Ofgem's role and responsibilities as…

Ofgem's role and responsibilities as stated on its website. I've capitalised the important sections on CONSUMERS:

We are responsible for:

- working with government, industry and consumer groups to deliver a net-zero economy, AT THE LOWEST COST TO CONSUMERS
- stamping out sharp and bad practice, ensuring FAIR TREATMENT FOR ALL CONSUMERS, especially the vulnerable
- enabling competition and innovation, WHICH DRIVES DOWN PRICES and results in new products and services for consumers.

The complete opposite of what they are achieving. So by any measure OFGEM is an EPIC FAIL!!!!
Why do they continue to exist?
Should have zero stars!

Officially destroying the UK economy

Ofgem are literally fuelling the profits of energy companies whilst also destroying the lives of everyone in the UK.

Households will have no disposable income, so will not spend money. Economic catastrophe.

Businesses cannot afford to be open. Destroying competition and collapsing the high street. Economic catastrophe.

This service needs a thorough review and new direction.

We should be for the many - not for the few.

I am totally dismayed at Ofgem supporting profiteering over the lives of the citizens of the UK. At a time when energy companies are announcing record breaking profits, forcing these increases on the public is outrageous. You’re pushing millions of us into fuel poverty. As a disabled Mum with disabled children we are struggling with our fuel use already. I spent most of last winter wrapped up in blankets but at least I could afford to wash my children's clothes.

Disgusting and corrupt

Ofgem, you are absolutely disgusting and corrupt to the core. Do you realise that people are actually going to die this winter because of the decisions you are making? Elderly people are going to freeze to death in their homes. Many people will be made homeless and freeze/starve because of the greed and corruption you have chosen to support. You should have the full weight of that on your conscience. You had a chance to make a change for the better. You are a disgrace.

Disgusting

This is a regulatory body who is meant to work in the interests of the people. Instead they have allowed a price cap rise which will knowingly send many more people into fuel poverty.
Have a look at the #dontpayuk campaign for some actions you can take as ofgem are not working in the interests of the people, only of big business.

Price Cap

How am I meant to explain to my children why we can either choose to eat or heat our homes this winter.
Ofgem seem to be more interested in protecting profits rather than protecting people.

Failed body not fit to serve

Set up to protect people by regulating the energy market.
They have failed this and instead now raise the energy cap to a price millions cannot afford. They know people cannot afford this but only care for the profits of energy company executives.
The haven't helped me and they won't help you

Most useless regulator in history

Most useless regulator in the history of regulation.
When about half of UK gas consumption comes from UK gas production, setting a price "cap" (hah!) on the basis of 100% imported gas is absolutely bananas.
Corrupt, morally bankrupt institution with literally no redeeming features.

Very poor

Very poor, not doing their job and instead helping the big gas and electricity providers make bumper profits at the detriment to those who can least afford it. About time privatisation was reversed so there was no need for this sham of a regulator!

Not a good company

In bed with energy suppliers, raising the cap well above an affordable level, they will be responsible for many deaths this winter, they need to be stopped, and NOW!

Why is the ombudsman defending AVRO ENERGY?

You seem to think that you can fob off any negative feedback and close a justifiable case bought before you without the due diligence you are obliged to provide to your "customers" customers you actively attracted to justify your existance.
In my case, the evidence submitted against AVRO ENERGY still exists in your system ?

Utter failure of regulation

In my view, Ofgem has completely failed in its statutory duty to “protect consumers and improve the energy system” by allowing rogue operators such as the failed Avro Energy to enter the energy market. In line with expert guidance advising consumers to change suppliers in pursuit of better deals, I switched from British Gas to Avro Energy on 29th July 2021, i.e. less than two months before the latter’s collapse. In that short time, Avro Energy managed to make a complete mess of my gas account. First of all, its website allowed me to enter only four digits for my gas readings, which, of course, contain five digits. In effect, Avro Energy was rejecting my, always correct, gas readings, instead substituting them with its own – clearly, entirely fictional ones. It then passed those incorrect readings on to Octopus Energy, to whom I had been reallocated by your organisation. On the basis of this, wholly inaccurate, information, which Octopus Energy had failed to double-check for many months, this organisation threatened us (my husband and me) with an absurd 700% increase in our annual energy cost, which caused us huge shock and distress. The failed Avro Energy also managed to conjure up a fairy tale suggesting that our meter had somehow been changed (it never had: it was installed when our house was built in 1991, and, since we moved there in 1998, I have steadfastly refused to have SMET1 put in, SMET2 not being available) and that it was imperial (complete nonsense). And you actually approved such a cowboy outfit??? Distressed by Octopus’s insane projection of our annual gas cost (made on the basis of Avro’s incorrect information), I submitted a formal complaint (no 230888) to this organisation as well as alerting two national consumer champions to such an egregious case of organisational negligence. Although Octopus Energy has now fully upheld my complaint against it, I am in the process of making the national media (including Martin Lewis CBE, Executive Chair of MSE) aware of serious organisational failures on the part of Ofgem, Avro Energy and Octopus Energy.

Corruption runs deep.

I saw one review that said, what the point of a price cap. This is by now seen as absolutely true. But I also feel that there is no point in even having a organisation such as ofgem. Ofgem is funded by the big fish suppliers, so I used to wonder where ofgems loyalty really lies. Well it's now obvious to me that ofgems loyalties lie with the big fish energy companies. Corruption runs deep in offgem. I am certain Brearley, the so called CEO is receiving not only big benefits for what he doesn't do and does do, but also back handers in brown envelopes. These corrupt organisations need to be closed down. Or better still place genuine honest, high ranking staff in place. Who would keep these energy companies in their place. Along with their shareholders. I for one would fight my corner to put a stop to all of this. But what we need is professionals to light the fuse of rebellion. Trust me people, things are going to get more and more worse. It is your choice to believe me or not. I'm not going to sit here and keyboard in my evidence of this. However, the evidence is out their and clear to see.
One thing that we all must believe is that "Nothing in politics ever happens by accident" corruption runs deep people, very deep. It does not matter who you are working class, middle class etc. You are not immune to the poverty that's will take root over the next few years. Fight back now or regret it in the future.

The average household does not exist.

Price cap to increase by £693 from April!

Personally I just want to know the maximum daily standing charge for a meter and the cost per kwh. OFGEM seem to think your supplier will tell you if they are overcharging you - which isn't quite how overcharging works.

OFGEM might have the information (search for 'OFGEM default tariff cap'). The one I'm looking at is the "Benchmark Maximum Charges for the Eighth Charge Restriction Period" - in English this would be 1 April 2022 to 30 September 2022 but that isn't on the document. How true or relevant it is is anyone's guess.

Attempting to see through the OFGEM obfuscation field:

Starting with gas, the Nil kWh column seems seems to be the annual charge for the meter. The m(12,000 kWh) column might be the average customer - the significance of this isn't made clear. Assuming 'Other Payment Method' means 'Direct Debit' and looking at this table (Gas) first:
Meter standing charge has increased from £90.81 to £94.62 - allowing for a generous annual inflation rate of around 10%.
The Northern region will have the lowest cap at 7.67 p/kWh.
London will have the highest cap at 7.94 p/kWh.
Either OFGEM can't perform simple arithmetic or anyone who isn't an 'm' average customer might have a lower or higher cap - they are unable or unwilling to make this clear.
Moving on to electricity, staying with 'Other Payment Method' - Direct Debit?
I don't know what Multi-Register Metering Arrangement means (they don't say) so just looking at Single-Rate Metering..
The Nil kWh column (standing charge?) in the Northern region has increased from £107.16 to £170.03 so (by my calculations) 250% annual inflation which has (surprise!) been overshadowed by gas price increases.
Still in the Northern region the new m(3,100kWh) rate looks like 31.4 p/kWh, up 44% from 21.7 p/kWh in the previous (seventh) charge period which covered 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.
The m(4,200kWh) customer seems to be an average customer who uses more electricity than an average m(3,100kWh) customer and they get a (well earned) 10% discount.
