned my drill broken into pieces.
I asked for the complaints procedure, they said they did not have one, but my comments had been noted!
Total disgrace of a company. I will be avoiding Makita products at all costs from now on.
Appalling Makita customer support.
I received a Makita tape measure last year as a Fathers day gift. The tape failed after around 9 months so I contacted Makita customer services. They advised that they could not replace it without having the faulty one returned and that they would arrange collection. A week later I had heard nothing so I contacted them again. The advisor said that he would personally chase it up. Again, nothing happened so I contacted them again. After a further 3 weeks I have still not had any response. It appears that Makita's customer service policy is to ignore disgruntled customers in the hope that they will go away. As much as I admire Makita tools. This experience has taught me to give them a wide birth. I'm just relieved that this wasn't a more expensive bit of kit. Great stuff until something goes wrong. I wont be buying any more Makita products.
Appalling customer service
Appalling customer service. In December I sent back a new plunge saw which was faulty and cutting incorrectly I also sent back a new guide rail which was bent! I received the saw back a few weeks later, however, the saw was still not cutting straight. Your technician was clearly not interested in what I had to say; I’ve only been around power tools for the last forty years! The saw was returned again and thankfully a different technician resolved the problem, by replacing the blade with a proper plunge saw blade and not the cheap piece of rubbish it came with.
As for the guide rail, I am STILL waiting for a replacement; after speaking to several members of your staff on different occasions and being told the same thing, “as soon as one comes in stock we will send it to you ASAP”
SIX MONTHS ON and I am still waiting! Lol.
I would rather you keep the rail as I have now replaced it with a pair of Festool rails…As I am not waste any more time calling you!
I’ve already started changing my kit over to your competitors.
I can truly say that I would never purchase any of your tools again.
I have several apprentices and I have recommended your competitors; DeWalt, Feestool, and Milwaukee for their future tool purchases!

Poor customer service
Poor customer service . Brought a 36 v hoover and it stopped working after 2 years . When purchased I filled out the extended warranty form but never received certificate . They said they cannot repair under warranty . Charged me £342 to fix . No thanks I’ll be using dewalt from now on .
Good kit - poor service
I have a Makita shredder (UD2500). It did fine until it stopped. I phoned them. (a) they gave me the name of a firm that used to service their kit - but do so no longer (b) they gave me a diagnosis of the problem (bin not locked in place) which does not tally with the symptoms (light flashing.)
LATER:
After 3 days it decided to work again - for now. (Best but uncertain hypothesis: dicky motor overheat sensor.) Stuff happens, but still not satisfied with the ability Makita provide for a competent engineer to diagnose and fix such faults. (It is far from easy even to see or find out how to get into the thing!)
Long life drill
12 years ago, in 2009, I bought a Makita 6281D cordless drill/driver.
Years later the battery died and I bought 2 new ones. In the last few months, these batteries have been fading, so I was beginning to calculate whether to buy two more batteries or a new drill. All this time the drill had been working well. A 6 year major house restoration, then a two year new house build.
Two weeks ago it fell off a roof, 8ft to the ground. Unsurprisingly it sounded a bit graunchy, but surprisingly it still worked! Now the batteries are on their last legs so I have had to buy a new drill.
What a terrific piece of kit - 12 years hard work, then still going after a long fall. I suspect most makes are similar, but it says an awful lot for Makita.
EB5000TH keeps going wrong!
First of all, Makita has been great. It's just the Leaf Blower I bought keeps breaking down. It is a EB5000TH and has had so far at least 2 replacement carburettors. When it works properly it is excellent but the issue is that it is short lived and when it goes wrong then any increase in throttle causes the engine to splutter to a halt. Makita tell me it's nothing I am doing but is an issue with the carburettor. I did not expect this from a quality brand. Would I buy this model if I had known about fuel issues, certainly not? The customer service however has been second to none but that doesn't detract from the poor quality of the product.

I dropped my (v expensive & a bit old) drill from the top of a ladder a week before Xmas.
Rang up and arranged to take to the London Depot (Friday).
At the depot I was told it might not be repaired until after NY... :(
Got it back Wednesday (closing time before Xmas).
Congrats to all the Makita people I dealt with; phone, email & in person.
Fantastic!!

Makita in my experience have a good customer service and returns repair.
My DHP481 x4. Yes I have four of them in rotation have been back to repair without problems once ever two months.
My problem is. Why do my drills only work for two months.
I need four of them to get through the year.
Easy answer. Profit.
These so called pro tools are made very cheaply in China now.
Excellent customer service
Excellent customer service. Repaired gearbox on my sds drill and paid for postage to and from. First issue I have had with a makita tool in 16 years of using them but I could not fault the customer service and will continue to use makita.

Bought my husband the brushless Makita impacter and he absolutely loves it!
Amazing customer service…
Bought a Makita drill as a present for my husband a few years ago. He didn't try to use it until recently but batteries wouldn't charge. Phoned Makita and they asked me to return them (paid for by them). They replaced them even though they should be charged every 6 months. Amazing customer service. Well done Makita
