Peru is a great country to volunteer and get to know a different culture.
Lots of time sitting around doing nothing.
This was as an amazing experience. While it is not for the people unwilling to spend most of their time outside their comfort zone, it will lead to so much growth for everyone involved.
We had a great time on our medical placement in Peru!
Organisation and communication from PMGY prior to the programme was excellent. Easy and smooth transition of management from PMGY to Proyecto Peru once in-country. My host family were brilliant, so welcoming and very accommodating. Great opportunity to add on Spanish lessons alongside the programme, would definitely recommend. It would be even better if more detailed information was provided about the distribution of specific costs for the programme. Once in-country it would have been better if I had received my placement/programme schedule further in advance and not a few days before starting.

The project was great. I did feel like the things I had to do were kind of basic, such as cutting paper. But I guess if that is what they needed, then that’s what I’m here for.

Peru is an amazing place to volunteer and travel to.
Peru is a place with such a variety of things you can do and explore. I really liked being at a school and teaching kids English. It was a fulfilling time and also you can use the weekends to see more about the country. I was located in Cusco and it was nice to have so many places like Machu Picchu, Lake Humantay and the Rainbow moutain just around the corner.
I volunteered in Peru for 3 months and had a great time there. The family looked after you and the food was good. There was so much to do in Cusco and many trips you could book to see from the Amazon rainforest to Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu. My volunteering placement was working in the afterschool club and I enjoyed it very much. The kids were great and I had the opportunity to run my own classes and activities. I would recommend to learn some Spanish before as very few people spoke English and it would make things more difficult at your volunteering placement.
Peru is an amazing place! The city of Cusco has a fascinating history and is stunning in so many ways. I would recommend to anyone who wishes to explore South America in an authentic way.

It was pretty good
My experience was unforgettable! I was very well prepared with an extensive handbook, which is a long read with informations about every possible question you could have. The placement with the organisation in peru worked very well and I did not have to contact pgmy once because they offer a lot of support and proyecto peru takes care care of problems as soon as they come up. Though you notice that proyecto peru has more experience on some projects than on others, but the Team was very hands in and invested into improving them. My project was the afterschool project at Colibri, where I worked with Kids aged 6 to 12, they were so nice and funny and it was really rewarding to stay there for a bit longer to see the many ways in which they improved over time and to get to know them better. It is very necessary to have own ideas and little projects to do with the kids, they are very interested and will join you when you start, but otherwise it will just be the same activities every single day (mostly drawing and homework). The project "bosses" were the kindest and most understanding people and everyone was taking great care of the kids. If you like doing arts and crafts and are patient and good at explaining then I highly recommend this project as the kids will become your best friends over time and they truly do appreciate all the help they can get! I stayed in a host family, but depending on how social you want to be and how much privacy you need, the volunteer house might be more suiting for you. I had a lot of privacy and could rest undisturbed when I needed to, but I had less contact with the rest of the volunteers as i did not live close to the proyecto peru house. The host family was super king tho and I talked to them every night and improved my spanish, the food was delicious and I felt very at home. Overall a great experience and Peru is a stunning country with so much to see and explore during the weekends or after your volunteering work!
Wonderful host family, Nancy was amazing. The wildlife was an amazing opportunity, the side trips were perfect for exploring Peru
You will meet a lot nice people and make new friends you will also feel helpful and useful in your Projects
