Bought an approved-used BMW 340i from…
Bought an approved-used BMW 340i from Synter Newport and had it delivered to Carlisle. That delivery service is the only part of the experience that deserves more than one star, which is why I’m giving two stars overall.
On first inspection, the car looked fairly clean, but there were obvious issues that hadn’t been disclosed. There were four chips on the bonnet down to bare metal, paint peeling on the front splitter, and a large stone chip on the driver’s side mirror. None of this was mentioned when I bought the car.
The problems became more serious as soon as I drove home. The car pulled hard to the left and anything over 60mph caused heavy shaking, bad enough that the passenger seat was visibly rocking. I was told to take the car to my local BMW dealership, which I did. They confirmed it needed a full wheel alignment and wheel balancing. I sent Synter Newport the invoice, but I have had no reimbursement or response.
As instructed, I also took the car to an approved BMW bodyshop. They quoted £3.8k to fix the paint damage properly. Synter Newport refused to pay and said it should be a “smart repair” and that they normally only pay £40 per chip. I tried to get a smart repair done, but three repair shops refused the job because the damage was too severe.
To make things worse, it was found that the car had an aftermarket track-rod end fitted and a noticeable dent in the MPPSK exhaust. Neither of these should be present on a BMW Approved Used vehicle, especially one sold at a premium price.
Communication has been non-existent. I have had zero contact from Synter Newport since the start of November and none of the issues have been resolved. For a car sold under the BMW Approved Used scheme, the condition, the lack of disclosure, and the aftersales support have been far below expectations. It has left me seriously questioning the level of care and quality control behind the cars they are selling.
Re: the response to my review they offered me £500 as a "gesture of goodwill" because that makes up for all the problems and the 3.8K worth of bodywork repairs that need to be done, do yourself a favour and don't buy from here

Flawless and fantastic experience
Fantastic experience from start to finish. Alex Salway and I believe his colleague James dealt with me throughout the process of part exchanging my car and explained all options relating to finance perfectly. A commonly convoluted and stressful process was made simple and very quick from these 2. Due to there outstanding service, when my agreement concludes in 4 years. I shall be using these people again. Would rate 20/10 if I could. See you in 4 years.

Sytner BMW Newport Tried to rip me off!
Purchased a car from a Sytner BMW dealer. It was a distance sale as the dealership was a long way from where I live.
Collected the car and found the drivers door wasn't locking with the key fob.
They booked me into Sytner BMW Newport to have it looked at.
Sytner Newport diagnosed the door lock needed replacing and booked a 2nd appointment to do the work (which was completed with no problems).
However, on the first visit they did a health check and reported the rear brake disks were 17.7mm, when the minimum should be 18.4mm
I contacted the supplying dealer who said they were fine in the PDI. I got a copy of the PDI and it said they were 19mm
So I took it to an independent garage who measured them at 19.3mm, therefore I trusted they were ok.
So Sytner BMW Newport had quoted over £600 for work that wasn't required.
You hear of the fast fit centres making up work, but I would've expected more from a main dealer.
BMW Newport new car sales
Excellent sales service no nonsense or hard sell tactics, Martin is the go to man for new car sales. We changed from Sytner Cardiff to Newort because of superior service.

I purchased a used approved BMW…
I purchased a used approved BMW convertible at the end of June 2025. It was a distance sale and the car was delivered to me several days later as agreed. On arrival. I found the wind deflector which is usually stowed behind the rear seats was missing. I contacted Sytner Newport immediately and was told a replacement would be ordered and sent to me. Mid-September no updates had followed and no ETA given. I emailed the sales person I had dealt with who replied saying he would follow it up asap. After that no further communication. I sent two further emails a couple of weeks apart asking for an update and suggesting a different source for the part if it was not available through BMW - no replies. Running out of options I completed a complaints form via their website. Got an immediate auto reply saying I would be contacted within 48 hours to discuss my issue. I haven't been contacted. I now think I will have to escalate it via syntner HQ.
My initial experience with Sytner purchasing the car was excellent, very good comms and I was happy with the car. However, it seems they have fallen into the trap of proving a somewhat less attentive services once the sale is complete. Be warned.
AVOID!
My car was brought in because of a recall. It’s been given back without the bonnet cable so when I took it in for a service a week later at my garage, they had to go in through the vent to open it and see that the cable isn’t there. I called Sytner to get this resolved, the customer service representative had a bad attitude over the phone, stating there’s no reason they would have taken it off - but in the same sentence said they would have opened the bonnet for the health check. So it was obviously there when they had it and they were the last to open it and touch any of the parts. My car was perfectly fine before going in, I’m now left having to complain to the ombudsman. I would never use this place again, and I’d advise others to steer clear too.
Buyer beware
I recently booked my Mini in to Syntner Newport to have the Start/Stop battery replaced and the Air Con refreshed for which I was quoted £399.00. After the work was completed, I was informed that during the vehicle check it was found that all four wheels needed re-aligning as the tracking was out. I was even shown a print-out as evidence. I was quoted around £150 for the work discounted to £125 as I had already had some work done that day. I was very surprised to hear this and asked to see the vehicle. I was told I couldn’t as I wasn’t allowed in the workshop for health and safety reasons. I informed them that in the same month that my car was booked in with Syntner it had had a service, two new front tyres fitted and an MOT (which it passed) all at different garages, and no mention had been made of the tracking being out. The company that serviced my car even gave me a printed condition check report which clearly stated that the wheel alignment was ‘satisfactory’. However, as I trusted Syntner I initially agreed to have the ‘problem’ rectified and was offered a taxi home whilst the work was carried out. I then changed my mind and decided to have the wheels checked independently. I told a member of the service team of my decision but was told the car was already on the lift. I then became suspicious and raised my concerns that all was not right and instructed that the work be halted. After some 30 minutes I was informed that the wheels didn’t seem to be as bad as first thought and my original invoice was reduced by £150 “to help with the cost of the independent check”. This, to me confirmed my suspicion that the garage was trying to ‘add value’ to the work I had commissioned by falsely charging for work which wasn’t necessary. I took my car to Syntner as I trusted that they would be fair and honest. I have lost what trust I had in Syntner and will have to find an alternative dealership to look after my Mini.
