I went to Cusco, Peru, on the Language and Cultural Immersion Programme. As there was no one else at my Spanish level, I had four hours of private Spanish lessons from Monday to Friday. This had its pros and cons. My lessons were tailored to my needs, I could work at my own pace, and my teacher really pushed me to improve my speaking skills. However, concentrating for four hours of one-to-one lessons could be tiring, and it also meant I had fewer opportunities to meet other people on the project. I had a good amount of free time to explore, and booking my Machu Picchu trip through the project was a real highlight. It was well organised and communication was excellent throughout. I also stayed with a Peruvian host family, which was one of my favourite parts of the experience. They were incredibly caring and welcoming, and living with them encouraged me to speak more Spanish in everyday situations. I also loved trying their homemade Peruvian food. My advice to future volunteers would be to make the most of every opportunity to practise Spanish, even if you make mistakes, and to get involved in activities and trips outside the programme. Overall, it was a great experience in a beautiful part of the country
Meeting new people and helping kids while traveling and exploring Peru was amazing. I made so many new friends and went on so many adventures.
I had an absolutely incredible experience taking Spanish classes at Proyecto Peru and living with a host family in Cusco. Cusco is an amazing city to be located in. It was safe, beautiful, and there was so much to experience in and around the area. I highly recommend going during the Inti Raymi festival in June, as it was an amazing opportunity to experience the beautiful Andean culture! My host family was wonderful, and all my meals were provided. On top of speaking with my family in the house, taking classes during the week improved my Spanish so much. I highly recommend this program to anyone wanting to improve their Spanish and immerse themselves in the vibrant Peruvian culture.

Just a feeder company, completely different company who deal with you in Peru. If you don't speak fluent Spanish then the trip is pointless as no staff will engage with you on the volunteering placement. Host family are great though!

I participated in the Wildlife Rescue Center program in Cusco, Peru, and I had a great time. My host family was incredibly kind and welcoming, and the food was delicious, so I felt at home in no time. The pre-departure support was excellent—all of my questions were answered very quickly, and the handbook was also quite helpful. The in-country staff were extremely friendly and supportive as well. During my project, I worked with rescued animals and mainly helped by cleaning the cages. If you’re interested in the same program, my advice would be to be prepared to get dirty—but it’s absolutely worth it.

Volunteering in Peru was a wonderful experience that I would totally recommend to all who are interested. Peru is an amazing city with so much life. The people are incredibly sweet and welcoming, and the landscape is beautiful. There is so much to do in your free time, from shopping at the local markets to hiking and exploring the Andes Mountains. I worked as a childcare volunteer, and I had the best time meeting and getting to know the children. As a volunteer, I helped and provided support to the teacher and kids with daily activities such as teaching, cleaning, playing sports, feeding, and more. My accommodation was also a highlight of my time in Peru. My host family was lovely, and they provided me with a comfortable place to sleep and delicious meals. Overall, my experience could not have gone better!
