About The Kitsch Hen

Our business began with one simple mission – to spread kindness and make people smile with our letterbox biscuit gifts.
From our bakery in Rutland we make delicious vanilla biscuits and hand stamp each with a special message before gift wrapping them and sending them through the post to brighten someones day.
The Kitsch Hen was set up in 2015 as a way for me to find focus and a sense of purpose while we were embarking on our second cycle of IVF treatment for infertility. Although we decided to gently let go of our dream of having a family in 2019, The Kitsch Hen has become an opportunity for me to nurture in a different way and to find another route to joy and purpose in my life.

I have used the kitch hen on many occasions now. For new babies birthdays and just to cheer up someone who needs it. I love how you can customise them , not only do the biscuits look beautiful they taste incredible too !!! It’s my go to now for gifts for any occasion

Gorgeous and Delicious
Ordered the Back to School biscuits for my kids and they LOVED opening them on the first day back at school! My son was starting secondary, and my daughter was going into Year 2, but the messages on the biscuits spoke to both of them, and they were delicious. Beautifully packaged, and a gorgeous handwritten note too. Highly recommend.

Read the ingredients, tastes like cardboard
I had a Kitchen Hen biscuit with my flowers & thought how lovely it looked. On my first bite, the biscuit was so hard and totally tasteless. I could not taste vanilla or anything delicious at all, it was like eating cardboard, I was so disappointed. Before eating, I was thinking of buying some for gifts, however I could not give these biscuits to anyone, I make far better myself. The ingredients list does not inspire either, there are so many ingredients that are not good for you like palm oil, humectant, xantham gum and preservatives. I would suggest anyone wanting to order, just try one as then you won’t waste a lot of money. I feel the ingredients tell you everything……… not for me or hubby.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We’re really sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your biscuit, especially as you’d initially been thinking of buying some as gifts.
We were disappointed to read your comments about the ingredients though, as we’re actually incredibly particular about what goes into our biscuits. We make them by hand in our Rutland bakery using British butter, British flour and sugar, free-range eggs and organic, Fairtrade vanilla.
Some additional ingredients and E-numbers do appear on the label because of the fondant and decorative elements we use, and these are present minute quantities, but by law we are required to include the details on our packaging.
As for the taste and texture, they certainly shouldn’t taste like cardboard! Our biscuits are designed to be a crisp, traditional biscuit rather than a soft cookie, but they should still have a lovely buttery vanilla flavour. We’re genuinely sorry that the one you received didn’t live up to that.
