ShopRite rude, disinterested, unprofessional, and unhelpful

ShopRite – Enfield, Connecticut ★☆☆☆☆

Visited on November 11, 2025, around 1:45 PM while traveling from Massachusetts. The staff here are rude, disinterested, unprofessional, and unhelpfulmany look disheveled, hungover, or simply not in good condition to be assisting customers, as if they did not want to be there. I asked a worker who was stocking meat where I could find the pork section. His initial response, “in the refrigerator that holds the pork,” was unhelpful and dismissive. When I politely explained that I wasn’t familiar with the store layout, he reluctantly pointed me in the right direction. Another time, I asked where to pick up a pre-purchased order, and the deli worker questioned me instead of simply directing me. A different employee finally showed me the area. Overall, this store has poor customer service and unprofessional staff. I would not recommend this location until management improves employee conduct, training, and hires individuals who don’t come to work hungover.

I will never go back to ShopRite

I will never go back to ShopRite. They sell vegetables at twice the price of the farmer’s market in New Providence — and the quality is the same. On top of that, they often charge more at the register than the price shown in the store. I’ve noticed this several times.

This time, when I mentioned it to the cashier, she told me to go to customer service to fix it — meaning I had to stand in another line just to correct a few dollars. This isn’t a random mistake; it feels like a systematic error. When I told her that the mistakes always seem to be in the store’s favor, she confidently said, “That’s the way it should be,” clearly knowing the store would support her rather than hold her accountable.

Lousy experience

Lousy experience. We always use curbside for groceries because we have 3 small children and it’s just safer for us. We typically go to ShopRite in Mt laurel or marlton and have always been fine. Tonight we picked up a curbside order at Burlington. Checked in before starting a 25 min drive to the store, then checked in “here” out front. We waited over 15 mins for the order to come out, I pop the trunk and the attendant leaves my cart back there, goes in the store, and locks the door! Target, Wegmans, and all the other shoprites…never had someone just leave a cart and walk away.

The icing on the cake was when I get home I’m missing an item. I call and I’m told they can’t credit the item; my only recourse is to drive another 50 minute round trip to pick it up. Their system “isn’t set up” to refund me the couple of dollars.

There were other small issues too that I won’t bother to mention. Absolutely horrible. I’ll find out who runs the store and avoid their locations.

At times you will get rotten…

At times you will get rotten vegetables. The worst bakery of all shopping stores. Nothing in their bakery is good. I prefer to go to Wegmans and Acme to buy any cakes or deserts. Not good quality deserts made from them. Sometimes their food are expired so make sure you check before you buy.

Horrible grocery store to shop at!!!!

The shoprite in Millburn NJ is unbearably horrible!!! In March 2025 I bought some pistachio cookies that was on sale from their bakery, and within a couple of days I started experiencing strong stomach pains, and disturbing digestive issues. Both issues have lasted for months!! I was suffering and couldn't hardly eat nor drink anything like I used to be able to a couple years ago. Now September 27, 2025 and my doctors recently had me go for a CT scan on my stomach. And my physician has diagnosed me with possible stomach ulcer and acid reflux as the culprits for my stomach pains and digestive issues. All this from eating foods from the bakery department of shoprite in Millburn NJ. I try not to shop at that store too much anymore except to buy a bag of ice. If I buy a carton of mushrooms from that store I Always wash the mushrooms off thoroughly after I get home. And the shoprite supervisor, manager Always ridiculously hikes the prices on their items more than any other shoprite store does.

Shoprite of Washington NJ deserves zero…

Shoprite of Washington NJ deserves zero stars. Employees in general are nasty and rude. Store layout makes no sense at all. I'd love to meet the genius that decided to put the peanut butter and bread in the dairy aisle. The breadcrumbs are in the dairy aisle too.

Then there are the A and B aisles. Another genius thought of that as well. If you are on the A end of the aisle you have nonidea what is down the B side of that aisle. Zero logic with this setup. The Clinton NJ store is the same way. It's an idiotic design that causes customers to spend more time finding items. Saker Shoprites do not have this mronic layout.

The employees at self checkout are the nastiest you could ever meet. If you have a pricing issue some nasty black lady will come over and argue with you instead of helping. Why does this person work there? She was screaming like a lunatic for a manager. Two guy come over and resolved the issue. They also explained that the Shoprite in Washington NJ charges more for food items than other Shoprites in the area. Clinton Shoprite is 10.minutes away, and their dairy prices are 20% less. So basically the Shoprite of Washington happily overcahrges more than their Clinton store which is owned by the same owner. Makes zero sense.

Between the nasty, rude and lazy employees and the terrible store layout I will no longer shop at the Washington locations. 100% managements fault all day for not seein the issues with their employees and not properly.managing their store.

Im a 40 year SR shopper. My experience with Shoprites in Monmouth County NJ was always good. However moving to Burlington County 4 years ago the SR stores here are very low quality and higher prices. Terrible produce quality, limited meat choices, terrible fresh bread choices (they have no clue what Italian bread is). So I am no longer a SR customer. Now a Wegman shopper the quality is like night and day!

Ran in at 9am 9/8/25 to grab 2 things at 9am.
Stood in line for SELF checkout ( 3 people in front of me and 3 behind me) when i finally got to my register it was card only ( which i hate to charge $15) Was not about to get back in line. There should never only be 3 self check out registers open at any time. Bad enough that I am scanning and checking out my own stuff but then have to stand in line because the registers are not open. Very disappointed and this is the reason why I normally shop at wegmans

RE: Mold, debris, spider webs, contaminated food

RE: Health Issues: SHOPRITE (store #413) 1568 CHESTER PIKE, UNIT B1, DELAWARE COUNTY, EDDYSTONE, PA 19022

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing out of deep concern and frustration regarding a serious mold infestation at the only market serving our neighborhood. I have made several attempts to address this matter directly with the business, but those efforts have been completely ignored. There has been absolutely no regard for the health and well-being of the community — especially those of us who suffer from allergies or other health conditions.

The cost of living is already extremely high, and yet we are forced to shop in an environment that is hazardous. I now believe that my own recent illness may have been directly linked to exposure at ShopRite.

I have documented this issue extensively through videos, and I am willing to provide them as evidence. I’m not sure if all the files will attach to this message, but I can provide them upon request or upload them through an alternate method if needed.

I am pleading with your office(s) to take this matter seriously and act swiftly to investigate and hold this business accountable. The community deserves a clean, safe place to buy food and necessities — not a health hazard disguised as a grocery store.

Since I made several attempts to address this privately and the dangerous issues were disregarded, I publicly went on X to address the Collins family.

Thank you & I hope for a speedy solution for myself & community

“Our family-owned stores have been rooted in the Philadelphia area since 1995. We pride ourselves on our tradition of families serving families. In addition to operating four ShopRite stores that are known for providing fresh, high-quality foods, exceptional customer service and access to local jobs, our family also donates to groups that work to reduce hunger and end violence.”

-The Collins Family

These photos and videos were taken at the ShopRite Market location:

1568 CHESTER PIKE, UNIT B1, DELAWARE COUNTY, EDDYSTONE, PA 19022 (e.g., store #413), owned by the Collins family. They show a disturbing and unacceptable level of neglect inside the store’s refrigerated food displays.

I have reported this disgraceful sanitation problem to staff multiple times — and each time, I was ignored. My concerns have clearly fallen on deaf ears.

Unbeknownst, I found mold on your product.
I purchased a product from this location that had mold inside. At first, I thought it might have been a manufacturing defect — but after seeing the condition of these refrigerators, I now know better:
This is ShopRite negligence, plain and simple.

This is how the Collins family — owners of not just this store, but three other ShopRite locations — treat the very communities who keep their business alive.

Deplorable Conditions Include:

Visible mold, grime, and buildup in refrigeration vents and cold-air circulation grills.

Black seals and trim covered in debris — a clear sign of chronic neglect.

Rust and staining around airflow areas.

Food residue and debris stuck in the vent mesh and underneath units.

Unclean surfaces in direct proximity to perishable, consumable goods.

Why This Is a Serious Health Hazard:

Mold and bacteria are easily airborne and can contaminate nearby foods.

Plastic and metal can host mold if organic material (dust, grime) and moisture are present — and that’s clearly the case here.

Mold exposure can cause respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and serious illness.

Certain molds produce mycotoxins and aflatoxins — dangerous substances that can make people extremely sick, or worse, DEATH.

The store’s neglect is absolutely in violation of health codes and contributing to unsafe food conditions.

Personal Impact:

During the time I continued shopping at this store, I became sick — and after multiple rounds of antibiotics and medical screenings, I’m starting to question:
“Was I unknowingly exposed to contaminated food or mold spores in your store?”

I have medical documentation to support that I suffered from respiratory illness during this time.

How many others have been affected without realizing it?

To the Collins Family:

You’ve made public statements claiming to “care about the community.”
This says otherwise.

While your own home's fridge units are likely spotless and protected, we are exposed to dangerous conditions that could cost someone their health — or worse, their life. This is not just unacceptable — it’s shameful.

📣 MEMO TO CUSTOMERS:

Start documenting. Report these stores. Take photos. File complaints. If nothing is done — EXPOSE THEM.

We deserve clean, safe environments where we shop and feed our families. If the owners won’t take action, it’s up to us to hold them accountable.

seafood Fest gone wrong

once a year, me and my family have a party and every year for about four years we’ve gotten lobsters from ShopRite, but this year I noticed that my tail was a little skinny so I switched with my brother, and when I opened his disappointment just filled my face I opened a goopy mess. It was disgusting and we proceeded to open all the lobster tails, and they were all the same so if I can tell you one thing that is do not buy lobsters here
