Evaluating 29 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers report consistently negative experiences with customer service, citing issues such as blocked funds, difficulties updating contact details, and being stranded overseas without access to their money. Reviewers frequently mention excessive bureaucracy, long wait times, and staff who are perceived as unhelpful and unable to take ownership of issues, often bouncing customers between departments. DO NOT USE THIS BANK!

DO NOT USE THIS BANK!! They have frozen my newly opened account saying its due to fraudulent activity. The only deposit has been my centrelink payment which I'm unable to access. I live on an island, two hours from the nearest branch and without access to my money I have no way of getting there therefore i provided more than 200 pts of identification via email. Thankyou for ruining my children's Christmas . You are thieves, stop trying to keep someone's government benefit payment. Disgraceful financial instution, should be shut down!

Worst bank ever

Worst bank ever! Do Not deal with this bank - 🏃 Fast
Applied for Credit card. Got approved
Was supposed to have balance transferred , but they made an error and I had to resubmit all again! I did NOTHING wrong yet I can go chase them and call back to there call centre going round and round in circles!
Honestly not worth the hassle! Cancelled the card before it even arrived as if they can’t even do their own job.. They make the customer do all their work for them it’s so outrageous!
Plenty of other companies happy for the business. Going elsewhere

1 star is too much

1 star is too much. I will close all my accounts with them after Christmas.
They discriminated against a person suffering from PTSD and autism and refused to help either by accepting an ID online or granting an extension to go after Christmas because this person cannot go now due to shopping chaos and sensory overload and all they had to say was that they cannot solve her problem. It was NOT an urgent matter in any way, not a problem or anything, just a routine thing, so they could have waited until after Christmas, but they wanted to put this person in danger of a meltdown in the Christmas chaos.
They have been reported.
They also hardly have any branches left, which does not make me trust them with my money any more, that's also a reason why I will change bank next year. Where I live they merged with another bank and that branch for two banks is the smallest space I have ever seen for a bank.
Not trustworthy!!!! Not a strong bank and uneducated people who don't know what a medical condition is. The person who handles the complaints doesn't seem to understand basic English. Possibly AI and not a human? They are only interested in money.

ITS TIME WE LEAVE THE BIG BANKS..

ITS TIME WE LEAVE THE BIG BANKS..
Never bank with St George/Westpac
Credit card fraud of a friend took $7000. They proceeded (when they actually answered) the phone) to blame her and her son… would have thought being such a big spend and a client that has been with them for 30+ years alarm bells would have sounded and they would have contacted client.. but NOOOO.. proceeded to blame them, and advised to go get police report. Not even put this payment on hold while investigating, which one of the phone calls the staff had said this had happened/: another phone call advised they were being refunded no problem, just go to bank and change passwords.. nope still nothing.. Disgusting
No help whatsoever, even the branch team got the every day message of “we are experiencing an unusually long wait time”.🙄. isn’t this a winning line we hear everyday now! . Disgusting service.. all they care about is profit. WILL NEVER bank with them and advise everyone to steer clear. .

Is this place run by bots???

Tried to open an account with them, and for some reason my details can't get me logged into internet banking despite getting email confirmation that I'm setup for internet banking. When I try to call them, the automated system tells me to login to the app to reset which i don't have access to or they tell me to message the bot in the app which again I don't have access to. There's absolutely no way to reach a real person to fix access issues with your account - which if the application process and getting the account signed up is such a nightmare, can't imagine what a headache it'll be actually banking with them. The only way to reach someone is to submit a complaint, to which they then suspend your account and make you go into a branch (from reading other people's reviews that's a nightmare process in itself). So many better banks out there - go Macquarie and never look back!!!

St George in the DARK AGES

Went to the bank. Asked to provide ID - got it!
Showed digital ID on my phone which is LEGAL... REJECTED because you need a plastic drivers license.

Let's move to the digital age like everyone else , please St George...

Their scam reporting centre is woefully understaffed

I have been with St George for many years but since being taken over by Westpac then profits obviously now come before customer service.
I called to report that my bank account had been hacked. I waited for over an hour only to be eventually told that the delay time was impossible and they would call me back the next day. For heavens sake, this is an urgent, worrying matter
To make it worse, they never called me back and 15 hours later I had to call them back. Not sure what to say...

After paying off a personal loan they kept charging

After paying off a personal loan. St George Bank kept charging an account keeping fee for months with zero redraw. I consider this stealing. The bank told me to get lost when I complained. So I did and now I have Ing account. Don't do business with this bank. They are evil.

I've been waiting on the phone now to the fraud "hotline" for 1 hour and 40 minutes to get two payments released that St George thought were fraudulent. Still no response, just ongoing apologies and indicating wait times could be over 15mins .,.... Crazy..

Closure Letter Dilemma

I closed a home loan account and have been on call with St George for hours at a time, just to get a closure letter. There is definitely training issue as they keep transferring me from one section to the other and no one seems to know who would be issuing the letter. I have been hung up after being on call for 1.5 hours as they place you on long holds while trying to suss out who should be helping me.
Second call lasted 50 minutes, only to be told final statements can only be generated on Saturdays. Extremely frustrated. We have been them for 30 years, unsure if it is worth banking with them anymore.

Dreadful.

Dreadful.
The democratic dictatorships have given the banks the ultimate power. St George Bank exploits all of these powers. This bank should be closed now. They have a robot answer the phone, and very soon it hangs up on you. What ever happened to us?

Impossible to move money if move…

Impossible to move money if move overseas. Combined 2 hours on the phone, money still trapped in my account and each time they say it is fixed and that in an hour it will work. Awful technology and customer service just have no idea how it all works. Use CBA instead!

One month and still no replacement card

My card stopped functioning and I logged into online account to order a new card .. It would not let me do this online ??? Had to phone them and waited twenty minutes to get through to a call centre where they appear to think that talking over you is customer service . ( re-train your people ,they are rude ) after jumping through a series of hoops for the demanding bossy phone centre I was able to order a new card..Two weeks later and no card ! So I had to once again go through the same call them up and see where my card was . Second time the girl at the call centre was helpful, But it has now been a month and still no card. I will now be searching for another bank that can actually offer service ( good luck with that one ) The service at this bank is almost non existent. Gone are the days when they were a decent bank. And stop using overseas indian call centres.. They have no idea about Australian needs

St George is managed out of Indian call centres.

I've banked with St George all my life. Unfortunately recent experiences tell me that management don't care that much. Even branch staff have their hands tied when dealing with the hard to get hold of indian call centres that now seem to be the authority for everything.

Completely horrible experience…

Completely horrible experience end-to-end. Signed up for a Balance Transfer Card based on advertised offer of 32 months with no balance transfer fee. The process took about a month to get approved - I would’ve met the income requirement as well as credit rating, but still had to go back and forth with my payslips and bank statements despite the fact I’ve never had any issues with the big banks.

During the whole application process, I would continuously reconfirm with each banker that my application was for the 32 month no BT fee offer, and each time they would reaffirm me. Even after I received my card to activate it, I asked again and was again reassured. But then I was charged a BT fee and when I called them to ask about it they told me I am on a different offer (28 months with 1% BT) because my application had lapsed into their current offer and that there was nothing they can do about it. The banker (Catherine, I believe) said she would refund the fee as goodwill but she never did! So again I contacted their customer service over chat (as they don’t take calls from existing customers), the banker on the chat line denied that the other banker agreed to refund me the BT fee. Completely disgusted by the way my application had been processed and the ignorance of the bankers. I would’ve cancelled my application if I had known how poorly I’d be treated and how I had been misled to believe the product I was signing up for vs what they actually gave me. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL.
