Absolutely amazing staff! Maria and James could not have been more helpful and I would 100% recommend this business to anyone

I bought my car from this dealership at the start of the year and had concerns right away. As soon as I got the car, I took it to Halfords for a routine check to make sure everything was safe. They told me the shock absorbers were faulty and needed urgent repair.

I went back to the dealership, and they dismissed the issue completely, telling me Halfords were lying and that they “always do this.” They refused to take the warning seriously.

Eight months later, my car has been clunking continuously, and after taking it to their garage, I’ve now been told the exact same thing: the shock absorbers are faulty. The problem Halfords spotted from day one was real, and it has now gotten worse.

Overall, I’m extremely disappointed with the way the dealership handled the situation. If they had addressed the issue properly when I first brought it up, I could have avoided months of driving with a potentially unsafe car. I would advise anyone buying from them to get an independent inspection and not rely solely on their word.

I don’t normally leave reviews but feel I need to for our recent car purchase from McCarthy Cars, giving other future customers the benefit of my Experience.

We knew the car we wanted and after an Autotrader search found that McCarthy Cars had one in stock. As we live quite a way from their garage, we called and made sure they still had the vehicle available. We spoke to Maria who said it was a lovely vehicle and McCarthy cars were one of the best in the business. We were told that their cars are checked over and prepared “better than a main dealership”.
We arrived at 10am the next morning and took the car for a test drive and were very happy with the vehicle. I believe this is because of the age, mileage and prestige nature of the car rather than anything the garage had prepared. The vehicle was clean but certainly not to a high standard. The presentation of their forecourt is very disappointing for such a big used vehicle garage.
Our overall disappointment with the garage comes from our experience with Maria and how we felt as her customer.

We felt very rushed, mislead by her comments about the prepared standard of the vehicle (both at first viewing and collection) and her attitude. It is also really disappointing that the garage charge a NON NEGOTIABLE £195 admin fee for all car sales. This adds an additional £195 to the cost of a vehicle you have budgeted for. Maria also tried to sell us a very expensive 3 year warranty which I don’t want as I intended to take out a main dealer extended warranty. Maria told me I couldn’t do this as she used to work for that manufacture and it wasn’t possible. However this was not true and the car is now covered by the manufacture extended warranty which includes servicing, MOT, and roadside breakdown for much less that the package Maria was trying to sell me…

The car we bought was north of £23k but the service we received, and paid £195 for, was very lack lustre. This was made worse by the fact that the V5 for the vehicle was not changed to my name as it “slipped through the net”. This was only rectified when I decided to drive back to the garage to check where it was. Maria then made an excuse saying they normally wait a month before transferring the V5 to a new owners name which was a blatant lie. Just to add insult to injury, they then registered the V5 in the wrong name…..
I am pleased with the car, which in reply I am sure they will highlight. However, any customer at this garage should be prepared to feel like a number, prepare for non displayed additional charges on the cars and the upselling spiel.

I decided to wait before posting this as I wanted to make sure the car had no issues incase it had to go back to them for some reason. It is quite sad to look at it like that but the feeling of being rushed when buying the car and feeling like an inconvenience to Maria has made me wary. I am sure that knowing some of these things before buying a car from them will enhance a buyer experience and hope that McCarthy cars take this constructive feedback and adapt their sales approach.
