Been great up until I changed my bike…
Been great up until I changed my bike and couldn’t get a quote for my new bike. Customer portal kept sending me round in circles and you can’t get to speak to anyone if you need help. The chatbot can only do so much. Such a shame so I had no option but to go elsewhere and speak to a human in a different company

Picking up a new bike in 2 days time
Picking up a new bike in 2 days time. Tried to buy the insurance online, passed all the verifications including my bank authorisation but, final stage wouldn’t go through. Couldn’t phone them but had a Web chat - what a shower - waited for a free representative took 10 minutes. After beginning the chat, things are getting repeated and I tell them ‘you’ve already asked that - they tell me they are dealing with multiple people on line at once. (Oh great, this is going to be like Groundhog Day) Tells me it was because I needed to apply online on bike collection in 2 days - that’s why it won’t go through, I said incorrect - policy start date is on 2 days, set up can be earlier. The tell me I’ve probably got a settings issue on my computer so it probably failed a fraud test. Said but why does the same thing happen on my phone too (I’m then on 5g and not my internet), she said still failing fraud check. Asked to phone them. She said no number.
It was surreal and frustrating because the replies are so long in coming and at almost an hour, decided it just wasn’t worth the hassle because in 30 years of riding, I’ve never made a claim so I genuinely didn’t think buying something was going to be so much hassle. And they’ll know I’m not a problematic customer because a lot of that 30 years, I was a previous customer. Never again!
After all, if I ever needed to make a claim, that sounds like hell.
UPDATE : after receiving a call from MCD following my post here, it was a pleasure to hear MCD saw my post and decided to investigate and call me directly. They explained a slight error and apologised.
Well you cannot say fairer than that. Customer service as it should be. Sadly I’ve purchased elsewhere now, but instead of being excluded next year, they will be my first port of call next year.
So it’s now a 5 star review from me because unprompted, they found my review, acted and sorted it. So a breath of fresh air in the current customer service climate.

Charged me £75 cancellation fee despite…
Motorcycle Direct charged me £75 cancellation fee despite trying to log into their system on the 14 day and it not working as you have to “use their chat facility”, got on the chat to cancel the next morning and had to spend over 40 minutes explaining that I had tried to cancel the day prior but charged anyway! They asked for proof that I tried to cancel and the customer service women was really quite condescending. Stay away from them, I can only imagine how awful they would be if you needed to claim.
In response to their response, it was the following morning that I cancelled my policy and not 48 hours after, your referral fees from comparison websites are not your customers problems! Your fees are astronomical

When completing the quotation online, you would have been provided with a summary of cover, along with our Terms of Business before completing the purchase. These documents explain any administration fees, including when they apply. By proceeding with the purchase you would been required to confirm your acceptance of these terms along with the risk information being correct and accurate.
On review of your individual circumstance, we can see your policy was cancelled 2 days after the cooling off period expired. After this period expires our fees increase from £40.00 to £75.00 due to applicable fee that Insurance comparison sites charge insurers for introducing customers.
