Renault at Toomey

Renault at Toomey, Basildon. After calling Joe and telling him what I was looking for, he found an amazing deal. Nothing is too much trouble, Joe is brilliant, concise and goes above and beyond for his customers. I highly recommend Joe and Renault at Basildon. We will be recommending Joe to all friends and family.

I purchased a car from a lovely…

I purchased a car from a lovely salesman called Chris, who has been great BUT we rejected the car due to being faulty and since then, the after sales service has been abysmal. I no longer have my previous 72 plate mokka which I parted with alongside £2000 to buy a 24 plate grandland which we had to reject due to a turbo problem. My concern with this dealership is the management team, a man called Dan apparently, who has called me once throughout this traumatic process, never even apologising, just wondering where I’d got my replacement car from, which then cost me additional money to try and get to work. It is still ongoing, no one replies to my endless emails and we are now more than a month in waiting for a refund of gap insurance. I have now had to lodge a formal complaint to compensate for the poor experience and frustration that we have been through, that is if the manager can be bothered to reply!

I chose this large dealership and paid…

I chose this large dealership and paid more than market value for a 2023 Citroen Relay because I believed buying from an official dealer would be safer and more reliable. I even told the sales representative, Gavin, that similar vans with the same mileage were cheaper on AutoTrader, but I preferred to pay more for peace of mind and to avoid future problems. He told me they would never risk the reputation of their brand or franchises for small profits, so I trusted them.

I purchased the van, but on the very first journey home it started showing electrical faults and it was not driving straight. I reported this by email immediately and even said that if the issues were minor, I could fix them myself. Shortly afterwards, the lights stopped working, gear changes became problematic, and when I inspected the vehicle more closely I found signs of previous repair work and non-factory sealant.

The van had been sold as an approved used, accident-free vehicle. They took the van back to inspect it, and after 28 days told me to collect it. I then discovered they had carried out repairs without my knowledge or consent, despite me requesting rejection under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. They did not clearly explain what repairs had been done or provide proper transparency.

My rejection was initially refused, so I had to escalate the matter to the Financial Ombudsman. During that process I was threatened with storage charges. Only after I requested an independent inspection did they suddenly agree to take the van back.

I was left without a vehicle for months and lost the ability to work and earn money.

In my experience, this company only seemed helpful until they had my money. After that, the aftersales support, communication and transparency were extremely poor. I would strongly advise others to be very cautious before purchasing here.

Reply from Toomey Motor Group - Toomey Chery Basildon

Hello Aydin,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your experience.

Having reviewed your comments, this matter relates to a vehicle purchased through our Van Centre in Basildon rather than this Chery location, and it therefore appears this review may have been directed to the wrong dealership page.

Following your concerns at the time, we carried out a full review of the vehicle and worked with you directly to reach a resolution. As agreed, the vehicle was repurchased by ourselves and a refund was provided. The matter was subsequently concluded.

We appreciate that the situation was frustrating for you and regret any inconvenience caused during the process. As a business, we always aim to investigate customer concerns thoroughly and work towards a fair outcome in line with our obligations and internal procedures.

We wish you all the best for the future.

Kind regards, Toomey Van Centre Basildon.

Service Department - Shay

I have been back and forth to Toomey the last couple of week’s trying to get my car sorted. I have had the pleasure of being assisted by Shay all 3 times. Not only is she friendly and welcoming, Shay is also informative and extremely helpful.
I never had to call and chase up on my vehicle as Shay was always on the ball with keeping me updated with everything that was going on. Massive thanks to Shay for all her help over the last few weeks, quality customer service!

Misleading and Conflicting Vehicle Advertisements

Updated Review:

Mr Richard called to explain that the issue was actually caused by the DVLA registration for this specific car. This is something the dealer (Toomey Motor) cannot control. He was very kind and helpful.

======== =============== =========
This specific vehicle is being advertised with two entirely different engine specifications across different platforms: On Auto Trader: The vehicle is described as a 1.6L Petrol Plug-in Hybrid (Manufacturer Approved, Euro 6 compliant).

On the Toomey Website: The same vehicle is listed as having a 2.0L Diesel engine with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

As a consumer, I find this lack of accuracy. The difference between a Petrol Plug-in Hybrid and a Diesel engine is fundamental to a purchasing decision, affecting everything from fuel economy and tax brackets to ULEZ charges and long-term maintenance.

Reply from Toomey Motor Group - Toomey Chery Basildon

Hello faisal,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and please accept our apologies for the confusion caused. For clarity, the matter raised relates to Peugeot Basildon, although the review currently appears under Chery Basildon.

Following investigation by our management team, we can confirm this vehicle was originally registered incorrectly through the Motability system. Although the vehicle is in fact a Plug-in Hybrid, it was incorrectly pulling through as a 2.0 Diesel on some advertising platforms due to the original registration data.

Our Manager, Richard, has already attempted to contact you to discuss this further, however unfortunately there was no answer phone option available to leave a message.

We have manually corrected the vehicle details on our systems, including Auto Trader and the website is now displaying the correct Plug-in Hybrid specification. Unfortunately, due to the way vehicle data feeds integrate across platforms, these discrepancies can occasionally occur where historic registration information has been recorded incorrectly.

Thank you for highlighting this issue, and again we apologise for any frustration or inconvenience caused.

Kind regards, Toomey Peugeot Basildon.
