I have 3 charge points in my street 2…
I have 3 charge points in my street 2 of which are not working I’ve reported them broken back in August and they still haven’t been fixed! On this charge I had to drive round for an hour to find one available, just not good enough cars not charging parking in charging stations you need to talk to local council , I am disabled and need available chargers near my home not 2 miles away as your colleague told me that there was one available 🤦🏻♂️
Best chargers for those without off street parking in SW18
When they work, it’s the cheapest and easiest way to charge for those without off street parking.
I’m charging a BMW i4 and only have off street permit parking. I can charge from 10-80% overnight easily (5.30pm-7am) for less than £20.
Competitive rates (£0.37-£0.40/kWh in SW18 depending on payment method), 5kWh speeds - so good for overnight charges, and either QR code web payment or use of roaming app such as Octopus Electroverse, Ubitricity offers the best experience in London and in particular SW18 for those without off street parking.
The only complaints are: not enough chargers. As they are installed in lampposts, there are no reserved EV charging bays, so frequently you will find multiple streets all blocked by other cars.
It would be excellent if either more lampposts are retrofitted with chargers or some bays are reserved.
There are a number of lamppost chargers that always seem broken and have to be repaired after being reported. I have no idea why, but they either say they are occupied when they are not, or the LED status light is off and they appear completely dead. This feeds into the above as Sod’s Law is that the lampposts that are not blocked by ICE vehicles are the ones which are broken!!
Apple Pay on the QR code web app is very good and welcome including Amex payment option.
The main recommendation is increasing the density of chargers as more vehicles switch to EVs and there are no reserved bays. And also maintaining the LOWEST p/kWh rates which is cost PLUS from the wholesale electric rates. It’s not fair that those without off street parking have to pay over the odds to charge from mega expensive public chargers.
The price has jumped double between…
The price has jumped double between 4-7pm which is ridiculous. Fast chargers are priced for a reason so paying the 75p kw makes sense. @ the lamp post I was paying the peak rate @ 40p kw previously and even though it was expensive I managed but now it’s just too silly put the prices back to what it was if it stays like this your better off using a rapid charger
They dont work with BMW i4
Tried 6 different lamppost chargers each multiple times on separate occasions as really wanted it to work.
They failed to charge on every occasion!
Ubitricity telephone support could not give any meaningful advice, only repeat the connection process.
The car is brand new, even had it checked by BMW.
Their conclusion is that the handshake between the car and the lamppost was unsuccessful as the car deemed the lamppost charger incompatible.
Net result = massive waste of time & massive frustration
Submitting this on the slim hope that Ubitricity can provide a useful reply to resolve the issue.
Waste of time!
Literally a waste of time. Toured several in Liverpool today and every single one had none electric vehicles parked in front of them. Would not even try looking in the future.
Never able to get on charge on their…
Never able to get on charge on their lampposts despite having two on my road! Not because others are using it no! Because bays are not marked out for charging so everyone and anyone parks by the lamppost.
Honestly designated charging bays should have been the first thought!
Council are no help either
Pls We need more ubitrcity where I live we don't have
Iam happy to use ubitricity
Good density of lampposts in NW10
Good density of lampposts with charging conveniently located at our destination. QR code on the lamppost makes the process quick and simple. It hardly takes longer than the time to connect the cable. Rates per kwh are reasonable.
Greedy and unreliable
Often not working, and now charges an extra fixed 35c per charge. No thanks.
Incredibly expensive, diabolical call quality and charger would not release my car.
What's bad:
It took me 4 attempts to start the charging process, each time Ubitricity deducting £20 'deposit' from my card. I hope I get the unused deposits back.
The quality of the VOIP telephone calls is at times diabolical, the support person seemingly operating from a very echoey environment (in the first case with a huge amount of background activity and noise presumably from other operators) making them almost impossible to comprehend, especially if there is also noise in the street. Comprehension was further compromised by the first and last operators whose mother tongues were clearly not English which makes understanding what's being said even more difficult when you add street noise, poor quality VOIP and hearing aids (I wear two).
The charge per KwH is usurious at 45p. There is no difference between the peak and off-peak rate. WHY NOT!!
When I came to the car in the morning (having charged all night at supposedly off-peak rates) the session would not end and it took 3/4 of an hour to release my car. As a result I missed a meeting and had to abandon an important call because I spent most of that time on two calls to 'support'. Although promising to escalate to Level 2 support from whom I would get a call, it never happened and I had to call back.
The call quality was again dreadful. I allowed call recording of all calls so the quality can be reviewed by the company.
I told the last operator that I expected to be compensated for being held hostage by the company which would not or could not release my car. In my view that is unlawful imprisonment. Perhaps a lawyer out there would care to comment? I also expect compensation for my wasted time at either end of the process. He said he would instigate a complaint process.
What's good?
The lamppost is outside my home.
Getting through to customer 'service' is fast.
The operators do try to be helpful
Maintenance much?
Would be 5 stars if they actually bothered checking their charging points worked and fixed them promptly. We have had points, which are essentially a glorified plug socket with a SIM card in, broken on our street for months now.
First lamp post charge
This was my first time charging at a lamp post and it was way more straightforward than most public chargers. Best way to charge is overnight close to home. Create a national network of these where our payment details are stored and roll it out.
Good user experience
Now that you can use Apple Pay, the user experience is smooth and intuitive. Peak tariffs are a good incentive for people to manage charge time and balancing costs.
First time we've used a public charging…
First time we've used a public charging point. It was really straightforward, minimal form filling, easy to pay. Very happy.
The only wrinkle: the QR code to get started is a bit small, and difficult to scan.
Slow but convenient street charging 👍
I will never use the lamp post anymore
I will never use the lamp post anymore. It charges very slow and is just a bloody waste of time! I started charging at about 9:45AM at 42% and didn’t attain 100% till 19:10pm!! What a waste of space!
Awful company that doubles prices at…
Awful company that doubles prices at will. Doesn’t engage with customer around price changes and replies with generic messages from robotic customer service.
Give us back all the information
The lamp post chargers are easy to use but recent changes mean that there is no indication how many kws have been drawn into the battery. This is a strange omission given that it was available last week.
Also, as with other providers, there is a nagging feeling that we are being ripped off with the cost of charging EVs.
They increase the price from0.24 to…
They increase the price from0.24 to 0.45 for a very slow lamb post who will use and wait for 12 hours and pay that amount while i can get fully charged for 40minutes and the same price this is rip off
Absolutely rubbish
Absolutely rubbish - why oh why can they not update their system to keep your payment details rather than having to enter the same details every single time then a lot of time it doesn’t work and you have to do it again. Also way to little charging points. Please just update your system at least
