Aberdeen Disaster

When we arrived at Cambridge we were told the driver was unwell and a replacement driver was on the way in about an half an hour, yet their was a driver sorting the hold behind the chap saying this which turned out to be our driver which was suspicious from the start. Driver hardly said a word and certainly not the required safety instructions. Most of the coach passengers were elderly yet when we reached our overnight stop in the rain ,no help was given with the luggage and we helped a few who were struggling. The food at this stop was mediocre. On our onward journey the driver mainly used A roads instead of motorways and it took far longer than it should have. We arrived late and again took our own luggage in the rain and had to go straight into dinner which was a complete chaos with short staffed and waiting for buffet to be replenished. The food all weekwas acceptable but no brilliant when you got it. The hotel itself was on its own with nothing nearby. The excursions were laughable with nothing much to see except for Prison Museum which everyone enjoyed. There was a lift on the almost new coach which was regularly used by one passenger whom the rest of us observed did not need it and was playing the driver who should have seen there were others who needed assistance. On one occasion the driver pulled away while a partially sighted elderly gent hadn' t got to his seat and was still in the gangway. The overnight stop on return journey was a breath of fresh air with excellent food and service. When we got back t Cambridge we were told we would be a long wait for another coach from Scotland to get in with passengers for all the other coaches. The driver of the coach to Diss was a very happy and helpful gentlemen and we got home sooner than expected. i am supprised there are not other reviews from people on the sae trip on here as everybody was saying the same thing. i did a detailed review via a different email site and through this site with a reply to say they would look into it but heard nothing. i see itis in next years brochure but i would recommend you stay clear.

Top of our list for good service and cheerful helpful driver.

Our recent holiday with Sunrise Direct was absolutely great. Our Driver Tony, was very friendly, very efficient and did everything he could possibly have done to make our trip to Bournemouth a good holiday. Our trips out on the coach were very punctual for departures. We were consulted regarding timings and how long (traffic permitting) it would take to arrive at the chosen location. We were given the time for the return journey to the hotel after each outing. Friendly, chatty and made everyone feel welcome. A pleasure to have Tony as our driver and tour operative. We would hope to be on our next break and have him as our driver. Looked very smart and was easy to chat with. We were given enough time to have a wander around to shops and different parts of the Island. Just like to say Thanks Tony👍 hope to see you next time

Transfer arrangements

The only negative were the transfer arrangements to the Cambridge interchange where passengers and their cases moved on to different coaches. There were four transfer coaches meeting up there on our holiday which left in convoy. Both journeys there were more than one hour delay caused by the late arrival of one or more of the coaches and involved a lot of hanging around. Journey home from Blackpool to Norwich about 10.5 hours with comfort breaks. Drive time 5 hours 5 minutes.

What a disappointing trip

What a disappointing trip. Where do I start? Firstly we were due to be collected from home at 2.15 am on Sunday 21 September. The taxi driver was ringing our doorbell at 1.45am. Fortunately we were ready but when my husband told him he was early, he said he was told 1.50 am. He dropped us at John Lewis in Norwich at 2.20 and the bus wasn’t there so I asked if we could waiti in the taxi until the bus arrived. He said no and put us in the doorway of the shop and disappeared. The bus arrived 10 minutes later and I told the driver(Phil) who got on the phone to Mark to tell him of our complaint. After collecting passengers in Norwich and Newmarket we head to Thurrock services where we changed drivers. Ady our new driver was very good but he hadn’t done this trip before and we spent quite a long time waiting for him and Phil to sort out paperwork. When we arrive at the boat we were greeted and shown to our cabin. The ship was lovely and the food was outstanding. However there was no forward planning for any of our excursions and we didn’t receive any itinerary details until the Tuesday morning. As Ady hadn’t done this area before we needed a member of the ships entertainment staff to accompany us. She took us to a central point where we had to meet up again then left us. There was no information about the places we visited apart from the map. Due to this being breakfast lunch and dinner we were vey restricted to the time we had in each town we visited as we had to be back especially for lunchtimes plus we were also restricted by sailing times. I am aware this was the first time you have done this cruise but I felt is was very poorly organised.My other observation was that the coach used was very cramped between the seats ie no leg room. This was particularly noticeable on the return journey whick took 16 and a half hours then our taxi was late to collect us to take us home so we travelled for17 hours from leaving the ship to getting home. Very disappointed with this tour

TARTAN TAPESTRY ..Well where do I start...we got picked…

Well where do I start...we got picked up at Diss and headed to Cambridge to get main coach unfortunately the driver decided he was to ill to continue so had to wait for a replacement driver, the poor guy had never done this tour before and didn't have any clothes only what he was wearing.
Arrived at hotel it was absolutely chucking it down with rain..no one to help with luggage there were 90% elderly on the bus so my husband and I helped them,one poor man fell up the stairs thankfully didn't hurt himself..Hotel looked grand from the front but the part where rooms were was depressing..all ashtrays were over flowing as you come into reception, in fact they all were throughout and stayed that way for majority of our stay...The rooms were OK although I think we had the creakiest bed ever. THERE WAS NO ROOM SERVICE AT ALL..we helped ourselves to fresh towels and toilet paper, luckily we found a store cupboard that wasn't padlocked!!
Cooked Breakfast wasn't very hot this was the same for evening meals.
1st trip out ..Glasgow shopping for 5 hrs! :(
Trip to isle of Arran...mess up with ferries, was ment to be a trip around island but driver decided to cut across as he didn't like the small roads ..didn't stop anywhere no view points no stopping at the museums we passed ..just a quick drive then back on ferry, we even caught the earlier one.!
Trip to isle of Bute...got the ferry no problem, husband and I decided we wouldn't go with the others around the island just as well as it was half day closing so we managed to visit a cpl shops before they shut unlike the rest on their return ..
One day we decided not to go on the day tour but got a taxi into Prestwick which was lovely SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN HOLIDAY.
Speaking to a cpl from coach who went to this hotel Adamton Manor Hotel saying how lovely the food was ..well im not sure what happened in a year but wasn't good ..there was burgers on one night and nxt night chilli which was the leftover burgers from night before..my husband had it and there were big bits still in it ..the sausages left from Breakfast was used in this kinda stew we had..the Apple Crumble was so gloupy no-one could get it off the spoon the custard was runny and tasteless...there was rice pudding one night..it mustve been decent because it was gone so quick most didn't get any.
The fruit platter consisted of few bits of melon every night along with the same
tiniest pieces of carrot cake and brownies.The staff were reaching over clearing plates while we were still eating..Rude!!
All in all the food was ÐREADFUL!!
For me the highlight was Gretna Green on way home ..was not on itinerary but was lovely unfortunately we didn't have long there which was a shame.
This was our first coach holiday and we were told by the others not to let it put us off..they agreed it was the worst they'd been on and they go every yr.
Well we will see, MAYB we will try one more.

Torquay experience

Had a great experience on the Torquay trip. The booking was made an easy process. Pick up point by Nick our coach driver who was very friendly &helpful.
The hotel was dated but clean with friendly staff. Food was delicious & high standard. Entertainment in the evenings was excellent & the excursions were enjoyable was great to see the surrounding area of the West Country. A very enjoyable experience & would recommend.

Ironbridge Gorge & Severn Valley

The holiday was lovely. The Hotel in Keresley was a delight. Clean, food was good, drinks very reasonably priced. The places we went were very nice, some I have been before, but the extras Warwick & Coventry, and the Severn Valley Railway was a lovely experience. Stratford upon Avon, as a Warwickshire lass, was an eye-opener, and most enjoyable. I have been to Ironbridge & Blists Hill, four times now and never tire of them. Lastly our coach driver ( Mike, brought in from Sleafordian Travel)was laid back and made the whole holiday a relaxed affair.

Included Sightseeing and Entrance Fees.
I was picked up from the door, and then taken on a longish trip to collect other passengers, but this was okay and was expected.
I was pleasantly surprised by the size of our room in a lovely hotel, The Royal Court. Breakfast was a bit haphazard, due to staff shortages but dinner was fine.
The trips out included the entrance fee to the Blist Hill museum and an hour's steam train ride, and stops in Warwick, Ironbridge Gorge, Bridgnorth,
Stratford upon Avon, and Coventry.
All in all, our first trip but really good value for money.

Lovley Break

Feeling let down

We were booked for 30th June staying at Bolton, which included trips on the Settle-Carlisle railway, a canal boat trip at Skipton and another heritage train trip.
Firstly, we were an hour and forty minutes late being picked up, that was because of " known delays" on the Orwell Bridge. Once we were aboard we realised that there was no air conditioning and the temperature was about 35 degrees on there. We thought at least once we got to Cambridge Services we would be on another coach. Wrong ! It was 30 degrees at Cambridge Services and it felt decidedly cool !

We complained to the co-ordinator about it, now would you have thought the driver would have phoned that one in, as he had`nt. Incidentally from the time we were picked up at Stowmarket the driver never spoke a word. A lot of the passengers had been on a lot longer than us.
Anyway they tried to get another coach but were unable or at least that was what we were last told and that the coach would be replaced at Bolton. We politely said that we would not re-board and would get a taxi home. I have complained and asked for a refund which they have refused as the tour went ahead and that they did get a 19 seat bus for some passengers to Blyth Services, where a replacement was put on. They never even tried to phone me at Cambridge Services, we were there for quite some time.
They have been very reluctant to reply to my emails now. I had asked for a refund and then later asked for my complaint to be raised with a senior management and it was supposedly passed on. This being because I was refused a refund. I never heard a thing. I have given it time before I have written this review. We were never even offered another date, or a voucher to use in the future.
The attitude is that it was our fault for not continuing with the journey as the tour did go ahead. Travelling on the hottest day of the year in coach at 35 degrees is not my idea of fun. In fact we had personal fans with us but they were of no use because of the excessive heat.
As there are a lot of good reviews for Sunrise Direct perhaps we were just unlucky on what was a testing day.
