Worst banking experience till now in…
Worst banking experience till now in Melbourne, Australia.
I have been trying open a bank account which is a relatively simple process to do elsewhere. They sent me details of accessing like so -
Internet Banking
• Navigate to the homepage
• Click on the ‘Log on’ button to sign into your Internet Banking
• Beneath the ‘My applications’ heading, click on the ‘Application in progress’ tile
Guess what? There’s no My applications heading anywhere and I can’t login or register again. Nor have they provided any security access number.
When I try calling any of these numbers - 1300555203, 1300138179, 133330
neither their accounts opening nor internet banking customer service people could help. I wasted 1 and a half hours just to do this and now they’re saying “go to branch, that’s the only way” … ridiculous! Not opening a bank account with them anymore.
St George Bank have stolen money out of…
St George Bank have stolen money out of my daughters account from start of this year and calling it "withholding tax" I called to complain before the end of June they said to provide her tax file number before the end of June and it would be refunded. I noticed has not happened so called again 24.7.24 at 7.20pm and they said they are not refunding it now because I did not call back to advise the tax file number is now in their system? I was not advised to call them back. But yet they are saying because I didn't call back they will not refund it. I already pay tax on my wage and using my wage put the money in my daughters incentive account so she could have savings. This is pathetic customer service and the bank has robbed my young daughter of her savings and it should not be called incentive..
Absolutely the worst bank to ever use…
Absolutely the worst bank to ever use including commonwealth bank westpac is best so many problems with St George bank
I had the misfortune of dealing with…
I had the misfortune of dealing with the offshore call centre which was a horrific experience.
I provided feedback to St George on this and have closed my account and taken my banking business to a bank that has call centre staff here in Australia.
I won’t be ever returning to St George.
Great customer service experience
Great customer service experience. The lady who served me was very supportive.
Rubbish support/travel services
I have been banking with St George since I was a child.
As an adult, once I stated travelling, I have had repeated issues with them mismanaging my funds and/or unable to process the most basic of transactions. This has left me stranded, without access to my own money on multiple occasions.
I have repeatedly brought these issues up with their support team and absolutely nothing has changed nor have I been offered any compensation for the completely unnecessary stress and hassle having to deal with the customer service department repeatedly and at length.
The 'travel' services offered are particularly clumsy and hard to use. Most recently I tried to transfer myself money from one account to the other and my funds were lost in transit on an emergency situation and still George was unable or unwilling to reimburse me or rectify the situation.
The lack of accountability between departments is frankly shocking. I have more trust in the car to manage my money than one of Australia's largest financial institutions. A worrying prospect to say the least!
DO NOT BANK WITH THIS ORGANISATION IF YOU CAN POSSIBLY AVOID IT!
There systems are antiquated and there support is rubbish. Avoid like the plague!
I have a feeling that the bank is not…
I have a feeling that the bank is not treating their employees properly. Otherwise they would have shown some interest in bringing new customers on board.
I had to struggle a lot to place my credit card application. I was made to call 5 different customer care numbers and waiting 1hr+ on all of them.
After all the struggle, they just decided to decline my application despite having a very clean 10 year credit history with no defaults and stable job with good enough income.
I was trying to move from my existing credit card to new with the intent of cancelling my old credit card gradually. Looks like St George is absolutely not keen on getting a good customer. That's fine, I will stay with bank that values me more.
Absolutely atrocious service from St…
Absolutely atrocious service from St George Bank. I’ve been bounced around from department to department for over an hour, with zero accountability and a constant stream of “there’s nothing I can do” responses. My funds are blocked, they refuse to update my contact details, and I’m stuck overseas with no access to my money. Their grand solution? “Go to a branch.” Really? That’s your big idea for someone NOT IN THE COUNTRY?
The level of bureaucracy is absurd. Nobody takes ownership, wait times are ridiculous, and customer support feels more like customer deflection. St George, if you’re trying to lose customers, you’re doing an excellent job.
Major drop in credit rating after loan transfer from St George to Resimac
My car loan was transferred from St.George to Resimac, but I received no notification or explanation beforehand. Shortly after, I noticed my credit score had plummeted — from 820 to below 600. I’ve had no missed payments and no defaults; the only change was the original St George loan being marked as closed.
This has had a huge impact on my financial plans. If your loan has been transferred recently, I strongly recommend checking your credit report and taking proactive steps to protect your score.
Security options need improving
How about adding better security options to online banking by adding phone verification option when logging onto online banking account. I can't believe a large bank as St. George doesn't offer this to protect their customers.
If there was only a zero rating...
If there was a 0, I would have given it. We got in because they offered loans for SMSF's - and have been regretting it since. In the end, we have had to re-purchase properties from SMSF to save ourselves. Even after that, getting service from St George is simply impossible. We have been living overseas for the last couple of years and 6 months ago we lost access to our account - due to St George's data breach. We called 4 times - twice we got disconnected after nearly 2 hours on hold, once we run out of credit after an hour and a half and the last time we simply hung up after 2.5 hours on hold. Due to time difference we had to wake up at 4am to be able to fit within AEST work hours. 2 weeks ago we were contacted (by email) to verify our company's details. I used this opportunity to exhange email with a live person, who offered to make a scheduled call to discuss our experience. I responded straight away and offered time slots - that was more than a week ago with no further correspondence from the person who initially contacted me (Andrew Alabaster – if that is his actual name and not a bot).
So, if you can, stay away and select a different Australian bank.
Credit card application without result
I've applied for a credit card (Application Reference Number CC1713434407), provided all the information required and the bank keeps sending me email saying I must provide more information. When I call the bank or visit a branch they inform me I have provided everything and they need to review my application. It's been almost 3 weeks to approve my credit card and they advertise they approve/not approve in 3-4 business days. I need an answer from the bank on my application asap.
Currently living overseas but won't let…
Currently living overseas but won't let me add my overseas number, only accept Australian mobiles, won't let me add my email either?? So every time I need to verify my identity I need to call their customer service team. Incredibly outdated and unreasonable system.
They actually mislead and outright lie that there is a 24/7 Intl customer service team when there also isn't.
Anywhere from 30-60 mins waiting to get through... and often handballed between terrible customer service teams (eg one time I could hear a party in the background?). Such a simple fix too if I could just verify with my new mobile number or my email.
Will be changing banks as soon as I'm back in Australia.
Do not bank with St George if you live overseas or travel overseas a lot, even if temporarily.
Weak Bank Security - Client data issues
Do not recommend the bank/credit card or any service. Fraud team does not exist, they pass all the problems to Westpack which when transferred they can not resolve it. Wasted more than 10 hours on calls. They do not monitor the frauds as they advertise in their website.
So,with the Commonwealth Bank taking…
So,with the Commonwealth Bank taking all my Refunds,I joined St George. All good for a while. Then a Woolies shop $251 dollar refund.$200 came in. Went to bank.Where is $51. After much snowblowing, head banker agreed he couldn't explain it Where's my money? He said " there is no one in this bank who can help you". Wow. Money gone Now with most Refunds a good portion of my refund is missing. So not taking it all like Commonwealth, just some of it. And noone in the bank can help. It's out and out theft. They just take it.......Eg...this morning a $27.plus cents Refund came in at $14. plus cents.....And another scam...don't leave money in there ..transfer it or get cash.....Eg..money in for my medicine Dr.. app...plus my cats Vet fee....disappears....on phone for days,no sense. .oh,looks, here it is back 10 days later.....my cats in pain,I'm in pain...Thanks.....Only now this money comes back in pieces...and there's always $10 - 15 or so that never comes back.....God as I write this I feel I'm talking about a Criminal gang...Yep,these 2 banks,Commonwealth and St George building society once owned by Australia sold to criminals... .scamming millions making Billions at the expense of pensioners who are struggling.... ..when people get time in their busy lives to change to ,well,a bank you can trust somewhat.. .these commercial banks will be left with the lazy and the mentally ill.. . and they'll run them into the ground...but I won't be there Post script...been researching Banks...they're all doing it.Only worse. Closing people's accounts and taking it all like the Wild West.....Get out cash while you can bury it in the garden.........George Orwell 1984 was a fairytale compared to what's coming...
RICIDULOUS bank
RICIDULOUS bank. Called the identification team and the staff member seemed to be drunk or hungover in the bathroom by the sounds in the background. Didn't ask for any details before saying they couldn't help. Phone staff have no idea what is going on. App chat staff are more helpful, but only to a degree.
Had fraud on my card a month ago
Had fraud on my card a month ago - still cant resolve it they closed by dispute had to re do it. Every time I call waiting times are so so long you just give up.
then they pass you around from dept to dept and still no resolution. Today I has on the phone on 2 occasions and none could help becuase of the waiting times and the last call was on the phone for 1hr 10 mins and then got transfered to a call centre in Phillipines to be told they cant verify me and help with my fraud dispute. Absolute joke of customer service.
Have no choice but report it to the AFCA

Randomly diverts money usually when you are transferring large amounts (i.e its critical). Small amounts go through instantly start moving thousands then magically they divert them to their accounts and only give it back a week later when you have been on the phone for days to them. I assume an interest scam.
Off to Commonwealth Bank. St George / Westpac should be recognized as an organized crime gang.
Is St George shutting down?!
St George are nothing like they used to be. I've been with them for 39 years and used to recommend them. Now I can't wait to leave them and yell it from the rooftops to stay away from their despicable "services".
Now it's almost impossible to talk to anyone on the phone, when you finally can after at least 30 minutes waiting you are transferred to a specialist which takes another 20 minutes to talk to.
They have now restricted access to my account after thinking I was being scammed. They affirmed that it was myself and was in no way being coerced to make payments and had full understanding of my transactions and decided to put a hold on my account . After asking why they said they can do that if they want to. This excuse for a bank has cost me over $150k in potential (proveable) lost revenue and I am now recieving legal advice
Check out the product review site on St George! 90% are complaints and most coming in the recent months. One would think by their lack of service they are going to close their bank down as they obviously don't care about keeping customers anymore
