Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 35 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people encountered significant problems with trade-in assessments, often having their devices rejected or devalued for alleged damage or claims of not being factory reset. Reviewers expressed frustration and a sense of unfairness, particularly when devices they believed were in excellent condition were given zero value, despite careful preparation and documentation. However, some customers also noted positive experiences with the refund process. A few people reported receiving the full estimated trade-in value and their refunds were processed quickly. These individuals found the process to be straightforward when their device valuation matched the initial estimate.

Poor service, should be zero stars

Very disappointed with Google for using PCS as a partner for trade in.

I sent a 6 month old, barely used Pixel 7a and they reported it as "unknown device" 🤣 with a value of £0.
Complaint was worthless as they, and Google, aren't bothered.
The lack of any response from PCS to these reviews speaks volumes.

Quite the scam

Got a new Pixel 8a with the May 2024 promo on offering £150 "enhanced" trade-in. Submitted a Samsung S9, and if I selected "turns on, no cracks, screen works properly" I'd be offered £208. If I selected "turns on" I would get £190.
PCS Wireless received the phone, and claim they don't know what model it is... they also says the phone has cracks and burn in. So, they gave a value of £0. Should be all fine, but when trading-in the website clearly stated that it only needed to turn on to be offered £190.
I won't fight the additional £18, but official complain now with Google Store to get the £190.
Unbelievable poor service.

wouldn't bother using these people, said my phone did not reach the required percentage value which initially I thought was over priced, they fell a fraction short of the 75 percent requirement and refused my phone, but of a scam I think, steer clear

Can't Believe Google Associate with This Company

I used this service to trade in my old phone for a Google Pixel 8 - my phone had cracks in the screen, but otherwise was in working condition. This was stated, as required by Google, when sending the trade in to PCS Wireless. It was also factory reset ahead of time, again as requested.

PCS rejected the trade in as the phone had cracks in the screen and was not factory reset. Why are they allowed to use a reason I had previously stated and they knew about ahead of time as a reason to reject the trade in - alongside a lie? The phone was factory reset, and yet this was used as a reason to reject?

Truly laughable, it makes me suspect that they reject some phones deliberately so that the rebate promised does not have to be paid out.

I am appalled by the handling of the…

I am appalled by the handling of the whole trade in process, I sent in a Pixel 7 Pro, with original box, unused charging cables and manuals, they decided the phone was worth nothing due to apparently having burn in on upper corner in charging %, which is a known fault with first versions of Pixel 7 Pro. The phone was immaculate, no scratches or damage whatsoever, turning on and functioning as it should. The phone got returned in horrid condition, scratches and covered in sticky stuff without any of the packaging or items I sent. I just don't feel they handled my property with respect or any decency. I am now going via Google to try and sort this as it's just not right.

All went smoothly

Read lots of bad reviews after buying my Pixel 8 Pro and arranging trade in of my old Samsung S10 5G, so I was worried! However, the trade in pack arrived with 48 hours and the return is 24 hour Royal Mail tracked. They let me know when it was received and within a week I had the full amount of the estimate credited to Klarna who I used to fund the phone.

Traded in my iPhone 12 Pro via Google's trade-in program

Traded in my iPhone 12 Pro via Google's trade-in program to buy a Google Pixel 8. My phone had a cracked screen and several scratches etc. Was quoted £255.00 - in contrast with Apple who were offering £0 (nothing). The best I could find was around £90.

I'd imagine Google are subsidising trade-ins when buying a Google Pixel (i.e. bumping up the quote) so this experience may differ if you're going direct.

The process was smooth with the packaging arriving soon after my new Pixel - and they confirmed the amount within a few days and the money was in the account the next day.

AVOID USING THIS SERVICE

Same story as many other reviews unfortunately... On my 3rd Pixel phone now, and have use this trade-in service via Google store successfully once before. This time around, I sent my Pixel 6 in the trade-in kit provided, following all instructions, with the hopes of getting £160 back - only to be told that the trade in value was £0 because of damage to the device (which was pretty much immaculate when dispatched). They sent me my phone back with a nasty crack in the corner and two hairline cracks across the screen - all of which were certainly not there before. This might have happened when being handled in transit, but after reading other reviews, it seems as though PCS Wireless have form for intentionally breaking and voiding devices. Now I'm left with a broken phone, a higher monthly bill on my new device, utterly atrocious customer service from Google support, and no way of directly contacting PCS. Avoid using this service at all costs - it's a scam and you will never get the money you were promised.

Sting operation-Do not use

*Sting operation*. Do not use. After reading the horror stories about this company i decided to set up a sting operation and carried out a trade in with Google. I video and took pictures of my trade device fully operating, in prestine condition and fully operational. PCS wireless reported it broken and not working and then sent me a completely different device back, this being the broken and non operational device, which upon receiving i video myself opening after directly receiving from Royal Mail. Do not fall for the sim swap IMEI trick. All evidence has been sent to Google and Trading Standards UK, Communication Ombudsman UK, including local police force as i perceive this to be fraud. Looking forward to seeing how they resolve this with their client Google, and how they will explain their service to TSUK, COUK and hopefully the police. Everyone should carry out due dilligence before initiating a service, most definately business' such as Google, especilly when there are companies with this kind of service, and protect themselves from reputational damage and finacial loss, just as i have from their service. Keep an eye on social Media/news chanels.

Traded in my Pixel4a and after reading…

Traded in my Pixel4a and after reading the negative reviews here I took a LOT of photos of my phone, screen on and off, all angles, how it was packed, including IMI number.

Took 4 working days between delivery and the full estimated amount being credited to my card.

Can't complain with that, I was braced for a negative experience, but everything went butter smooth. Would be happy to trade in the next phone with PCS.

I'm based in the UK, maybe the US experience is different, but my experiance was good.

Tried twice with Pixel 6, £0 both times for different reasons

Bought a Pixel 8 over Christmas 2023 with the promise of £190 back on my Pixel 6. Sent in the Pixel 6 as instructed, factory reset, perfect screen etc. Had email that the phone was being returned to me and value was £0. Assessed device condition GOOGLE PIXEL 6 (128GB) Device isn't factory reset. Response from Google was that the decision of their trade-in partner is final, so I am returning the Pixel 8 for a refund instead. Received a refund and bought another Pixel 8 in January 2024. This time promise of £210 trade-in. Had email that phone was being returned to me and value was £0. Assessed device condition GOOGLE PIXEL 6 (128GB) Device body is damaged. The device was not damaged before I sent it, and even if it was the trade-in criteria is unlocked phone, turns on, screen not damaged. Such a waste of time having to set these phones up and return them when the trade-in fell through. Don't think I'll try it again and now I have a damaged Pixel 6 to sort out.

Valuation honoured and quick turnaround

I have to say after seeing these reviews I wasn't expecting a good outcome, however after purchasing a Google phone, I sent off my old phone and within a few days it was inspected, and I received the exact valuation that was quoted at point of purchase.

Mostly hassle-free

I bought a new Pixel 8 and the trade-in price for my Pixel 5 was £170, which seemed pretty good. I received a returns box and envelope a few days before my new phone. My Pixel 5 was mint condition and I factory reset it etc. as required and sent it back just before the guaranteed value timed out! At first the returns packaging seemed inadequate but then I realised you are supposed to tuck the phone inside a "pouch" that the cardboard flap forms, I don't recall the instructions pointing that out.
The main annoyance is that to get the phone tracked fully is to take it to a Royal Mail Service Point. This is NOT post offices, it's a sorting offices, of which most have pretty limited opening hours these days. I do appreciate that other options have a higher cost though.

I was worried looking at the reviews

I was worried looking at the reviews. But still was ready to take the risk. I was offered £330 for my iPhone 11 64GB which I believe it's a very very good offer. I sent it back and in a week time the refunded the full £330 to my account. Good luck.

SCAM - don’t make the mistake of sending your phone here as a trade in deal with a new Google phone!!!

Update - 28/10/23 my phone has been returned today, unpacked and turned on and it was at factory reset so the reason given was an absolute lie! Have contacted Google who are looking into it and it’s also all on video of the unpacking. So basically PCS are not fulfilling the contract they have entered with Google and myself as a third party!!

Hopefully Google will change to a different 3rd party so that their customers are not scammed by PCS. Google are offering the trade in value and getting people to upgrade and PCS are marking the phones as £0 - they obviously have an influx of phones traded in and don’t want them all so lying so they don’t have to accept them!

Will be taking this further until we receive the £273 for the trade in phone as per the contract we entered!

Sent in my Google pixel 7 as part of the trade in - full factory reset and have evidence to prove this! Had email from them telling me it’s not factory reset so they won’t honour the £273 trade in as part of the package of my new phone and valued it at £0!!!!

Absolutely livid, when it’s returned I will be recording the unopening of my phone when it returns back and taking this up with Google like everyone else! It’s so wrong as Google are sending us to this company and they are even worse than MusicMagpie and they are a bunch of cowboys!!
Won’t let this drop either!! Also they tell you they don’t want the box and this has been put out in the recycling!
Sent my phone to them over 2 weeks ago and just had the email.

Total scam of a company and will be updating when the phone comes back!!

Great, fast service. Paid what it said it would.

Update 24/11/2023: following positive first experience I traded in a Pixel 4 when purchasing a Pixel 7a. Offered £112. Surprised as the Pixel 4 is pretty old now so was fairly certain it wouldn't be honoured but it was. Sent off on 16 Nov and received confirmation of trade on 24 Nov. Can't fault the service.

18/10/2023: Trade value estimated at £190 (Pixel 6). Sent off Friday. Received by PCS Monday, assessment completed on Wednesday and £190 received same day. Actually amazed as I'd done a few searches beforehand and nowhere else was offering anywhere near that - most were round the £100 mark with stipulations around battery health. Not a thing to fault.
