Disappointed

Shopped with Smith City for 20 years purchasing all of my household items there. Just recently, purchased 2 beds at $3000 each and other items, totally about $7000. Waited 3 weeks for beds to arrive instore.
Had prearranged and paid delivery. Found out after beds arrived at store, the truck only delivers twice a month. When I was told the delivery dates, I was working those days and told they couldn't arrange another date. I've now arranged and paid for someone else to pick up and deliver beds.
I have always had items on HP over the 20 years and AAA credit rating, paying items off before end of contract. This time I had to complete a whole new application and wait for approval.
Smiths City, shame on you! You have lost ANOTHER customer. I will NOT return to your store!

I had been a loyal customer at Smiths…

I had been a loyal customer at Smiths City, spending over 30,000 with them over the past 25 years. And today I got declined hire purchasing a vacuum cleaner despite having had years of previous hire purchasing history with them. I can't believe 25 years of good credit and proof of my abilities to pay means absolutely nothing now. It's not even the purchase, I can go elsewhere, but the fact loyalty means nothing to these companies now.

I bought an interwood queen bed from…

I bought an interwood queen bed from Smith city while sleeping on it with just one person on it the bed collapsed. It is of poor quality. The pins broke and the wood just snapped off. It’s not the first item I have bought from the store that broke or went on fire Out of 10 items I bought I had a problem with five. It’s a shame that the warranties only last for a year as you might get 2 to 4 years out of them and these are expensive items. Some of them $2000 each. The store does not have good contact with you on returns. This is my first review I’ve ever written But after the fifth item broke I was pretty angry,
you think they would have some sort of rules around safety on products? they’re answer to everything is well I can’t do anything it’s past its warranty

Shocking unreliable service and attitude.

Lack of communication costing us electrical fees for a no turn up delivery. Even though we got apologies there were too many issues eg we had to chase them, and we were to be blamed if anything went wrong with a private delivery that was not using their truck but was using their staff. Fortunately there was no damage. The oven arrives but low and behold no plug lead provided and no warning about that, so we sent electrician away. The oven is in the house but not installed. The electrician will return at a further cost. I spoke to the Nelson manager and while apologies were made we were made to feel we were at fault as we insisted on getting the oven delivered but only as arranged with them in the first place. I was told that re the plug on lead that the staff could not be expected to remember every detail of every appliance. Smith City the plug in is a major not a minor remembrance. Please don't blame the buyer when you don't deliver, don't communicate with the customer and then tell the customer you aren't responsible for any potential damage in transit. This is your issue not mine and while I was glad to receive my oven it was hugely stressful and upset my entire day. Please train your staff to know how to plug an appliance in and what's needed and where to find it so that installation can be completed and customers are not left in the lurch. Also please update airpoints administration on a sale. Again I had to ring and chase this with no email saying it had been done.
My recommendations are that your delivery team needs to communicate with the customer not have us chase them. We should not have to wonder what's going on during a no show.
Warn us if we can't get a plug in because it dosent come with the appliance.
Your manager could have defended the staff less instead of casting blame our way for being "demanding". We found your receiptionist as helpful as she could be
But obviously can't control services in other departments .if you want to support the customer learn more about what you are selling and what are the potential conflicts so that installation does not become a problem.
Delivery team please use your phones. The rest of us have deadlines as well.
Manager, she was more interested in being defensive for the team and making us feel we were asking way too. much. Hang on we are the customers. I hope you used our phone call as you say for training and customer service in the future. You don't provide fast delivery. It was the opposite.
I am promised a refund on delivery fee which I expect as soon as possible and I will not use the service again.

Parting with money but no product.

If you think you can walk into Smiths City and walk out with a product, forget it!!!!
The first product was a bed, 12 weeks I had to wait. I had bought a mattress but without the bedframe it was no use to me. Not only did they have my money but then they were going to charge me for storage of the mattress!!!! Thank goodness this time the manager came to the rescue but I still had to wait an unreasonable amount of time and had to chase it up because heard nothing for 10-11 weeks!
At the weekend I went in to buy a coffee machine, none in stock (don't carry it), so again paid for something I couldn't take. They called the supplier for me and said it was being prepared but no matter how much I pushed, I couldn't get an estimated delivery time. It's only coming from Chch, they just push the responsibility onto anyone else, make no promises and just keep dodging. I have been shopping with Smiths City since I was young as my father was a loyal customer.
Never again, their customer service is poor I can't be bothered supporting a company that doesn't value it's customers.

Completely refuse to honour warranties or CGA

We brought a Samsung fridge which started making terrible high pitched screeching noise. Smith city palmed us off to Samsung who weren’t any help and we went back and forth between the two for months until Samsung sent a repair person who failed to repair it and couldn’t fix it. Smith city refuse to refund the product and Rob at their PN branch instead suggests “Buy another fridge and dispose of it yourself” completely ignoring the consumer guarantees act - Do not shop here they will not honour any warranties or laws

misleading

Smith's city Timaru were misleading, I purchased a 7-piece dinning suit & asked for a discount which the lady come back and offered a $500 discount, awesome I thought.
Had it delivered but only a 6-piece turned up!
She removed 1x chair as part of discount which I never asked for and why would she do that, when I called, she was very rude blamed it all on me and I had to pay for anther chair, I guess they don't know what 7-piece means

We bought a double recliner couch

We bought a double recliner couch, Sorrento double couch. Product is absolutely lovely, what we expect. Service was great, great communication. We love what we bought.
But we did find there was a lack in product knowledge, even from smiths city AND manufacturers. Brochures did not give adequate product detail, if we did not go to the show room we would not have even considered the lounge we did, even with the product catalog. Lack of detail of the actual product in catalog.
Manufacturer said we could not buy the product without middle console, but the advertising material said we could. When we got the product, it could have easily been purchased without middle console which means the only benefit is profits. Overall happy with the product and service, however feel there was a lack of product knowledge and profits driven.

Poor service

Poor service, after making half a dozen calls over a two week period trying to gain information about a product repair, Smith City did not call me back, was passed around from pillar to post, didn’t action my problem, it was like talking into the ether p.

The local business which does not deserve your support

DO NOT buy in-store! The appliances cost more if you shop in person. Also, once you've paid for your goods (pre-order) Smiths would just ignore you.

0 Stars for service. (No communication after taking your money).

Recommendations: Buy your appliances and furniture from a reputable store. Smiths City is definitely NOT worthy of our support.
At the time of this review, I have NOT received my washing machine which I purchased 5 weeks ago.

Awesome experience

I can’t recommend Smiths City Colombo St in Christchurch highly enough. We’ve been looking for a couch for months with no luck. Someone mentioned trying Smiths City as they actually had furniture in stock - so we did, and had an awesome experience. Such great customer service - all 3 staff we dealt with were super helpful & friendly but not pushy. And then super quick to do all the “paperwork” of the sale. We mucked them around a bit with changing our mind on a couch, but they were amazing to deal with and totally accommodating. Really super impressed with the customer service from Akila and team (I’m sorry I don’t remember the names of the other guys). The delivery guys were also super respectful and professional. And a massive bonus that they have furniture in stock, where so many other places had waits of up to 7 months! The couch was delivered a couple of days after we ordered it - amazing in this current environment where everything is delayed. We had not been to Smiths City for years, but will definitely be back again soon. Thanks team!

Amazing customer experience from Jade…

Amazing customer experience from Jade at Smith City. I had a package go missing (courier tracked it to my house but didn’t follow delivery instructions and couldn’t seem to confirm that it was actually delivered where instructed). Smith city took on the battle with the courier instead for me, chasing them up and in the meantime sending me a replacement item while they figured out what had gone wrong from the courier. I love that they took ownership of the issue and sorted it quickly for me. This is very rare, normally if something isn’t right I find I have to chase and chase. Not a problem with smiths city though! Thanks.

Bad staff with attitude

We live in Auckland and we’re calling Smiths city about a particular product and the guy who talked to us was very rude from the start, my dad was on the call and he says “hello” and he straight away after he introduced himself he says “what do you want” with attitude, but it would get worse my dad asked a question and was quiet while the guy was talking and my dad didn’t understand quite what he was saying so asked him to repeat but he shouted “listen I am telling you just listen” and so my dad was upset and just said “oh it’s ok thank you goodbye” like what the heck is that attitude for aren’t they meant to help with any problems and issues like c’mon smiths city step it up we will not be shopping from them anytime soon

Been a customer of Smith City for years…

Been a customer of Smith City for years went to Timaru store for a 32" TV had only demo model in stock I said I would take it if there was a small discount but not not even $10. Your loss went to Noel Lemming they price matched a new one with Flybuys. Manager seemed a bit arrogant at Smith City.

After 42 year's deal with smiths city I have decided to close my accounts due to bad company decisions having the finance side run the company and advised any body to to be careful as it is not the company it use to be if the new own or person's running the company doesn't like this comment give me a call?

Can I give zero stars

Can I give zero stars? Dunedin Meridian mall store - bought a bed and told AFTER they took my money plus delivery fee .. that they didn’t have it in stock! Told would take no more than 10 days to come from Christchurch. 10 days later no contact at all. 1 hour on hold to customer service- dunedin store did not pick up. Sent email from website . Callback on Saturday morning. It has apparent arrived but they can’t deliver to my home cause the delivery guy is booked out . I live 1.3 km from the store an actual 5 minute drive. Do not deal with this store
