Find An Emergency Vet
Pet Care Advice
Customer Hub
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

My cat suddenly took seriously ill last night. Difficulty breathing, hardly moving, yowling, just lying on the kitchen floor. I rushed her to VetsNow in Stockton on Tees. On the way in the car i phoned ahead and was told the consultation fee was £288. I have now found out that according to my insurance compsny the market rate is no more than £200. The vet on arrival took her out the back and came back within a few minutes and said it was suspected heart failure. I was extremely distressed . In order to put her on oxygen and administer a diuretic I had to pay a deposit of £800! I had no choice. What else could I have done? We left her with them to see if she stabilised enough for X rays etc. She was with the practice for less than 2 hours and then passed away. We were told on leaving the practice that they would process the insurance claim at no charge. I have now found out that they DO charge an admin fee, but I have no idea what that is. This company is not transparent. There is no list of fees anywhere on their website and they dont give you a list in the practice. This company might as well have staff wearing balaclavas and carrying a swagbag as it is robbery. I said also when she died I didn't want her cremated, however yet again I suspect they are charging for this. They give you an estimated cost when you are in a very distressed state, handing over your baby. They know this and take advantage of it. The estimate includes no detail or breakdown of costs at all. After they told me over the phone that she had died they said there was a balance to pay of £180. Again, you are expected to pay this with no knowledge of what any of this money was for. The only cost they tell you upfront is the consultation fee. They must know how much it is per hour to look after your pet, how much each diuretic is etc but they don't tell you. Having looked at my insurance policy I think they are only going to pay me back around a third of the total cost. If you use this company ask for a detailed breakdown of the estimate upfront, ask for a list of charges such as oxygen, injections, ultrasound. I suspect they also charge admin fees for phone calls to you and for each chat. This is expoitation of people at their most vulnerable. It's all smoke and mirrors, no transparency. I don't know how the 2 directors of this company sleep at night. I will be writing to the Royal College of Vetinary Services and my MP about this company, as well as Which? magazine which I am a member of and Rip off Britain.

Please find an alternative, we phoned our regular vets who had shut and we were forwarded to vets now, I spoke to the lady on the phone and advised my concerns and she said this is an immediate emergency and I need to get my dog to the vet straight away, upon arriving at vets now the vet took my dogs temperature then said its best to just keep an eye on him and take him to my regular vet on Monday. They charged me £270 for less than 1 minute of looking at him and just told me to take him to my own vet. Yet the lady on the phone made out it was a massive emergency. Absolutely a conn just to get some money for nothing

My dog was vomiting +++ and really lethargic, from point of phone call to being seen it was 10 minutes (I live close to the clinic). Staff all very friendly and welcoming, greeted me at the door and on leaving were chatty. Consultation in itself was thorough, informative and reassuring. Excellent service

The vat herself was fantastic. but the cost was disgusting. over £300 for a check and some pain killers. taking advantage of people who have no option but to pay.

Got straight in to the vet and my dog was seen straight away due to the issues she was having. Although it cost a lot I am happy my dog left in a better state than when we arrived and now her own vet has diagnosed the reason behind the issues and is on the road to recovery.

I took my cat. His tail was down a d walking funny. We got straight in and the nurse gave him a pain killer and examined him. The actual vet looked at him for less than 5 minutes and charged me £380. These people are praying on people knowing we love our pets. Taking the maximum amount of money from everyone who walks through the door. I suggest you wait till the following day and go to the normal vets if there is a issue. These cash vampires will empty you bank account then say they have no clue what's wrong with your animal.

We only had 15 minutes to wait with our very sick dog. All staff were very friendly and efficient and the vet himself was very caring and explained things carefully, we felt happy to keAve her overnight there as we felt she was in very good hands.

I had to use Middlesbrough branch as an emergency call for my Border Collie. On arrival she was taken away for triage. We were shown into side room and for next half hour, the professionalism, care and compassion shown to both us and my dog was excellent. At each step everything was explained carefully and never at any point felt pressure to do something that wouldn't help our decision. In the end,it was felt that we should put my dog to sleep but, only after careful consideration of all the facts made available to us by the vet. We were given plenty of time to say our goodbyes, both before and after the final act of kindness to our dog.

Vet’s Now Middlesbrough are not our regular vet but we’re used in an emergency situation when our dog was hit by a car. Couldn’t fault the service and care that was provided to both Nellie and myself. Gabriela was particularly thoughtful and caring.

The vet and vet nurse on shift in the early hours of this morning were amazing when we had to rush our dog in. Unfortunately we lost him but they treat us and him with such compassion. I can not thank them more.

Vet now made us feel comfortable and were very good with Oscar. He’s not a massive fan of the vets and they spoke to him and kept reassuring him! They let him see/sniff everything before doing anything.

Good quick service but Tommy came in with urine retention and the vet didn’t check Tommys prostrate which is very easy to do and today found out he probably has advanced prostrate cancer.

I brought my dog who was in great pain and the vet was ready and waiting and very kind. As were the nurses. Mikka was dealt with kindly and promptly
