As an enthusiastic home chef with a general love of sharp stuff, I had a hankering for a Santoku.

Did a lot of research, particularly into which steel and scoured lots of websites including possibly buying direct from Japan.

Settled on two knives, and found both of them were actually available from Chris at Sharp Chef.

Popped an email over to him with my research findings and thoughts on the two knives I fancied, but also asked him for his own recommendation based on my thinking.

He gave me some great insights and suggested an alternative knife, which I went with.

Ordered Friday, arrived Saturday, and wow, what a work of art. Hand forged Santoku by Shiro Kamo. Brilliant. Wish I could put a pic on!

Anyway, highly recommend Chris at Sharp Chef. Superb!

I bought a knife from the Sharp chef for a friend's birthday. I was so impressed with it that I bought an further knives, one for another friend and one for me. All three knives arrived the day after I ordered them. The knives are a work of art and the information given on the Sharp Chef website about the blacksmiths, steel types etc. is very helpful. An excellent company with excellent customer service, selling excellent products. I will definitely be buying more knives from Sharp Chef in the future.

I have ordered two items so far. A Hasegawa cutting board and a Takamura knife. Both products arrived very fast and exactly as described, and communication was excellent. I had a few questions, and Chris replied very quickly with great advice and no pressure to buy. Will definitely use them again!

The knife looks fantastic and cuts well. It has a great weight and beautiful handle.
The blacksmith’s finish is a little more rough to the feel than expected, when compared to other knives, but I guess it’s down to the individual how they leave their product finished. It has no bearing on the overall look and experience. This is a quality knife and as a result of the markdown is a bargain for such a quality knife.

Rapid delivery, slight dent in the box but understandable given it was posted, the knife itself is perfect and exactly as described. Would recommend this shop and use it again!

I found the blade edge near the heel has many scratches along the edge. The scratches can be seen from both sides of the blade, but are very short in length. The knife is notably reluctant to cut newspaper in that area. I began the process of normal sharpening, and ran into hollow spots on the blade which will take a long time to remove while maintaining the shape. I do not feel this workmanship is "normal" for a knife of this price. I will repeat that the original issue with the scratches were caused by the hollow spot at the edge. This is very clearly a manufacturing matter, and there is no way for a normal customer to discover it until it's put on a stone. I am an experienced sharpener, but this is becoming difficult, and there is no excuse for finding this in a new knife.

Excellent quality knifes and amazing communication. Definitely a shop you should trust. I will certainly be buying again.
